First Grow from the Frigid N.E.

Hey Tiger, how's it going and good to have you back. Congrats for being nominated for MOM and you know you got my vote, you've always been so friendly and helpful.
It would be easiest to grow then harvest and then start another grow but I can't be that easy, I smoke too much then get too high and then I think to much, a dangerous combination. I figure I can get more plants in my space when half are full grown while the other half are just starting than having them all fully grown at the same time. I'm mainly just experimenting to see what would be easier and better for me and besides I really don't want to sit down for 16-20 hours trimming 8-10 plants all at once, some good Led Zepplin and killer smoke couldn't even get me through that.



I have a Mac also and I use preview, the pic program that came with the system software OS10, I'm running snow leopard now. It's a very basic program and easy to use and that's all I need.

Awesome report! Wow I can't tell ya how that gives me encouragement. I'm like you, I never really knew what I was smoking. Just presumed... Hey I'd be very happy to get something like the old green skunk bud that used to blow me away. And if there is better ..... a gift! What color where your trichs at 9 and then 10 weeks? Oh yea, that lime green skunk that had the bright red hairs and you could smell it a mile away, I remember that and it has been a long time.
On the subject of trichs that's a tough one. I was trying to look at a bud through the 60x scope I had and I could not see it as well as I wanted to and after the harvest I read somewhere to cut a leaf off and look at the leaf, newbie mistake. From what I could tell at 9 weeks they were about 50% and at 10 weeks they were considerably more, approaching 70% and that was too far beyond peak and won't happen again especially now that I've experienced the difference.

If thats true I really need to get me someNL seeds !! I haven't been that stoned for ever and I've been smoking at least 1/4 or more a wk. When I was buying it I always would get the best shit they had ! Maybe I should quit for a wk or 2 ? Naa I'll just smoke more

I would recommend NL #5 to anyone. I'm the same way, I always wanted the best and would pay for it but was not always available. I wish I had a friend close by I could trust where I could smoke some with them for a second opinion.

It's really true and did happen and was embarrassed to post this. I don't know if it was a combination of things like an empty stomach and the high or what but I can only remember being that high where I tossed my cookies once before. I've been smoking this strain of NL since November and I do get really stoned but not like that.

Hey everyone, it's been a week and time for a quick update on the grow.
My NL are doing very well at 88 days old and flowering for 35 days, the buds are still growing tall and are starting to thicken up. I'm up to 12 Rooted clones and all are doing very well, I have 5 BubbleGum, 5 NL #5 and 2 Crystal. 4 BubbleGum and 1 Crystal are about ready to go into the flower room and will head in there in about a week.
Since my 2 BubbleGums and Crystal are 88 days old and flowering for 49, in about 14 days I should be in harvest mode. I'm getting a little anxious so I took a small leaf from each of the plants and took a close look at them. There is some amber coloring starting to happen and it gets me excited knowing the end is drawing near. In about a week I'll take another sample and at that point I'll also start them on their water only diet.
Some of the content to follow my not be suitable for all so I'll do a follow-up post. Here are a few g rated pics of the 3 ladies about ready for harvest.

Crystal, Her smell is very strong and smells of kerosene, I wonder if she could heat my home?

BubbleGum 1, Her smell is sweet but not near as strong as Crystal. She looks good enough to chew on, I wonder how long her flavor would last.

BubbleGum2, She was not topped so her main cola gets me going, heeeeee.

I wish I could post the smells where you could scratch and sniff your screen.

The Crystal smells of kerosene and is very strong and the BubbleGum has a sweet smell, strong but not as strong as Crystal. I can't wait to get my lips around it.

