Ive covered that for you in this thread a few pages back didn't I?

Yes you did but should I ditch the LED's and use the driver I have? Or are those LEDs good enough to just keep using and buy a new driver?along with the Cree Cxa's? Also what's the web site you use for heat sinks and fans , Cobs ? Thanks again

You think 10 would be enough or should I look at more?
I have about a $500 budget. This new tent will be our flower tent.

I would do more than 10 in 18sqft myself. I would prefer 18 but 14-15 would be fine.

Hey guys, I came up with a cheaper way to heatsink our cobs.
Now yall know I love to go passive with 140mm X 80mm gigantic sinks right? I use them because they are big enough to go passive and still run 80 watts per chip with no issues. The problem with those as they are $22 to $26 each plus ridiculous amounts of shipping usually. Well the cool thing is I got to looking at the back of the SST 120mm sinks. They are far cheaper and can be bought for anywhere from $13 to $14 each but they can't handle much over 45 to 50 Watts at the very maximum without getting fairly warm. If you run anything over 50 they get hot enough that the efficiency of the LEDs go way down because they are just too hot. But I got to looking at the back of one of the SST 120mm heat sinks and noticed 4 funny pins.

Instantly my brain starts working and I find that those holes are perfect for mounting a 50 millimeter fan. My testing shows with only this tiny 50 millimeter fan rated at 9 cfm's keeps these cobs absolutely plenty cool up to 70 plus Watts each. It actually kept the cob cooler at 70 Watts with the fan on then it ran at 45 Watts with the fan off.

At 70 Watts the sink only ran at 93 degrees Fahrenheit at its hottest point. I'm going to test it at higher wattage even. The power supply I was using would only provide 70 Watts but I have a feeling just adding this tiny fan will keep it very acceptable heatwise at 80 Watts.
These fans are $1 each

Would you recommend 3000k? I don't see any 3500k.
If I can afford to get 4 more I will, and I'll try to utilize the tiny fan and sink idea!

In Vero or Citizen I prefer 4000k for start to finish. For Cree the 3500k if using 1 color temp start to finish. Ill get you a part number for the Vero at Digikey now.

4000k= BXRC-40E10K0-D-73
3500k=
BXRC-35E10K0-D-73

Again. To me and a few others looking at the spectral charts, with the Vero's and some Citizens the 4000k seems the way to go for start to finish.

So for would 3500k be better for just flower?
Found the 120's on northern for $14.50 each.

Slightly if just for flower yes....I have 12 of the 120's on the way from Northern as well.

That part number pulls up one with SE in the description and the other regular i guess?
Should I get the SE version of the 29 or does it matter?
The SE is about $1.50 more per chip.
Suppose I should use 3 drivers to run 14?
I'm worried this may get over $500 real quick!

Can I run them all on 2 hlg320h-c2100?
Looks like I can get 4 per driver and at 2100mA would run at about 37V and 79w.
Maybe I should go with 3 1400's or 1050's?

If you run 14 or 15 chips you will never need 2100ma. Even 1750ma driver would have more capability than you really need. The 1400 milliamp driver would probably be the way to go.

Haha I think the lower price is for 50 at a time.

I just bought mine the other day and they were on sale at the northern grow lights website. I did get a really good sale price but the real price break comes if you buy 30

He's sold out of the Vero29 now.
Jamie has the 185h-48 on sale but I'm not real sure how that works?

Good lord, Fanleaf! I turn my back for a minute and this thread is up to 64 pages! Wow! Do you see what you started? The demand for COBs is outstripping supply! And I blame YOU! LOL, j/k. :)

Seriously though, if it hadn't been for this journal I would have never have ventured into LED lighting, so thank you very much. I just today fired up my new Cree 3590 system. I have 8 3590s with 140mm heatsinks driven by two HLG-320H-C2100b drivers for 0 to 80 watts per square foot, dimmed down of course. I'm still running the 600W HPS on the other half of the tent until the supply of 3590 COBs catches up with demands.

I'm good to grow!

Very nicely built. Simple but awesome design. The whole tent looks great

I got my 12 COB CXB light in today (actually two of them, but for now only using one). I went into the tent, pulled the HID and got the thing all settled into place. I fire it up and VOILA! Only 8 COBs are on. I must have troubleshot the dang thing for an hour. Thought I had it narrowed down to the driver. Replaced the driver, same exact thing. So I did a little of this and a little of that, realized the only thing it could be was the dimmer. Disconnected the dimmer and she is rocking and rolling. Thought I would see a bit of temp drop versus my 600 watt HID, that's not the case. Actually think she is running a bit hotter with the COBs.

You use same 600W of COBs too? Passive heatsinks? Drivers in there? How many? Try to get every electronic component outta there possible. I think a 600W HPS with in a cooltube would heat up the tent way less then passive COBs with drivers in there on top, depending how you get rid of heat of course.

I reduced my tent temp drastically by moving the drivers and a cob fan power supply on the outside wall of the closet. More usable power because of overall less heat, even more light completely without AC. Luckily the room i grow in dont get much warmer during the summer month then it is in winter.
