First Grow: Organic, CFLs, in 2.4 Sq Ft Box

Ir Shield is really great for reflectivity but temps do tend to be a lil higher.. but ummm dude, doesnt seem like thats botherin your girls at all...

100% agree, keep doing what your doing it looks awesome! wish i was there to smoke it!!!!
i cant wait to see how much your yield is cause im about to grow in a very similar space

Also, on Wednesday I looked at the trichomes under a microscope and they appeared to be about 80:20 clear to cloudy, with no amber. The last couple of days it seems like the hairs are turning orange at a faster rate, tho. So, on Wednesday I gave plain water because I wasn't sure about flushing and all that.

Actually, is it even necessary or beneficial to "flush" when growing in organic soil with organic nutes?

I'll be taking another look at the trichomes later today and I'll report whassup.

ill state first im no expert

but from what i have read with organics (flushing) is rather worthless due to the soil being so full of nutes. a typical soil compound will run dry of this in about 3-4 months due to the plant reeping its bounty, but with organic the nutes can stick around even after a good flushing, tho if its timed right flushing is unnecessary, the nutes are all gone and the plant will use what is left inside of it.
i would say keep to what you have been doing, if the trichomes are milky, then amber is just around the corner. stick to the clean fresh water and let thos buds turn, in the end a nice smooth sweet smoke will result

also you should consider curing techniques, agen from what i have consumed in knowledge, this plays a big part in the end result of your final smoke

Very impressive! I'm amazed you were able to grow two plants in such a confined space. Making me re think if I can stuff two plants within my own confined (20"X20") space. Although judging by the photo's, it looks as if those are 10" pots. Excellent job with the LST as well!

Loved the bud porn of those trich covered buds. How do the trich's look? Close to harvest?

+reps for over coming issues, and producing a beautiful crop!

Hey, Oldskoool. Thanks for stopping by. One of my main goals for this first grow was to see what could happen in a really small space, in this case 13"X26", which is about 2.4 sq ft of grow space. Your 20X20 space is about 2.8 sq ft. So, yes with the proper containers it can be done. My pots are 12" in diameter at the top where they are widest. I think maybe you could reasonably get two 11" diameter pots in there if placed along the diagonal of your square floor space.

Regarding the LST, I've hesitated to use that term because of the "high stress" I put those babies through. I did a lot of fairly severe bending and pulling and stuff early on, but every time I put a bend in one of the branches the plants would really bush out. Worked great I think.

I'm checking the trichs again today. They were about 80/20 clear to cloudy on Wed. I'm open for harvesting advice. Thanks, oldskoool

Those are some amazing plants. Holy cow I can not believe how frosty those ladies are. Great job.....

Hi gangalicious :surf:

I don't think you could have made your grow any better than it is, everything looks well thought out and the small space grow set up is top notch.
Your plants look like bud machines. :ganjamon:

Had to laugh at myself when I saw that you raised the plants to the light. I did just the opposite. It was hell raisin all my CFLs everyday. ;)

Thanks, oldmedman. Yeah, don't worry, I did plenty of kooky things with this grow and especially with the box. Sometimes I just look at the whole setup for a moment and then chuckle a bit. Lucky for me, the plants pretty much stopped growing vertically by the time I removed the last books from beneath them. That was all luck, I'd say. I've got room to raise the lights, but that would have been a hassle with the drilling and whatnot. Also, I wanted to make sure that all the books (and other objects), but especially the books, were out of the cab by flowering time, since books can accumulate moisture/mold. Thanks for the great comments.

Hey,

Great Job man!
day55_10.JPG

Those do look tasty !

I would however do some sort of a flush before your harvest.

I would take maybe the last three days and just really douse it with pH'ed water.

Also are you planning on leaving those ladies in the dark at the end too?

P.S. i think the reason your temps are a lil high is because it looks like your using IR Shield. Ir Shield is really great for reflectivity but temps do tend to be a lil higher.. but ummm dude, doesnt seem like thats botherin your girls at all...

wowz...

+rep for sure

Hey, DroJo, thanks for checking in again. And thanks for reminding me that this reflective material has the IR shielding. I completely forgot about that, I was so focused on its advertised 97% reflectivity. i'm also using that stuff as my reflectors, so I guess i've been reflecting IR radiation (heat?) right back at the plants. But, like you said, they're not too bothered bout it.

Excellent grow- concise, and to the point! Sexy sexy buds.
+rep for you!

Thanks, ultrasonic, for calling my buds sexy, sexy and everything. Sweet.

:goodjob: that is one sweet cfl grow +reps

Thanks for checkin' in tunes420 and for the rep stuff!

Sweet. I'm probably gonna continue with the plain filtered water, then. Also, I can see that the leaves are starting to gradually turn yellow slightly, especially at the tips. I've read from several sources that this is normal at this point, right? Because the buds pull the resources and stuff out of the leaves? Yeah, started reading about curing last week. Thx, link.

Thanks, sonzor. I can't believe their frostiness either. I think I got lucky with a good strain, a nice drop in humidity, and lots of great grow information and knowledge from lots of great growers with lots of great journals on this site. Thx, man.

mary_juana! Thx for checkin' in and reps and stuff. Depending on what the trichs look like later today, three days of dousing may commence shortly . . .

About the dark period, I've heard something about folks using that method, but I really don't know much more than the claim that it plumps up the buds or something. Does it really work and, if so, how? Thanks for the kind remarks and interest.

The images that I posted yesterday in this thread appear small to me, but the image mary_juana just posted comes up full size. Edit: nevermind, figured it out.

Today is day56 of 12/12:

Trich Report! On average I'd say the ratio of clear to cloudy is about 50/50, some areas have quite a bit more clear and other areas a bit more cloudy. Found only a couple of very light amber trichs. Also, I noticed some yellowing of the trichome stalks in areas. They're like a translucent yellowish color. I don't know if that means anything. I don't think my camera can take a super closeup shot, but here are a couple . . .

doing a dark hour after flushing basically makes your ladies give up the last of their goodies that they are saving. After your flush try a 24-36hr dark period(36 is usually optimal) then harvest.

but hell by the looks of it im sure you've got that down... sheeeeeeeeeeet dude those are sweet buds under cfls

Dro, first off thanks for fixin' up my previous images by reposting them at the correct size. I think I'm gettin' the hang of it now. Yeah, man, both plants started producing lots of resin at around day 21 of 12 hour light. It just kept getting better after that. Looks like I'm gonna go for the 24-36hr dark period, although it's looking like these ladies have given so much already. Thanks, dro
