First Grow In Over 20 Years! Northern Lights Under 600W LED

Watching @Dutchman1990 demonstrate his press in his video got me thinking about how I could do some resin pressing with the 50-ton press I have in my garage. I didn't know it was even possible till I saw his video but it looks like the highest yielding method I have seen so I am going to give it a go as soon as this cold snap is over. I think I have a method figured out and a local shop has the squish bags and paper. So hopefully in about a week, I will post some pics of my results.

I don't have a press but I have seen the same type of thing done with a hair iron at 180 degrees in baking paper. I plan to try this with a baking tray and a clothes iron. heat baking tray in oven to 180 degrees, put bud in between baking paper apply as much pressure as possible with clothing iron.
Just waiting patiently for my Buddha Cheese to finish and then I will give it a go.
Also cool about this method, there's no chance of blowing myself up!!!!!
What do you guys think?

I have seen presses online that use just a long lever for pressure so I guess it can be done with a lot less pressure but I would think the more the better. I am all for experimenting especially when no one gets blown up. I would just start with a small amount of bud in case it doesn't work or takes some tests. Good luck if you do it.

I think constant heat during the press is important, and that baking tray will be down to room temps in no time flat. I'd get two irons and a strong friend!
I hear you. I was thinking, to keep the heat up, to have my stove plates on low and put the baking tray on them while I do the press. ah well guess I will only know when I give it a shot.
Thanks. more thinking going on here

It looks like I will be doing some rosin pressing on Sunday as the temperature will be a sweltering 45°F. I picked up some parchment paper from a local smoke shop but unfortunately, they wanted a fortune for squish bags so I bought some online for a lot less.

I ended up ordering 90 µ 2.5” x 4.5” 25 pack from Amazon which were made by Supreme Rosin. They are supposed to be pretty good quality. They were $29.95 Canadian and only $5.01 for shipping and handling for a total of $34.96. I couldn’t believe it but I ordered them Tuesday morning and they arrived Wednesday morning with standard shipping or the cheapest they had.

So check in Sunday evening and I should have pictures and results unless of course, it turns out to be a total disaster, LOL. Here are my supplies and my 50 Ton press with the frame I welded up.

Me too buddy. I am pretty excited myself!! :thumb: :ciao: :high-five:

Failures are just as informative!

What are you going to use to heat the plates? From what I'm reading, stable temps during the press are a key factor.

Very true Shed that often we learn more from our failures than our successes so I will post whatever mayhem ensues!:cheesygrinsmiley:

Heating the plates is pretty critical I agree; my first idea was to heat them up with a torch and use a hand-held infrared thermometer but I was thinking it would be hard to really get the right temperature heated all the way through such a thick piece of steel and then I had a revelation!

I have been decarbing my weed in my heat treating oven because the temperature can be controlled so accurately so it struck me I can just heat up my plates in the oven also at the same temperature so I don’t even have to reprogram. I figure cooking them for an hour should heat them all the way through.

I am going to break the welds on that lower double piece of 1-inch plate and sandwich it between those and then put a piece of stainless, because it is such a poor heat conductor, between the hot plate and the Jack stem so I don’t heat the Jack up and ruin my seal just to be safe even though the temps probably aren't high enough to cause a problem. I think it really should work pretty good.

Thanks for the grandpa link. He is using the same temperatures I was going to. Over the next couple of days, I will read the rest of that thread. :thumb: :headbanger: :high-five:

Here are the girls after five weeks and two days of flower. So far so good with them seeming happy and healthy.
