Far East Buds 1st DWC Grow

Alert Alert ...nothing to see here !

8-22-2015 (70-61-39) I hate when the site randomly goes down for me for an hour ;)
Still no little Blankers eating my plant! Yahoo (fingers crossed , Salt over shoulder, Knock on wood)
OK vitals:
temp 73.7-81.5
Hum 74-80
PH 5.63 PPM 890-845 (corrected)
So I added some PH'd, Bud Candied, Cal/Maged water to top it off. It was low but she didnt drink as much today. PH had dropped and my ppm risen in the 2 hours since I had checked it. Ill top it off and such later on prob before bed.. it's my late night. ;)

BAM!

They really are darkening fast... but i know don't get excited.. This one isn't done just yet!!!! umm I hope..

well lets reword that I'd like to harvest tomorrow but I'd rather wait until next week if she fattens all up ;) still realistically 2-3 weeks!

Ok the Pic above is horrible but I posted it to show an example look at the fan leaves in the light.. very hard to see but there are hollow spots in the fans and you can see the light through them.

If the next step is to have all the pistils brown up then she is doing a power walk!

One two, one two,...
I am still battling the heat in there.. Now when I say that and FYI it is canopy temp in my vitals. I have never seen temps I recall except the veg tent above 78...
Typing it makes me realize I need to log it ...Doh

I have 2 - 240 cfm fans that I use to push pull the air through room. The outside temp of the room is usually always 68-69 max. (much lower in winter)

My filter is just circulating for odor.. 3/4 speed tops .. it is 440 cfm.

I know I know the 440 needs to vent the room... 240 in and possible extra vents free flow.

I just like the filter on the big pretty one... it's screwed on nice and ... ok what ever i'll do it...

I did mess with it tonight didnt really help so yah next step is 440 to vent.. I won't dim my light damn it!

Thanks for looking I did get some info for the perpetual too but I may need to update that in the am or later on tonight..

Thank you Sue for the post somewhere I saw and need to read (when I lost the site for an hour) about when to harvest. It's a must read ;)
:peace:

Geez I haven't had time to read the rest of the journal so I don't know what's been going on around here but looking at the plant pics I keep expecting to see smoke rising from them or something

I'm not sure how to take that a good thing? a bad thing?
hehe

You're welcome Far East. It was nice of Doc Bud to share.

I must of been asleep or something. Had to read 3 pages to catch up. :)

Those weird brown spots on your leaves don't look like any mite damage I've ever seen and I've see lots. Mites leave little white dots randomly all over the leaves until they go almost completely white in a bad infestation. Those spots are something else and maybe the neem will help with whatever it is.

Here's a recent thread with pictures of mite damage. White dots - Black spiders

Normally when you spray for mites you don't see any for the next day or so if you do a good job of spraying because the adult are all dead. Then the eggs that those laid start to hatch and you hit them again 3 days after the first treatment to kill them before they get mature enough to lay their own eggs. Four treatments should do it if you can soak the whole plant down well each time.

When I did my second treatment I wheeled my 500W shop light over to be able to see where I had sprayed a lot clearer. The first time I used 250ml and thought I did a good job but was running short at the end. I mixed up 350ml for the 2nd time and when I was done I could still find dry spots all over the undersides of the leaves so emptied another 350ml on her before I was confident that it was 100% covered. I couldn't even find a mite before I started but did find a thrip.

Real PITA is what bugs are.

I either didn't fully read this or something so I'll explain mine... OMU I think you are right on I think the spots where a cal mag/ def and even possibly nute burn because they where spiking and I was not lowering them (ppm's) properly for this stage of growth. Upon trying to figure that out I think I caught the very beginning of the out break. My spiders where the white ones with two black spots...
I do think the neem helped even the burn because it is so oily. I think honestly the leaves would mostly have dried up and cracked off in pieces if not for the coating.. bath. Just a stupid theory take it for what it's worth.

Tonight will be the test as if there are eggs then they will start hatching anytime from here.

Thrips are a lot easier to deal with than mites. I've got rid of them by hand a couple times before. Need to get some Tyvek coveralls and treat the grow room like an operating theater. :)

Far East, you should be able to just mash any mites you find from now on if you check all the leaves daily. The majority should be gone and it will just be a few here and there now. In the summer I'm almost phobic about changing my clothes and especially socks and shoes that I have worn outside in the grass. Winter is much easier. The little bastards are buried under 4 ft of snow and froze solid at -40. lol

Yah good stuff OMU I agree so far late last night I was still unable to find a single one...I just may possibly .... nope i won't say it...

