Fanleaf's Huge 42 COB Array Build Plus Other Builds

Sorry about all my q's. There's just sooo much to learn. When Im not here learning from u guys, im watching growmou5, and reading jorge c cannibus bible. :)

A 4*4 is only 16sq/ft... How are u going to put 24 cobs in at 14" spacing? From my experience with cobs, u do not need 1 per sq/ft.. Mabe 1 per 1.5 or 2sq/ft.. Even then you can really cook ur plants..
P.S. - be careful of thermostat wire.. Lots of it is only rated for 50 volts.... Melty, melty...

Fanleaf's Huge 42 Cree CXB3590 COB Array Build Plus Other Builds

Im up & I cant f'in sleep!! I've been up since 2am running thru different lite configurations. :( can you guys help straighten me out!!

Im thinking two 4x4 are easier to handle than one 4x8. Each 4x4 will have 24 cobs 14" apart. I want to add a uvb lite in between arrays. This is my first build and want to make as ez as possible. I see Jimmy & Growmau5 place the drivers on the build. I think thats easier then placing them outside the growing room. Will that cause heat issues running 24 cobs? When more $$ comes in I'll end up with 48 cobs in the room.

For drivers, Im thinking 2 drivers per 4x4 at 7mA. Or should I go with 3 drivers running 4 lites to have more control of dimming? If Im looking for efficiency is it better to use 700mA and get by or use 1400mA knowing I can go brighter if needed?

Ok. Hoping this helps clear my mind. Thanks guys. Nite.

Heres a quick outline...

X = 5000k

You really only need 16 COBs max in a 4x4. You can get away with 9.
For a 16 cob array use 4 rails with 4 COBs each running at 36v @1400mA. This will give you 136000 lumens. That's a massive amount. That's 800w.
Depending on which cob supplier you pick you may want to rethink the 3000k/5000k mix. It's a good mix. But only if it's switchable. I can give you Fanleafs wiring diagram and make a video on how to make a 4 cob array switchable from 2 COBs to 4.
If you go with Cree 5000/3500 is a better v/b mix if using Vero 4000k/1750k is a great option.
Personally I would stay away from the 700ma option. You can always dim down....you can never dim up.
Driver's on board does not create a lot of heat at 1400mA. An extraction fan takes care of the heat. Average tent temp is 74F with a carbon fan running. Approx 2F above ambient. Very very cool compared to HID. Even cooler than most Mars arrays. Also 1 UV light is more than enough in a 4x4. UV is VERY energetic. Also very dangerous if not used properly. To give you an idea of the energy level....the next energy level up from UV is X Rays. That's one level up from VUV (Vacuum UV). Which can penetrate your skin and destroy/damage genetic material in your body (ie. cancer) so careful with UV, especially in the 240nm-300nm range.
15 minutes exposure to UV B will cause blistering of the skin and severe sunburn.

I put some primary wire on megger and done insulation test on 500 volts and it failed miserably. I only use 600v rated wire, and another reason I don't use the inline automotive fuses on drivers. I gotta mount a piece of din rail, and put fuse blocks on for my drivers. Right now just using resettable circuit breaker on the timer strips. Thermostat wire usually only used on 12 and 24v

Guys, if I were to cover a square meter...3 x 3 ft....what would your suggestions be on amount of lights needed. I'm looking at the cree cxa 3070 but a little unsure on amount and mix between the 3000k and 5000k. Added to that if they are rated at say 113 watts you are not necessarily running at max so do I take half or 3/5 as actual watts...really confusing when it comes to working things out in a country that doesn't have everything available.

Couple things JimmyJames, first I have a 2' x 4' x 5' with 2 vipraspectra 300w LEDs.I want to add a COB setup to them, but am wondering if it's possible or needed? If it is how big of a system could I do in my limited space?

Here's a pic of some proper wire, a lot of people won't use it because you have to buy 500ft reels from electrical supply house( not at lowes or Home Depot) can get on eBay shorter lengths. It's rated for 600v

Via spectra are not good. I use a 2x4 and I use a 4 COBs Vero run of a hlg185h-c1400. Probably the cheapest build around.
But come flower I run some flower lights too(which I'm testing) at 1750k.

Nice, and unfortunately that's one of my issue's
My lights don't feel like they are doing the job.
But money is a factor in my life so I always have to go cheap or free, which stinks. I want to build a setup or have someone who knows how too and can build one for me.

I actually was given your name JimmyJames905 to look up and talk to about getting a setup.
