First Grow!

I was thinking to expose them to colder temps the final 2 weeks?

I'm also liking the idea of chopping them and leaving in water in a dark period but don't know how long for as i read different things, any suggestions on this ? Cheers big ears :cheesygrinsmiley:

Yes, drop those temps 3 weeks out, they'll pick up trich production very, very fast. Be brutal the last 2 weeks, kick'em, knock them around, treat them nasty, they'll love you for it! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Read up on that chopping, water and 24 hours darkness. Wasn't convinced. I just did the light deprivation 3 weeks before harvest and the 2 straight water flushes. Walked it down 45 minutes each week.

:Namaste:

3 weeks out it is :cheesygrinsmiley:

I'm lookin forward to the trich's exploding, stevie is getting her frost on too she's behind the other 2 with trichs but i think she's just a late starter ;-) i opened her right out over the last few days and took some of the yellowing leaves off for better air circulation she has 13 big bud sites and a few not so big lol :cheesygrinsmiley:

Yep, use the popcorn for sampling if you can get a big enough popcorn bud. Keep sampling that, don't touch the big bud. If that popcorn comes out pretty good this sampling and the next, I would take it off right after the 1st flush, so the plants concentrate all their efforts on the big bud and cola, plus you have the added pleasure of smoking some good popcorn to help you through the last 3 weeks. 2 weeks flush/1 week dry and partial cure!

Mine are curing now and getting better each day. The longer they cure, the better the smoke & effects.

:Namaste:

I always leave the little stuff on. When I trim I throw all the smaller buds and sugarfan trim in the freezer for butter or extracts. I love me some cannabutter on toast and a cup calming herbal tea before bed :) I suppose if you cut it off early you might get a little more weight in upper buds but I like the things that can be done with the popcorn too much to even consider trimming it off early.

Cheers for the advice PeeJay. I'm think i am going to have to agree,i intend on leaving the pop corn on for this one, apart from one or two samples of coarse, the way i see it nugs are nugs, big or small ha ! :blunt:

I've never made any thing with weed,i mean i have made cakes n stuff with the solid (resin)we used to buy and am seriously considering it :cheesygrinsmiley: it's also dodgy with my 14 yr old about the house don't want him to eat it by mistake !! lol ha ha ha

Yup. I trim all those little frosty leaves off as close as I can. Yields are a funny thing. The amount you get has a lot to do with how you trim, and what you throw in the trim bag. Also, I never leave multiple nugs on a stem, so I never weigh a bunch of useless lumber.

Thats what my plan was i'm going to trim all the bud from the stems,i'm hoping this will shorten the drying time i don't know if it's going to work but i'm still going to do it anyways,i want to know the weight of it wet and dry so i can compare in future grows with the same strains,i have one mazar in now and another mazar seed to pop on my next grow along with 2 blueberry :cheesygrinsmiley: :blunt:

You can weigh wet if you want. Dry yield is typically around 20% of wet weight - sometimes as high as 25% and as low as 15% once you've broken down the colas into nugs. It depends how much stem you've weighed wet, and how dense the nugs are. If your dry yield is more than that then chances are you haven't dried it enough, or you are weighing a bunch of non-smokable stuff like stems, or both. For example I took a decent size sample nug yesterday and it weighed exactly 3 grams. I just dropped it on the scale and it now weighs 1.1 gram. It will end up between .6 and .75 when it's all the way dry.

Yeah VG,

PeeJay is right, there are so many things that you can do with popcorn, but personally, after trimming all of it & I had lots of trimming to do, the next thing I wanted was some more work. I mean you get out of the plant that you put in, why not use it? Think I trimmed for 6 hours. It's just the extra work involved I guess, but after trimming twice wet, drying, sampling and then curing, it just wan't in the cards for me.

The last 3 that came down, I made sure that I didn't have any popcorn, because I snipped it all off 3 weeks ago and got nothing but big bud and big colas. Have 4 good size popcorn wanna be buds that I harvested that are almost dry now from the AK48s.

I was thinking about sampling them tonight & comparing it to the SKNL, but am still baked from my "Wake and Bake" this morning & a nice afternoon "Touch Up"! :tokin:

:Namaste:

There is no need to trim the popcorn. It just has some little leaves attached to it, and those little leaves have trichomes on them. If it has resin on it, you can pull it off with an extraction method - bubble hash, butter, BHO... There is a lot of personal preference when it comes to trimming and drying. Here's how I do it. I cut a branch off right at the main stem and pull off any fan leaves (leaves with a stem.) Then I have something like this:

Once the branches are all stripped of fan leaves, I wash with the three step system and shake off excess moisture and let the branches dry on some paper toweling for a bit. I dry on a screen, so I break things down next. Little buds that aren't worth drying for smoke are tossed right into the trim bowl. I don't trim sugar leaves off them since they are for extraction anyway. Pretty much all of the leaves from the first picture and all the little popcorn nugs are in the bowl. They go right into the freezer.

Last, I separate nugs - breaking down things as far as logically possible and end up with this:

I dry the nugs on a screen. It's quite dry where I live and they dry fast. You don't want them to dry too fast because you want the chlorophyll to degrade. Because of the dry climate I put the nugs into jars before they are dry for a couple of hours a couple of times so they even-out moisture wise. When the stems snap easily, I put them in jars for the last time with a boveda 62% pack to cure.

Hope you don't mind the pictures, VG. As an alternative, you can hang larger hunks of stem with nugs attached to dry and do a final trim of the sugar leaves after drying and then break down the colas into individual nugs before putting them into the jar.

There's lots of ways to go about it...

How long can you freeze popcorn before processing it?

Heck, for quite a while. Six months, no problem. After a year things will probably not be as good, but you could still make butter or hash or tincture. Longer than that I'm not sure - never had any around that long... If you look around the forums you'll find people who save trim up for months and then do large bubble hash runs.

Well, I had a good deal of popcorn. Think I had like 70 grams or something like that. After I trimmed the half decent stuff, I got like 20 grams dried. The big bud has been curing and I'm puffing it now. I was just thinking of filling out a couple of bags for my buddies, give them a couple super buds, some nice regular bud and filling the rest out with some popcorn.

Next time around I'll save the Darkstar popcorn and freeze.

:Namaste:

Shucks, Festus. Ya'll have heaps o' weed in te root cellar. Don't need no trim n'er popcorn to fetch up some fancy weed squeezin's whilst you and Ruth wait out the next harvest. Ya'll can use the good stuff ter squeeze if'n ya want. Them trimmin's do make fer sum serious whoopdie-do. Hang on to 'em frum n'wan.
