Fanleaf's Huge 42 COB Array Build Plus Other Builds

Yes, Yes, Yes, 3. I bought a premade setup so moving the drivers outside of the tent isn't going to happen. I am going to get them to send me another dimmer. I also noticed that 2 of the 3 Meanwell drivers are warm to the touch but nothing that crazy but the third driver is hot to the touch, holding the hand there for a while starts to border on uncomfortable. I will have to give them a call tomorrow and see what we can figure out.

I was able to scavenge the dimmer off of my other identical panel that I am not using, so all is well.

Ok then, hope that sorts it out for you. . if not you can blow/pull the heat upwards or enlongate the wires after warranty. But with meanwell drivers they actually come without plugs of any kind, so the 5 or 7 year warranty of the drivers is NOT voided if you do put them somewhere else. But you will figure it out when you managed to run a 600W HPS. . .

I have enough air moving, but drivers put off lot of heat. My Temps went up 1 degree after I added 2 drivers and 8 chips. I'm definitely putting everything outside of grow.

this is 24 hrs after added the cobs, plants seem to like it, way more penetration than hps in the back. I have dimmer turned about half.

Good lord, Fanleaf! I turn my back for a minute and this thread is up to 64 pages! Wow! Do you see what you started? The demand for COBs is outstripping supply! And I blame YOU! LOL, j/k. :)

Seriously though, if it hadn't been for this journal I would have never have ventured into LED lighting, so thank you very much. I just today fired up my new Cree 3590 system. I have 8 3590s with 140mm heatsinks driven by two HLG-320H-C2100b drivers for 0 to 80 watts per square foot, dimmed down of course. I'm still running the 600W HPS on the other half of the tent until the supply of 3590 COBs catches up with demands.

I'm good to grow!

that looks outstanding! :surf:

That is exactly why we go for 1 cob per square foot ran at much lower power. Usually around 35 to 40 watts per chip. They are far more efficient that way and generate a lot less Heat

so thinking this through after the fact. My little grow. I have. 1.5 ft by 2.5ft footprint, 3.75 ft sq if my maths hold true.
So I am doing pretty good with four COBs running at 50%. So far the heat level is acceptable. Penetration looks good. I like these COBs more everyday.

Cheers!

It's the weirdest thing, I put the other dimmer in there and ran it full blast and temps were comparable to my HID. Without the dimmer I have one driver running crazy hot and the tent was +3 degrees. I suck at electronics, but since everything is good to go now I am not going to worry about it.

I'm growing in a same sized cabinet and I was thinking of going with 4 COBs too when I get the money. How many watts are you drawing at 50%? Active or passive cooling?

50 percent depends on how many Milliamps your driver pushs and your chip uses.

A Cree CXB3590 36V uses arround 50W@1400mA. Same chip with 72V uses 50W@700mA. Citi 1212 36V pulls 45W at 1050mA, Vero29.7 36V pulls arround 69W at 1750mA, a 69V chip would be way over 100W. So you get am idea that 50% says nothing in terms of actual wattage or lumens because it depends on chips and power supply used

I think if keltic went the standard route of 36V cree 3590 and a 1400mA driver he will use 4x25W at 50%

After I finish this vero build, I'm going to put together a Cree build for another 5x5. Then maybe a citizen one for my last 5x5. That would be one hell of a comparison grow, between the 3 with clones

Check this beast out. It uses the Philips LumiLED 5050 (lots of them) and Mean Well driver, and can be specified from 2700K to 5500K with a CRI of 80. It might be a bit cumbersome at about 35kg. Single unit price is US$1300.

You know... for when you're ready to expand your grow. :)

110 lumens per watt makes it less efficient then a double ended hps. Be great for a football stadium though

I'm dying to buy one. I'll play with it for a while and then put it up in the driveway to be triggered by my perimeter sensors. Just don't tell my wife what it cost! LOL
Or sinse there will be exactly 1500 heat watts with it you could heat your house!
