First Grow In Over 20 Years! Northern Lights Under 600W LED

Two plants?

For legal reasons I will say I have four. One Yummy and one Cannatonic each from seed and two Northern Lights Cuttings.

Nice job on the welding Homer. You whipped that up in no time! You're getting low on washer fluid by the way.

Thanks for the favourable welding critique, my ticket has expired, but I whipped that up a while back for another reason so I just happen to have it. Putting washer fluid on the list, thanks buddy; very observant!!

I stuffed two of my squish bags with 7 grams each of Northern Lights for Sunday's big event!!

Gotta get rid of the zig zags brother ;) Try RAW if you get the chance. Better for you. :thumb:

Thanks for the suggestion Sauga but I only smoked half of one for an experiment. Good to know RAW has safe products because that is who makes my parchment paper, :thumb:

I use those same bags Homer! I’ve found the return off the 90u bags exceptional but you don’t get a big return. I have just 160u bags into my cart along with a set of bubble bags to make dry ice hash with. I plan to make dryice hash with all my sugar leaf trim and squeeze that! I’ve seen some incredible returns off keif and hash Pressing!!

Be sure to post your experiments Homer!

I’m starting my own rosin thread soon enough to incorporate some styles of pressing and temp and bag ranges. I don’t want to blow up grandpas thread with my info and pictures so I figured it’s best to start my own!

Look forward to your results

Hey Dutch. Glad you like the bags I got. I will definitely be posting my results whatever they might be, lol. You seem like you are all over this topic so a new thread I think would be a great idea!!

Thanks Homer I’ll be sure to invite you on over then once I get it up and running!

Thanks, Dutch, I look forward to it. I put 7 grams in each of my 2.5" x 4.5" bags and I wonder if instead, I should have stuffed all of it in one. Do you find it is best to really stuff them?

Overstuffing will result in a higher chance of blowout which is what we want to avoid! 7g per bag is a good amount in those 2.4x4.5 bags you can fit 14g though! As long as the buds are evenly formed and equal with no big gaps going into the bags you should be fine. Flat Pressing is one style but there’s also “BTS” bottle or barrel tech style which create a cylinder puck first then presses but that requires a prebag bottom fold to make it seal properly without blowouts!

Sorry... I know it may sound confusing to explain without pictures! I’ll take some pictures tomorrow and press out some flower for you to show the BTS style.

Are you using a prepress? Not required but I have noticed it does help quite a bit

It’s good to know that over stuffing will result in blowout. I think I will keep it at about 7 g to start per bag to be safe because I do plan on using a lot of pressure. I shouldn’t have any gaps because I cut my buds up into little pieces so I would have any even distribution but I don’t know if that’s a good idea.

I did see a photo somewhere of BTS style squishing and I think I read people were getting more out of it that way so down the road I would like to give it a try so if you put some pics online that would be great but no rush.

I am not pre-pressing but I am aware of it. This time of year I can’t be bothered to work in my garage but once the weather gets nicer I was thinking I may make my own little pressing unit if I end up doing this a lot. I don’t plan on dabbing instead I am hoping I can mix the resin I get with olive oil to make a much more concentrated product. It just seems squeezing is easier and quicker but mostly is supposed to have better yields and I won’t have to use so much darn olive oil.

Dutch has pictures already. He just wants to make "more pictures" ;)
You know me so well! Get out my head!
:high-five:

Cutting or breaking the buds up to even sizes is a good idea before packing the bags. I aim for about .3-.5 size pieces when I pack.

BTS can produce a higher yield when done right but it’s for smaller amounts of flower! 3.5-7g runs. Once you get over that a flat prepress is a good idea and then a flat press will work just as good!!

When squeezing flower you don’t need a million pounds just a constant steady amount. General rule of thumb is not to go over 1500PSI at the plates to bag contact points. Anything past this and you will begin to press out fats and plant material that is unwanted in our rosin!

I would suggest trying a dab of rosin it will change your life haha! It’s definitely going to pick up your olive oil concentrations that’s for sure!

Good, glad I broke my buds up then. Yes I think I will just use a flat press for now.

Okay, the surface area of my bag is 2 inches times 4 inches so that’s 8 in.² times 1500 psi equals 12,000 pounds or 6 tons. I have a lot more capacity than that and since I don’t have any gauges I won’t know when I am there other than by feel. I was thinking of trying to measure the gap with feeler gauges? I am tempted I have to admit despite your warning to just totally squeeze one as hard as I can and see what my yield is like and if it’s edible. I will probably just split the bag but I could try going up in stages checking to see how far I can go. Or I could give it a recommended squeeze and then change papers it’s wrapped in so if it gets funky it won’t contaminate the good stuff. Should be fun!

I may try a dab just to see what it’s like but I hope it doesn’t change my life too much, LOL.
