First Time Grow Journal - Outside - Kaya Gold & Freebies

I'm just going to take a moment to make an entry about bug management in this outside grow. My garden, is basically grown organically. When I say my garden in this context, it is mostly vegetables but also my four girls. My girls have faced only minor attacks by random bugs. No infestations of a single type. I've been able to deal with the in the most basic rudimentary way, which is the first defense in an organic garden. I look them over and fight them off personally. A flick of the finger here and there. Shake girls from time to time, gently. My second and third line is a garlic/hot pepper spray, and third neem oil. The girls have not needed those. But I must note that the Sativa I just posted a picture of is amazingly bug resistant. Not a single leaf chomped on. Wish I knew what she was.

Here is what I call KG1. This girl finally started to battle toward flowering a couple days ago. My rookie eye says it is so. Can someone confirm it is starting?

Thank you again UncleCannabis. As I said before I have angels on my shoulders here making sure i do well by those girls. Please drop by from time to time to see how we end up. Thanks. kk

Just because I'm not offering up bad advise doesn't mean that I won't be hanging around. :)

Awesome!! The show has now started!!

We have lift off! :volcano-smiley:

I'm happier, now, and I think the girls will be. I've been covering them in bags and letting them sleep in the garage for more than 2 weeks. We were going to do that until Sept 25 when we have 12/12 outside. But I just couldn't do it tonite. The girls hate being covered by those bags. It smushes down their leaves, and I watch them work all day to get them right. And they transpire a lot which leads to condensation on their leaves. I've seen some discoloration of growth tips from that. I had to listen to my plants. I just can't do what I know they don't like....We'll let nature take its course.

I'm still putting them inside for 12, just not with the bags. It is still darker than outside, and esp. when it is raining it is better. Weather remains decent, though. A little rain the last couple of days, but intermittent sun, in the 70s, and a nice breeze. I removed a few fan leaves from the girls for better air flow and sun. I can tell the difference in one day.

Good call on your part for taking them inside and discontinuing the use of the bags to cover them with.

Keeping them as dry as possible with good air flow will certainly help to prevent bud rot from setting in.
:peace:

Well I knew I would get through this without more challenges. One of the girls is showing a bit of powdery mildew. I carefully removed the affected leaves. So far only about 6. Not a bad infection so far. I'm looking at spraying her (and the others) with a 40/60 milk/water solution. I would appreciate any thoughts. I know what WPM can do to a plant very quickly.

I haven't had that particular issue- (knock on wood). I read someone say once that a sulphur burn is the 'only way' to get rid of it. Never had the need to research that though.

I saw some youtube vid a while back that suggested 1TBS baking soda / 1 gal water sprayed on all leaf surfaces when found in vegetables. Supposedly it raises the Ph by foliar absorption. I don't have the problem either but need a fix recipe if it ever happens here. Jim

Potassium Bicarbonate is relatively cheap and is supposed to work as well as anything that isn't really nasty. I have some, but have not needed to use it ... yet.

Google it and see what you think.

I've been looking at Potassium Bicarbonate, Major. It is supposed to be much better than sodium bicarb. There appears to unanimity favoring its use in veg. Very mixed opinions for using during flower. Many claim it will fry the pistils. And of course, at least here, PM is usually not present until the middle of August. I'm still looking at it. A diluted milk spray is a favorite of many, but I've read that some feel it is best not to used during flower. The allegation is that it promotes bud rot which. The evidence appears to be anecdotal, but that doesn't make it untrue. Good thing is that I caught it early so I think I can control it one way or another.