Hey everyone,
Things are getting busy around here and wanted to give you a quick update. I just smoked a bowl of NL so there's no telling were this update will take us.
This next stage of the grow has reached the 8 week bloom, 56 days and I'm hoping for a harvest early next week. This morning I got the wild bug so I took one small bud off each of the three plants. From the buds I took a look at the trichs and there is not really much change in colors from the last. Crystal has shown the most changes and I put her around 25% amber, BubbleGum I would put about 15-20% amber. I'm really starting to wonder if they will be ready next week. I trimmed the buds, put them in a small paper bag and set them on top of the cable box, it stays warm and should dry quickly. My plan is over the next few days to smoke one of the buds as the first bowl of the day, this should tell me where I really stand on readiness.
In an effort to reach my goal of a monthly harvest I put the next crop in the tent this morning; 4 BubbleGum and 1 Crystal. I'm also trying 3 gallon grow bags on a couple of the BubbleGum to see what they are like.
The five NL#5 plants are doing very nicely, they are at 42 days bloom and will be ready in three weeks. I trimmed off the leaves today on all plants that were yellowing and past the point of usage to the ladies.
The grow closet has thinned out some since moving the new grow today. I now have five NL#5 and one Crystal that will be transplanted to their 3 gallon bags and pots in the next day or so and they will replace the five NL when they come out. Now that the new bloom cycle has begun it's time to start planning on the next veg cycle. I think this time I will take two Crystal and three BubbleGum clones. After a few grows of all 3 strains under my belt I will figure out what I want to grow each cycle, I'll take into consideration ease of growing, yield of harvest and quality of smoke. Is anyone as lost as I am on these cycles or am I just stoned!!!
The bloom tent is full right now and bulging at the seams. Instead of taking pics of all plants, way too many, I took pics of the tent and the test buds.

I'll give a smoke report in three days.

Just a minute ago I felt like a child in a candy store, come to think of it I might have been but I was walking by my tv and noticed the paper bag on the cable box and could not resist the temptation to check out the buds again. I took the three of them in my hand and put them to my nose to take a good smell. When I pulled them away and started to put them in the bag I only had two buds not three. I was looking all around the floor because I thought I dropped it. I noticed I could still smell the bud and it was pretty strong so I wiped my nose and there it was, it was so sticky it stuck to my mustache.

Hey everyone, it's time for the smoke report.
I cut three small buds, one of each plant, did a quick dry and smoked each one of them on different days and they were the first bowl of the day.

BubbleGum:
Smoked on two different days and the smoke was about the same. Getting underneath the bad taste of fast dried and non cured smoke was not easy, the taste was definitely sweet but will reserve the comment about tasting like double bubble or bazooka for after a good dry and cure. The effect was almost immediate, it was strong in the head with an overall body buzz, very relaxing and more of an indica high, although short lived it was a good high.

Crystal:
Smoked second day, again getting underneath the bad taste was not easy. I've never had hash so not sure what it tastes like but this might be it, a very different taste. After you've been around diesel or some sort of fuel and the taste you get in your mouth from the vapors in the air, it was similar to that. The effect was a little slower to come on and did it come on. It was a very nice high that I'm not used to, the effect was strong but much more clear with a light body numbing. The high was short lived but was long enough and clean enough to run all my errands and be coherent enough to interact clearly.

I know the taste will get better and the high will be longer and stronger after a good dry and cure. Neither was even comparable to NL#5 high and I'm sure that will change also plus they still have at least another 5 days and maybe a week or two for Crystal.
This Monday, the day before harvest I'll take another sample bud off each plant. I'll check trichs and let dry to sample Tuesday before I harvest just to ensure everything is right.

It's like me looking for my little corn cob pipe (everyday pipe without plastic stem). I looked all over and even asked my wife if she saw it. It wasn't till I went to check my jacket pocket that I realized it was in my hand! Must have been a couple of minutes till I realized it!

I'm going to have to go check out Frys Journal so I can see what he is doing. I like to follow NL#5 growers, it's a great support system. I would recommend NL to anyone and especially if you are living in a northern state where the season is cooler and shorter.

Getting there is tough and I'm sure staying there might be even tougher if the grow cycles are different lengths of time and Crystal being high a sativa plant could take 10+ weeks and will throw everything off. She is covered in buds but they are still growing up and have not really started to thicken up yet and harvest is supposed to be this Tuesday.

That's funny about your pipe and can relate and I bet most of us can. I've done that with car keys before, being late for an appointment and running around the house like a mad man trying to find the keys that are in my hand and I've also done that with my sun glasses, I'll look everywhere for them and then someone tells me they are on my face. LOL

I know your NL will be as good if not better than mine, you're a great grower. Just remember 63 days of flowering, that is the perfect time for me and I don't even do a smoke test or a trich test on them anymore, for you I would recommend at 56 days watching yours very closely because of the different lighting and set up we have.
When you finish smoking your first bowl you will look him and wont care at all but there is one thing missing, your couch because it is going to put your a** on it. I'm highly anticipating your smoke report.
