First Grow In Over 20 Years! Northern Lights Under 600W LED

Nice! How many drops are you going to start with?

Let us know how the water/oil/freezing thing goes. I don't recall seeing that anywhere.

I kind of predosed myself by accident experimenting but I’m not exactly sure how much I took. I was thinking that I might want to dilute it a little bit with water because I figure the alcohol content is so high it would burn my throat. So I wanted to see if this tincture would mix with water so I took one half a milliliter of my tincture and mixed it with ½ mL of distilled water and although it did mix nicely it instantly went all cloudy which I don’t find so appealing. But not to waste anything I drank my test mixture which I figure contained about 10 drops of my tincture but the problem is I took it while I was reducing so I’m not quite sure the potency. I think I was at about 2 ounces then so that would equal about five drops of my final. That was at least an hour ago and I’m feeling a nice pleasant buzz but nothing overwhelming. So that gives me an idea of the dose.

I will let you know about my freezing recovery method but I doubt it will work who knows? People seem to just throw away that last bit and since it’s 20% I think it’s well worth pursuing a way to get the last bit weather using the olive oil or alcohol method. When I look at how long it took me to write this reply I think the stuff is working, LOL.

Someone has a lot of time on their hands

Nice work Homer. Do tell how it is.

Actually tending to my garden and experimenting with extraction is keeping me pretty busy but it is a fun busy! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thanks, buddy and I did reply in my message to Shed how it is but I will update when I have a better idea.

I checked out your journal earlier and your buds look amazing. Great job on that! :thumb: :headbanger: :high-five:

LOL! Thanks Homer!

My pleasure Shed. Yes, just 10 drops and I am pretty buzzed.

One thing I was uncertain about was the soak time? Sweet Sue soaks hers for three minutes but Grandpa only soaks his for one minute and yet I found sites with recipes that called for soaks of weeks. I’m sure everyone knows that the problem is that if you soak too long the alcohol absorbs chlorophyll which is supposed to give a bad taste but at five minutes I found it was actually pleasant tasting so I think next time I will go even longer.

I've never been clear on why taste matters if you can mix it with anything you want or use capsules. Longer soaks and more stirring seem like a good thing to me. That's what I would do if I needed to run QWET.

Yes I totally agree that I would rather have the Buckley’s brand where it tastes awful but it works, LOL. Longer soak times it is! :headbanger:

Also to clean the resin off my fingers when I harvest I use alcohol and it isn't like it dissolves the stuff on contact, it takes a few minutes even rubbing.

Here are the girls 6 weeks and 2 days into flower after watering.

This is what my pot looks like that I boiled my bud in after alcohol extraction and it is looking pretty sad because there is almost no oil on the surface. Looks like a no go even though I read it is done this way by some? I am now reading about more efficient ways to QWET.

Thank you and I do care! I'll read it tomorrow. :thanks:

Sorry the water bath thing didn't work.

According to the article, a ten-minute soak is as good as a 15-minute soak as far as recovery goes so I will go with 10 minutes to avoid too much of the undesirable green stuff. Since I am using edibles instead of smoking it I guess it shouldn't matter from what I read.

I guess instead of boiling in water most people do a second alcohol wash so I will try that instead and try and see how much is recovered in the second wash and if it is worth it. In retrospect, I think when I read about boiling the leftovers they were doing olive oil recovery so maybe that is why it didn't work? It looks like with the alcohol method a second wash is done instead of a boil in water.

I had a dose of my QWET about two hours ago and I actually think it didn't perform nearly as well as my olive oil method. I think I only got about half the dosage. I used half an ounce for this test but half of it was the one-quarter ounce I used for the press test so maybe it didn't work properly because it has been squeezed? I find that unlikely but to be sure I am going to do another test tomorrow with QWET and if I don't get better results I think I will just stick with the Olive Oil method.

That makes more sense! With QWET there really shouldn't be anything left in the mash that you could get out with water. With EVOO (that's the abbreviation for extra virgin olive oil around here) there's a lot of infused oil left in the mash you could separate out in a hot bath. Some folks just use the mash for baking into brownies!

Hey, thanks for stopping by. :high-five: I am really looking forward to both your totals and next grow. :headbanger::party:
I'm always stopping by to keep an eye on what's going on in these parts. You're like Dutchie's brother, always something on the go.
Totals should be good. That last plant I took down I totally underestimated the size of the larger nugs. Not a lot of flarff either so it was a good grow all around.

The QWET was such a failure at extracting I am not planning on doing another one in the near future. I am currently evaporating the last of the alcohol with a fan of the QWET product I have to see how much oil is in there. I will have a better idea if it is worth it after I see the amount I recovered.

I also have a batch of EVOO cooking right now and I am planning on boiling the remnants in water to see how much I can recover. I have read that some use the leftovers for brownies but I don't get that; do they just dump the weed in the batter? I would think it would be pretty unpleasant eating bud and stalks?

I admit I do enjoy my little experiments and tinkering, lol. :cheesygrinsmiley: :nerd-with-glasses:

I am sure your totals will be off the charts! I am looking forward to what they are because the bigger the more potential we all have to shoot for. Very inspiring! :thumb:
