First Grow DIY Box & Bagseed

Hey h00k, sorry I thought I had replied to this lol. I think your right about the 5g buckets. Lowe's has some dark blue ones for like 4$ a piece should block most of the light. On the 30th I pick up my new led lights full spectrum 1000w. Pulls about 200w I believe.

...ahhh OK...just the one then?...ideally 2(or 3) would be nice, to better cover the footprint of your space and maximize yield, but if only the one for now, utilize your led's and cfl's as well...cheerz...h00k...:rollit::passitleft:...

Looks good, Bro! FYI, you're issue with the seedlings is over-watering. Those new sprouts don't have any roots yet and the soil stays moist for quite some time. In veg, you want the plants to go through a wet/dry cycle. Let the pots dry out almost completely before watering again. It encourages the roots to search out the water and builds a strong root system. Don't let the plants get to the wilting stage, but you'll notice the pots are considerably lighter when dry. Once they get some roots and can start drinking, the pots will need more frequent waterings.

Hey Krip! I really did try to let them dry out after watering and they were bone dry when I transplanted, but they seem no worse for wear, love how hardy these plants are.

Just the one for now, I know if all goes well I will probably grab another the 2nd grow. I was already thinking I will keep at least the CFLs and maybe the led if I can mount it with some benefit.

Update Day 38 A Day 28 B

Quick update, A1's growth has slowed alot. I think she has depleted the nutrients in the soil and I gave her a light feed yesterday and will begin alternating with a feed then straight water. Still have no idea my PH levels as my pen hasn't arrived yet. It was supposed to be in yesterday but they updated saying by the 28 saying it's Canada Post still having delays. It left China on the 13th and has yet to be scanned in Canada.

I have been taking a few leaves off, all four of the original fans and then a few here and there as well as the under nodes (nodes pointing down from the 4 main branches). I will likely transplant her by next weekend and hope to flip to flower a week or two later.

B'S all have a weird genetic thing cause when I topped them the one side topped itself again so I have 3 main branches on the top so they will have 5 main branches.

The B's are both taller than A1 and I have started bending the branches on node 4 but am struggling due to the height. I did what Ase always warns about and snapped a branch today adjusting a tie. It wasn't fully through but it's not really tapeable so I will just leave it. Worst case I'm back to 4 branches. I may need to transplant these earlier than I wanted just to try and control the height by burying the stem further.

And now some pics:

Quick little update, the busted branch I ended up removing. It started wilting and didn't want the plant waisting energy on something not likely to recover.

I noticed a few spots and a bit of yellowing on A1 so I added about 1/2 tablespoon of Epsom salts and 3 ml of nutes to 4L of tap water that had been left out (still not convinced this is worth doing as pretty sure most water treatment plants use choramine instead of chlorine now and it doesn't evaporate but I can't afford to keep buying bottled so hopefully works out)

Fed all three with this as the B's are technically larger now than A1 but I have seen abit of growth recently on her so maybe she will grow a bit more now a little more nutrition.

Merry Christmas everyone! Have a safe and happy holidays and hope Santa is good to all!

All caught up! Looking great and looking forward to seeing your set up with your new light you spoke of

Glad your here Happy! I grabbed the light yesterday and will have it all setup today, photos to follow as the girls have been really growing (B's especially)

Update Day A 47 and B's 37 New Light Day:

The new light has arrived! And boy is it purple, everything is green when you look away. Definitely want a pair of those cool ass glasses that filters. If anyone has a recommendation on a nice cost effective set please share.

So at this point my lighting is no longer DIY, but I think my old system definitely was successful in veg and may have been ok for a single plant to flower. I'm going to run just the new led for now and a little later I will supplement with my old lighting and replace a few of the 5k with more 3k.

Pictures of the plants before setting up the new light:

Girls were also really thirsty today and probably should have been watered yesterday.

I do need to light proof before flipping, which should be in about a week. Lights I have started at about 28"

Very nice, I bet your girls are going love the new upgrade!

They are indeed HH! I really wanted to upgrade their pots today as well as I'm pretty sure they're root bound by now in the 5L pots. I was able to grab some 5 G pots today but ran into a problem getting soil.

All the soil I wanted was frozen solid! Lowe's tells me there will be no soil till April lol. I cant find it anywhere else so I'm going to have to order another kind from Rona but it will take 3-7 days to come in and it's 3x hotter than the stuff I wanted. God I hate winter lol

Ok this trying to find soil in winter months is killing me. I cant find any available locally. Rona has some pro mix with 9 months of nutes in it which is a lot more than I wanted. It will take 3-7 days for them to get it (assuming I don't get a call after ordering it)

Option two is to buy shit load of the cheap ass dollar store potting soil. Not much in it so I don't need to worry about burning them but I know it's not great soil.

Anyone want to pipe in with their opinion it would be greatly appreciated.

I order ProMix HP from Wally World.

That being said, to answer your question, I'd order the good soil and purchase just a little bit of seed starting soil. Start the seeds in the starter soil and transplant when the good soil arrives and/or the plants have 3-5 nodes.

Thanks Krip, this is needed to transplant my existing girls to for final up pot. Is there any issue going into pro-mix HP? I've never used it before. Do I just increase my nutes as it really wouldn't have anything in it?

You can transplant directly into the PM. Soil has plenty of nutes in it! They just need to be broken down by the microbes to be usable by the plant. You can always add things like EWC, Rock Dust, Blood/Bone Meal, etc. if you want to supplement the soil, or just feed normally and see how the plants react. If you see them craving more nutes, you can up the dosage. If you see the leaf tips starting to yellow/burn, then back off the nutes a little.

...I'm kinda' with Krip..I think!?...you can amend that cheap soil...if you can access some ingredients from a local nursery...bone meal. kelp meal, gypsum, blood meal, EWC...sucks buying soil even in the spring, from big box stores cause of over wintering...good luck!...cheerz...h00k...:rollit::passitleft:...

So mother nature was kind and was above freezing today, and I was able to grab a bale of the soil in wanted. The girl at customer service says she asked seasonal to bring some various soils in as there has been an increase demand lol.

Got my meter from China today, it was supposed to be two, a ph meter and a TDs meter. Unfortunately only a TDs meter came. Thank goodness it off wish and they had already refunded me since it took longer to arrive then expected.

So just letting the soil warm up for a bit and then transplant my girls into their final pots then in about a week I'm flipping, maybe sooner if all goes well.

Pics coming after transplant!
