Just thought id ask feral, have you got any tricks or tips for training
as far as getting the colas to fill out. I'm no wizz on node spacing,
i just train them to fill the cupboard.

Just noticed my colas are a bit "patchy" and not as full around the
tops like yours. Is it all in the topping,or a bunch of other variables?

Obviously we all grow different ways,just looking for ways to improve.
 
About the only thing I can recommend is to keep them as low as possible during veg and then let them go in flower :thumb: I still don't know which element of my training is causing the massive colas but I am not going to change anything to find out :rofl: I'm 99% positive its due to the defol I do while topping, keeps the main structure tighter with less stretch which in turn I think affects the node structure later on ;) Another thing which I think really helps is aeration, ever since running 3 air stones in my flower DWC's they have just exploded with growth, even saw an increase after upgrading to an even bigger pump so imo the more air to the root system the better growth :) There are other ways too by using your lights, the closer your lights are to the plant the less they will stretch, in turn making the node structure even tighter. No defol before stretch is over! if you remove fans from the upper nodes (part of the cola) they will start to branch, screwing up the structure of the cola ;) At the end of the day a lot will come down to light penetration too, I know if I have a lot of fans blocking light I don't see the same results, have been lucky with the Diesel strains as the leaf to calyx ratio is awesome, doesn't take much to get light right through the canopy :thumb:

Interesting. It's always good playing with different techniques and seeing what happens,
as long as youre sensible.haha.

I just want "toddlers fist/arm" style colas if i can manage it somehow.

I'm still trying to work out the best height for my light towards the end. Going to
try and keep the plants real low like you said and get the light up higher.
You would think how close i have the light the whole cupboard would
have buds like that, obviously it doesnt work like that.

From what I'm noticing with the Air stones, the root ball will only grow to the capacity of the air available in the res, once Sour is completely harvested I will grab a pic of the roots :thumb:

Toddlers fist is easily achievable ;) some of these colas on sour are as big as my arms :rofl:

I'm thinking of playing around with the lights a bit more on the Incredible bulk, usually just leave them at the top of the tent and let the plants grow to it but this time I might try keeping it about a foot above the canopy to keep stretch to a minimum. Can get bloody close with these lights, as long as its not directly under the bulb they can be about 3" away from the hood without burning or bleaching, that's with a bare bulb :) I wouldnt recommend running them that close though :rofl: Are you still running glass in your reflector? could be another limitation if its blocking UV ;)

I suppose more is more with anything really like this,hydroponic/aquaponic.
I'm just saying that because ive seen aquaponic setups with massive pumps but
mainly aerators in the fish tank, lots of them, and fish's growth alone is staggering.

Imagine using a jet spa,and growing a tree from it. Thing would be insane.hahaha
gives me ideas.

I have to keep that cover on the shade because its riveted on and the way
ive got the fan/ducting setup it draws through the shade and keeps the
temps/air flow good.

How much of a difference it's actually making i dont know. It's perspex i think.
Might be worth taking it off and seeing what it does, i do remember the hydro
shop saying not to run it without it,have to check on that. Cant see why it wouldnt.

U reckon it could be making much of a difference?

I'm picturing a hot tub spa with a massive screen and netpots now :rofl: :rofl:

Not sure on the screen if its stopping any uv but id suspect it would, don't know how much difference it really makes as it would still give off almost the same amount of light just without uv :thumb: I know just a normal pair of plastic sunnies blocks it so I'm guessing Perspex would too, only problem is in your space it might be too hard to control temps with an open bulb, might be possible in winter ;)
 
Blaze, I'm just a little easy going jokester but I read some of what i write back and sounds harsh and confrontational, not what I mean.. I wish I had a better way with words..I'm glad you know what I mean, jokes :rofl:

I wouldn't worry about lowering them too much if its affecting the temps, 18" should be pretty good, I want to try keeping mine at least a foot away this time in flower, too hard to maintain when its so bloody close like now :rofl: not to mention it makes it harder to take pics :rofl:

So after all the harvesting the past few days I have not had much sleep, tried Monday and had less than an hour due to assholes bashing on the door, yesterday I tried again and lasted all of 15mins before someone started bashing on the door, in other words I did nothing but sleep last night :rofl: no harvesting got done, didn't even unlock the door :rofl: Hopefully should be able to get Sour completely harvested tonight and then will have the weekend to thoroughly clean up the tents :thumb:

Exactly the reason I was leaving my lights at the top and letting the plants grow to them :) better light spread in my 5x5 :thumb:
 
thought I had better go stick my head in and have a look, lucky I did, dehumidifier was full, that's the second time ive had to empty it in 2 days, holds about 4L at a time so 8L in 48h, bloody hell its humid! considering it has taken almost 12 months to collect about 1L :rofl:
