Hello Bryan and welcome to the neighborhood! I don't know if you are intending to flower this plant out right away, but you might still consider giving it 2-3 weeks vegetative lighting (18on/6off) so the plant can stretch out a bit before being forced to flower in 12/12. By increasing veg time, you will thus increase your yield at harvest time. I'm not saying to veg forever, just at least the bare minimum.
If you do switch to a veg schedule, I suggest putting a bowl of water in there to add humidity to the air as it's winter now in the northern hemisphere (which I assume you are on), and winter months tend to be on the dry side. If you can get to a wall mart, they sell $3 temp gauges with a built in RH meter and that covers 2 sensor readings right there. If you want to splurge in that same store, they also usually carry electronic temp/humidity devices that measures at least temp in 2 locations and some models also measure humidity at those same 2 locations, (the model I have only reads temp in 2 locations and humidity in 1, but it's all good through.
I started in soil the same exact way you are now starting. In top soil from the yard (bad stuff) mixed with perlite and I later graduated to Ocean Forest soil by Foxfarm. Unfortunately mine turned out to be a male, but the experience has taught me a lot. My advice is to keep building your grow abilities by adding whatever you can to complement your growing environment as these things will likely come in handy for future grows because let's face it, who joins this site with the intent to grow just 1?
Not asking you to give us every detail in a single post, but please do make effort to give as much detail with every post and you can bring us to speed and we can better help a brother out!
