Thanks for the compliment VG, a lot of people have helped me out, so I'm just passing on the sound advice I was given.
Before even starting this project, I did a lot of reading & I mean a lot. It appeared to me that most of the problems from other new growers were either coming from the wrong Ph levels, too much watering and way too many nutrients or adding nutrients at the wrong time.
The PH was easy to determine, and the trick to watering was not to water too much or too little. If you over water, it basically drowns the roots. If you under-water, it makes the roots work harder to search for the water, thus the roots extend & get bigger and when they get their water, they use it all up. Also, the root ball of the plant never gets water logged and the natural salt build up in the soil is kept to a minimum, thus basically eliminating the need for unnecessary flushing.
When it came to the nutes, I just held off as long as I could (slowed growth) before a deficiency occurred. Again, I always waited for the plant to signal me (Hey Buddy, It;s time to feed me) and I just introduced the nutrients slowly to see how they reacted.
Another member (PeeJay) told me if you go full blast with nutrients, it's almost like trying to feed a baby a T-Bone Steak, with a baked potato, vegetables and a salad. I don't think any of us would do that, so I guess my reasoning was, why try to even to that to a young plant?
So far it's been working & I am just trying to keep it as simple as possible and not overdue the basics.
