Emmie's Vegan Fertilizer, Pineapple Chunk 2020 Celebration: Experimental Soil Grow

Mid-Flower, Day 18

Today being an even numbered day, it is watering day, and the plants once again were able to take their full gallon apiece of 6g/g MC, plus 1g/g Sweet Candy. The buds are still building fast, working on hopefully being one of my best harvests in several years.

DSCF7796.JPG

Today we did some engineering in the tent, and with the help of @SgtKiLLx we have solved the problem of negative pressure causing the tent to bow in onto the plants. Thanks to his skills and his 3D Printer, I now own 8 of these corner pieces.
DSCF7798.JPG

They fit so perfectly onto the tent corner poles that they snap into place and need nothing else to hold them there. The larger slots for 3/4" PVC are just as accurately made, and the PVC snaps down into the groove and is solidly in place. I have found that the left side of the tent, where the carbon filter and electric reside, really didn't need this extra brace, but when I get my 4x4 tent going again, that 4th side will definitely be braced up.
DSCF7792.JPG
DSCF7793.JPG
DSCF7794.JPG

The garden cam confirms that the tent is no longer crowding the plants when the extraction fan is on and the addition of these braces has effectively increased the functional grow area of this tent.

Lastly, one of our superbuds, as we watch it fill in along the branch

Those are great for defeating the negative pressure!

Mid-Flower, Day 19

Upon opening the tent this morning, there was a difference. No one had been slammed against the sides of the tent for the last 24 hours because of the tent bowing in, so everyone was standing a little bit taller.... with a little bit less stress. It is totally subjective, but I think they are happier.
DSCF7812.JPG

The buds are very much advanced from where I would expect them to be at day 19. Trichomes are already building on the buds, deep down into the canopy. By the time we get to harvest, these buds are going to be a sticky mess of trichomes. Click on these pictures and zoom in on these buds:

DSCF7813.JPG

The Sweet Candy was tolerated without a complaint, and maybe this too has contributed to their overall happiness and building trichomes. In 2 days we will be at the 3 week mark, starting on the 4th week of bloom, and BE will be reintroduced. I ordered my next bag of MegaCrop, and it does appear to me that they have partially ground up the balls in this batch... there are not nearly as many of them. I have a plastic jug that some dog treats come in that holds around a gallon of stuff, and it has been repurposed to keep my MC better contained and moisture free. Having committed to 750g of this stuff, it should be assumed that I will be running MegaCrop in my next grow that will probably start around April. We are house hunting in earnest now, and hopefully will be able to start the next grow (Durban Poison) in a new house and under our new NextLight Mega lighting.

Lastly, here is a picture of Emmie's soon to be private stash as it builds:

It's definitely going to be fun watching this cola form!

Day 20, Full Bloom

Being an even numbered day, it was watering day. Today I have seen what I have been looking for, the signs that full bloom has started. It is at this point that the plant's need for P and K are greatly increased. This usually happens in the 4th week, and here just finishing up the 3rd week and not quite in the 4th, I have been waiting to go back to the Bud Explosion supplement for this sign. They got 6g/g of MC, 1g/g of SC and .5g/g BE.

Suddenly today, I have been able to spot 2 buds on 2 different plants beginning to sport the very first coloration on the pistils. Instead of the puffy white puffs of buds, where are the pistils are pointing straight outward from the center, there are buds all over the tent suddenly starting to fold over the tops of their pistils and beginning to show signs of color.

DSCF7825.JPG

They are beginning to fold and color, and this moment is the beginning of full bloom. We will stay in this new stage till around week 6, when we will note the next change in the physical presentation of the buds. Until then, up to 60% of the pistils will change color.

Mid-Flower, Day 16
Today, being an even numbered day, it is watering day, and not so surprisingly anymore, they each were able once again to take their entire gallon of 6g/g MC only mix, that before stretch they could only accomplish every 3 days. These plants are suddenly using an extraordinary amount of water and I am willing to keep pushing them just as hard as they want to go.
In just two days, look at how much more my prized soon to be foot long bud is filling in:

DSCF7771.JPG

As far as the previous difficulties with locked out K, there are hardly any signs of this able to be seen. Even leaves previously damaged and looking sickly, are now robust, showing good lift and contributing to the overall greatness of the plant.