Be sure to let us know if using neem oil adds anything to the buds taste.... As far as washing the buds, i don't think any residual neem oil will be water soluble.... It wasn't when you mixed it with water to spray...

Yah I agree that it being oil it wont just wash off but the method doc bud uses I am hoping it will break it down some. Odd enough the oiliness seems to be lessening and compared to right after treatment of course much less. I can't see any oil on the buds with a lupe and it still has all the tric's. I plan to do a decent flush as well. .... Tough one.

It advanced extremely fast only 1-2 days 50% canopy affected. So I took drastic measures but what ever I did made a difference as the deficiency or what ever stopped progressing...
I wouldn't go the Neem route this late as I posted how I literally think one more day would have been bad. The pistils where still all "green" or fresh when I sprayed it. A day later they started browning up. I wouldn't want to have done it then. It may have helped that happen but not with any ill effect so far. they look normal just browning up. just all theory crap...

The bad part is unknown strain I have no baseline.

Only time will tell on this one but I surely will post it all here...

Thanks for looking Fish!

Oh and a note on the neem oil... It has kind of a distinct smell to it... If it gets into the final product I can understand why people would notice..
I won't even attempt to explain it too much but sort of spicy I thought the smell. Should be noticeable.

Yesterday I couldn't smell it at all even when I had my face buried in her looking for critters. Her nice aroma was back.

Subscribed Far East Buds. It was a fun read and I'm looking forward to you finishing strong. :high-five:

I was thinking , when you did your "Mass" defol, maybe think about trimming at day 21 & again at day 45. Trim up (3) inches wait two
days and trim up (3) inches until you reach the screen. Just my thoughts. :Namaste:

I believe you should get your Dehumidifier very soon, you don't want to become the "LEADER OF THE BUD ROT CLAN" Again just my thoughts. :thedoubletake:

You have some of the best growers here on 420 Magazine helping you and I'm sure they can help with my thoughts. :adore:

First I always like to thank you for watching and chiming in...

I have zero idea what I will do on the next one... well it is going already... but as far as defol... scrog... This whole plant was just to learn and get it rolling ... when only 1 of 4 plants became female I decided to scrog for max yield ... But if I get 6 in flower at a time off cycle some then it will be about the flow and quality not quantity...
Yes a dehumid will be on friday for sure....probably too late but was a bill week ;/ So I am trying to drop the temp some more...
yah this is a great thread to learn sometimes what not to do ..hehe

Edit: Thoughts on the Defol .. yes I think you are right 5-10 fans a night for a few days and the plant would probably not even hiccup i bet. But... It's hard to stop once you start... put the snippers down. Maybe next time i'll make a limit #.

So I got so caught up in responding to all the participation that I forgot to mention I did switch all my fans around... 440cfm vents to outside now but goes through cool tube first. 240 cfm running filter and circulates in room... 240 cfm for intake to room with a few extra 4 inch holes to allow for extra intake as needed.
I noticed the 440 on full definitely was way stronger in pulling the air out.
I'll have to keep and eye on it... and definitely get that de humid soon.

If you're shopping for a dehumidifier here is a thread I started when I was looking. I needed low draw wattage. But the other thing that turned out to be extremely important for me was this auto-restart function because I only need/want my dehum at 'night'. Without the auto restart I couldn't put it on a timer.
The lower humidity as a result of it running, as well as probably the increase in heat (quite a lot even with mine which is only 300 watts (if I remember right which I probably don't) but is on the 'low' setting so actually I have no idea what it's drawing atm) results in more water consumption from the plants. Probably a non issue for you. But there will be some changes - just so ya know. I use the dehum the bare minimum. I'm going to have to rejig my whole operation and use more medium in my pots/bigger pots so I can be away for four days for work as I have to be. Blah blah blah here's the link.

Looking for help sizing dehumidifier for 8x8' room

Kudo's to you for your research! Much Much appreciated... I am torn whether to dehumid my whole basement or the grow room. If I do the whole basement no extra real heat to contend with but it may not be as effective. I am sure it will take testing to find what works best... I've moved my fans at least 5 times now...
