Fanleaf's Huge 42 COB Array Build Plus Other Builds

Fanleaf I'm a noob at cobs been doing research on it but my concern is yield.

Hello Mikeo!
Well, to be straight up with you there is a difference. Yes, unfortunately if you build a great COB LED setup there is a slight change in growing habits that will have to be learned and the real bummer is you may end up with a bunch of weed that you didn't expect an don't know what to do with:thumb:.

In all honesty Mike it truly depends on you and your light. Just going COB LED won't guarantee as much or more than your used to but the specs of the light you build makes a huge difference. It's all about efficiency Mike. The ability to make more usable light with less energy. Depending on the cob setup it can end up being less efficient than hps, the same as hps or far far exceed hps in efficiency and final product.

After many light builds I had quite a few members that wanted to see me do a "grams per watt" grow. I decided that to put my grow room where my mouth is it may not be a bad idea.

Here's a link to that 510 watt grow.Fanleaf's 1st Grams Per Watt Grow Under The 25 Cree COBS

It's not quite finished yet but is sure looking to be upwards of 1.7- 2.0 grams per watt from the wall. Yep, looking like the possibility of 800-900+ grams of solid rock hard LED buds from 510 watts. Shortly we will know for sure. The next grow I will do in the same room I will crank up the lights and do a grams per square foot of the room grow to see just how much I can pull out of that room. It's 4'X4.5'.

If yield is your concern the question shouldn't be "should I go with COB LED" but rather "how do I make an "efficient LED array capable of out pacing any hps". :volcano-smiley:

Thanks I understand is about efficiency which I like.

I'm use to the way I learned n wat to learn more here is wat I normally use 8)Dutch Leach Tray
8)GRO-SLAB 6"
24)Botanicare MC Dripline (1/8" line w/stakes)
1)550 Gph water pump
1)40 Gal reservoir
1)IGS-011 cycle & IGS-011L controller
1)autopilot 4 outlet controller
4)Gavita pro 1000 DE
1)2 ton water cool a/c
Build on a table 3'x12'
My normal yield is 9+ lbs.

I'm open to watever amounts of cobs I need I'm in the process of starting my grow again welling to sell everything to Start right
16)clones n/a haze
1)Co2 4 burner with control

So if your Table is 3'X12' I'm guessing the area that you need to cover well is slightly bigger? Perhaps even coverage over 4'X14'? Does that sound about right?

It look like a will need 56 cobs

wat will be a great combination my thinking of Cree cobs n dimmable if u can put a list together for me I will really really appreciate dat

Actually 56 would be fantastic but with your area I think I can come up with a killer 50 cob setup for that. It would give you a fantastic ppfd at about 1100 using 2000W-2100W but be capable of 2400W with a 50 chip setup. But unless you use C02 you probably wouldn't want to run it at 2400W.

Cob efficiency at 2400W would be about 55%

Okay, I see now. You are having to use 4 Gavita DE 1000W units. Yep, thats about 1 gram per watt. Hell yeah man. I can cut your power usage down 40% and still leave you the possibility to yield the same. lol

Maybe my power will go down more than 40% it looks like I won't be using this big a/c

True, that setup would generate 1500 watts less in heat vs what you are running now. Let me get a few drawings together for you along with some specs on exactly what the light would do and provide. I will report back with some options as soon as I'm finished with what exactly I would do in that situation.

If I have to go wit a lil more cobs for more efficiency I will wat combination I need to work wit n Idk how to thank u fanleaf

No problem. Always here to help. You will here back from me here soon. Efficiency is always what I shoot for.

I have 32 x SST133's and about 56 feet of 1" angled aluminum and will be starting my next build of 32 Vero 29 D SE 4000k split in to 4 panels of 8 cobs and will be powered with 8 hlg 240h c1400b drivers for an 8x4x6.5.

I'm thinking about adding some of the meatchips in the mix when they become available as well.
