Fncg's Grow 0.5/1.0 Hempy 2L Perpetual Sea of Green

12/12 Day 9 Report

Back from my trip, last night. Almost everybody did very well.

Except the cuttings. I left the humidity dome off, with the tray right in front of the fan.

Most of them are probably dead. :rip:

I've covered them, and watered them a bit, and we'll see if anybody revives. If not, they get tossed, and it's on to the next batch. I guess that's part of the beauty of a perpetual SOG, any individual loss isn't so devastating.

And now, for a quick update on the main garden.

And after 5 days with no watering, just automatic 12/12 light, 2/7/11

Holy Shit.

I love these things. :circle-of-love:

The tall ones are evening out at ~15", the short ones are catching up quickly, there's no signs of drying out or nute burn anywhere, and we're definitely starting to get some flowering going on.

Wow.

Corey, whatever you're putting in these Blue Planet Nutrients is freakin amazing. Carry on, my friend. :cheer:

And for those who spoke to me about Bushmaster, thank you. I think I'll be avoiding it for now.

Next major evolution is I need to get these girls spread out a bit, two of the trays have 8-9 2l bottle each instead of 6, and it's about to be a problem. This is going to entail building an actual platform instead of stacking blue bins on an old wooden card table.

And in just under two weeks they get their 21-day defoliation.

For somebody who works part-time as a contractor, I sure seem to end up with a lot of hokey jury-rigged solutions to stuff in my grow room. :lot-o-toke:

Hey there F*ckin' Nor Cal guy -

Don't know how I missed your journal 'til now, but would love to follow along and watch those hempies turn into little bud monsters. ;)

I love how quickly grow creep got ahold of you. :)

Good luck the rest of the way - can't wait to see them finish. That Lavender of mine (just Lavender no Trainwreck in it) was a really nice plant, and really vigorous/hardy. Really floral tasting, and the BPN nutes did a nice job of bringing the flavor out. :goodluck: the rest of the way. :)

XLR8. thanks for the kind words and the reps, brother! :thanks:

I know what you mean all the way, bud monsters, grow creep, and everything. This stuff is addictive as hell, the growing that is.

It's been another busy day at the F*cking Nor Cal Guy compound.

The girls were getting incredibly crowded in their 2l bottles stuffed in 9-10 each per blue plastic bin, but I simply didn't have any more room on my girlfriends' card table to put them. Had a job yesterday that finished early, and left me all day to get some construction done. And so, I present you...PICTURES. :cheer:

Here's everybody as of this morning. The tallest plants (actually, they're all pretty even at this point) were stretching up within 8" of the 1KW MH bulb, and although it's on a mover, this is a little close for my comfort. I've already done a bunch of clearing out at this point, the 9x11' grow room is also our storage shed and had gotten to be quite a mess.

IMAG09133.jpg

The plants are, on average, 16-19" tall at this point. They've been under 12/12 light for slightly over two weeks at this point. Hopefully they don't put on too much more height, or I may be in for some more construction work.

IMAG09124.jpg

Cleared out the corner of the room, took a few measurements on my blue bins, and decided that at this stage the grow table is going to be 40" by 67". A little work with the saw and lumber around the property, and we've got a properly sized table frame.

IMAG09141.jpg

Lay down a sheet of 2" thick rigid foam insulation, and we've got our table surface. This Owens Corning stuff is incredibly strong, you can poke a screwdriver through it easily, but I would walk on this table with no hesitation. I could probably just build the entire cabinet out of it and skip the framing entirely, if I was trying to isolate the flower table from the rest of the room. Everybody gets spread out to 6 bottles per bin, and they're not crashing into each other all over the place now.

I'm looking for some information on defoliating...I've heard Day 21 and 45 for trimming, but I feel like I may need to bump that schedule up some. They got between 2-4 weeks to veg after planting, which has led them to absolutely explode under this big MH light. Should I be considering defoliating soon, or now? Many of them also have notable side branches that are showing budsites as well, I hate to cut them off, but I also don't want to end up with a bunch of popcorn.

Talk to me, SOG experts. I'll post some individual plant pics if necessary. :thanks:

It's also clone cutting time again. The Bonsai Moms are quietly sitting under their little fluorescent lights growing out bushy and fat, ready for a haircut. I'll knock that out tomorrow as well as transplanting the last batch of clones into 2l bottles. Fortunately, I think I've got 20-24 survivors from my idiot move of leaving the humidity dome off for five days. We'll see how root systems look when I go to plant them Monday.

Cuttings that I thought were totally dead a week ago:

And hey, just had enough to drink to ask outright...can I get some votes on this thread? I know I mostly subscribe to the ones with 5-star votes, seems to filter out the wheat from the chaff. I've voted for all the good ones I'm subscribed to. You guys are the best.

Fncg, everything looks good. The defoliation at 21 days of 12/12 is timed just AFTER they should finish stretching. You can defoliate any time, but it will slow down growth, so probably best to wait until after the stretch.

On a separate note, 5-stars from me! :goodjob:

BTW, I used a twist-tie to tie in the side branches I didn't want to chop.

So.....if you feel they are almost too big, you may want to defoliate now. Just to limit the last week of stretch. Probably best to experiment and just do some now and some next week, keep notes to see how it impacts the plant. Pick a couple of each strain.

I think I'm defoliating tonight. Just got done with another batch of clones and transplanting, and the big girls are looking really crowded. Need to take a couple measurements from the top of the plants to my bulb, I think there's about 12 inches, and I want to stop them stretching pretty quick here.

Pictures in a minute!

it's past a minute!!!

:peacetwo:

Man...defoliating takes WAY longer than I expected. First timer symptom, I'm sure.

New batch of clones, fresh cut. I took much larger cuttings this time, hoping for 100% success rate and maybe a little faster rooting. Still ended up with 27 of the little buggers.

The survivors from the last batch, transplanted into 2l bottles and under the big light on 12/12 as of tonight.

And an overall shot of most of the garden, now that I've got the 12 oldest and largest plants defoliated. They've been on 12/12 for two weeks today. I'll probably do the other 24 plants tomorrow or Wednesday, they're filling in quickly.

IMAG09391.jpg

And now, I've taken care of all my girls except one...and she's waiting for me in bed. :partyboy:

I feel ya on that!!! my first real harvest!!! my 2 Afgoo's took me 22 hours to defoliate, and then to cut branches down for the trimming!!! I know your pain!!!

what day are you doing this on??? I am coming up to day 42 and I heard that was a good day to do the defoliation??? I never let a plant finish up defoliated... and also, I was thinking of trying my hand at rejuvenation... so is defoliation not recommended???

:peacetwo:

These are on Day 15.

I keep hearing 21 and 45, but these girls had a couple weeks of veg time before I got my flowering area set up, so they've shot up to nearly 20" in that time. I'm trying to shut them down about 24-26" total, so hopefully I times this about right. :Namaste:
