First Grow: Blue Sherbet Bagseed

Very nice recovery she seems to be adding new growth like you said.
Do you plan on training her? maybe topping? or were you going for the completely natural shape for your first grow?
Not really sure but I don't have a lot of hight for her to grow, I really like what happened with the net , so I think I am going to stretch a net across the tent, not sure where to get one I think I will just cut my fishing net been looking for a reason to go back to the bass pro shop..🤣

you may want to start considering a top SOON
not right away to not shock her again fresh after recovering
but we're almost there if you do plan on training for height, she's going to need something done.

Hi bud. She's gonna go wide once you top her so I think that's why the suggestion is to do it first. I'm not a user of the netting so I can't add any personal thoughts unfortunately

I tried scrogging and found it to be a pain. I now do quadlining and like it much better. A net is good to help spread branches and colas out but if it's attached to the tent you can't take the plant in and out to work on it or the tent. And the stems get stuck in the net when harvesting.

I know a lot of growers really like them though. Just not my thing.

Quadlining????

I do quadlining and top seedlings between the 4th and 5th node, leaving a decent stump behind which can help prevent the stem from splitting later on. I remove the 1st and 2nd nodes and train the four branches from nodes 3 and 4 out the the four corners of the pot.

Link in my signature if you want to see the detail from the originator.

Training definitely comes down to personal preference (within reason). I've done a mainline before and it was crazy how many colas I had (18 or so I think, from one plant). But, it takes extra time in veg to let the plant grow before a flip. Since you're probably going to deal with height issues later in a small tent like that, keeping the canopy low, flat, and wide is going to help you.

You still don't know the sex of the plant yet, do you? I'd hate to see you go through all the veg training work and wind up with a male. I've only grown a photo feminized plant before, so I'm not sure what people do in veg as far as training goes when it's a mystery.

GREAT POINTS @AspenCultivator and to answer your question about training a mystery for me... I don't! I save myself the heartache early on
I couldn't imagine having to untie a male out of a scrog

Are you meaning just making sure your seed is feminized from the get-go? Or is there a way to determine sex before the flip?

I only pop and train fem seeds. I believe there is actually a way to test the sex of the plant before the flip tho give me a moment and I will try and find it.

"Chemical leaf testing is getting less expensive every day and can be used on cannabis seedlings with just a few sets of leaves to test for sex and future potency.

These tests only require a tiny amount of plant tissue (for example a small punch-out from a leaf, or a single cotyledon leaf), so it won’t hurt or slow down your seedlings to take a test sample!

In general, the tests are available for seedlings as young as 1-3 weeks. Sex testing uses a real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) test, and potency tests use Gas Chromatography with a Flame Ionization Detector (GC/FID) or High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography with a Diode Array Detector (HPLC) for testing.

Although testing can be done as early as week 1 from germination, waiting until week 3 to conduct testing on seedlings can increase accuracy, and some companies won’t conduct testing until week 3.

There are many reasons growers would like to know plant sex as early as possible, as well as be able to estimate the overall THC/CBD ratios of future buds!"

This was pulled off a website I'm sure many have come across in looking up how to grow cannabis on a single search

I'm sure there's better more accurate info regarding this.
I've never done it or really cared to delve much deeper than knowing it can be done.
I'm sure someone on these forums could speak to it waaaay better than I could

Preflowers will show you tho as well.

When the plant matures and starts staggering growth usually you can kinda see those male or female traits starting to show.
Especially when you veg into the net.
The extended time in veg will allow the plant to mature and show signs so that by the time you flip you can already see it.

Sweet, I knew about the testing but didn't know the viability of it. Femmed seeds can be expensive, but it's completely worth it in my opinion so that's where I start as well.

I forgot about the staggering growth in flower...mainly because during my only grow I was too busy dealing with her stretch to pay any attention haha. It sounds like keeping an eye out for preflowers are going to be the best bet here.

I helped my neighbour sex his plants by preflowers this summer. They often appear after the 5th node, but you can't always be 100% sure.
As far as training goes, I do it a bit like @Azimuth except I use 8 branches instead of 4. I call it octolining.
I top after the 4th or 5th node (depending on how well the side branches at the first node are growing) and use hooks devised by a member named @Carcass to spread the branches. If the first node looks weak I trim it off, but if it looks strong I leave it.
I took pics of the spreading process this summer.
Here's a link if you'd like to see.
You could go with as many branches as you want with the hooks.