DSCF7773.JPG

The entire lower part of the plant is looking great too. There are no leaves yellowing at the bottom, and no mysterious spots or burns. These are happy plants, working hard to churn out some amazing buds.

DSCF7772.JPG

Here is the view from the top this morning. The buds are really blossoming now, each top a fuzzy mass of pistils looking for pollen, but destined to be disappointed on this run.

DSCF7770.JPG

And then lastly, a couple of buds. That definitely is frost beginning to form on these buds, all over the tent. Two weeks into bloom and already seeing trichomes. This is going to be awesome.

Really great photos backed up by much desired theory!

Is this strain trichome heavy? Because we can really see the trichomes starting to fill in now!

You have me on edge what is the next phase after week 6? Is that the second bud swell? I'm just finishing up week 6 today and indeed km.about 50 percent pistils colour change and last few days they do seem to have been packing on the meat

Exactly the right spot... this is the ripening stage, where the buds are packing on their most weight. The pistils are beginning to dry out and pull back while 60-80% of them are colored. The trichomes will be building fast with the majority of them being cloudy. If giving synthetic salt based nutes, this is the time to do a 3x flush to clear the soil of built up debris and it is time to pull back on nitrogen a bit while keeping the finishing nutes high.

Yes, I expect a lot of trichomes on this variety since this is known as an extremely hard hitting product.

Full Bloom, Day 22

Today is watering day and since we are now at the most crucial time in the growing cycle for feeding, we increased the levels of Sweet Candy and Bud Explosion and kept the MC at 6g/g. I will also report after working with it for a couple of waterings now, that this present shipment of V2 MC has been ground up to a large extent and one scoop of the stuff gives me a very satisfying pile of powder with a reasonable amount of small white balls in it. I mix it in a bucket with hot water and then cold water after stirring to bring the mix to luke warm (the plants seem to love luke warm liquids in the winter time) and then I apply it. The Sweet Candy was applied at an increased rate from last time, so they got a little blue scoop of the stuff, or 5g between 3 gallons or 1.67g/g. The Bud Explosion was increased from the 1/2 gram last time to 1g/g as we continue to carefully monitor the plants for problems.

There are however, no problems like before. The buds have literally exploded into rapid growth... just look at how these buds are filling in along the branch to form this big main kola, in just the last couple of days. You can see it!
DSCF7827.JPG

The plants are loving this treatment and not only are rapidly increasing the size of the budsites, but they are also piling on the trichomes already.

I think now that they have so much more room, they gonna do alot better.

I'm using megacrop with pro tekt and calimagic every feeding. 6g megacrop and 6ml of both PT and cm. Just recieved my bud explosion and I'm getting ready to add that to the grow. Today is day 24 of flower. I'm growing in happy frog soil in five and seven gallon cloth bags. Should I look to decrease of even stop the PT and CM. Or can I run those till the end. I have high powered led lights. My last grow I switched to Mc mid veg. Once I got to flower all the girls showed signs of low calmag
I lost a lot of fan leaves throughout the flowering cycle. They were white widow autos. Got 13oz from them but the smoke was weak. I'm just wondering if it's because I lost most of my fan leaves from yellowing and dying off to soon. The plants are looking good this round and losing dying leaves is almost nonexistent since I started using PT and CM with the megacrop.

Edit: nevermind saw your grow journal. :)

Very beautiful as always!

And I'm going to give the cages a try - any tips & tricks I should know about that you've learned using them?

It seems from the MegaCrop thread that many of the experimenters in hydro are finding that PT and CM are needed in those grows. I see evidence in my grow, using tap water and soil, that nothing else is needed other than MegaCrop. The recommendations to run PT and CM are for hydro folks, running RO water and there is absolutely no need for PT in a soil grow. The other supplements, SK, SC and BE should be used with caution and only during the appropriate times of the grow for each product.
WW is known to be nute hungry, and 13oz is not a bad harvest. The smoke being weak most likely has more to do with the genetics but also could be because of a lack of the nutrition she wanted all during the grow.
It is easy to mistake some of the things that MC does for a couple of different deficiencies, and I am finding that in most cases, these problems are fixed simply by increasing the MC dosage. Just as so many have advised me as I went off half cocked using all of the GLN supplements, I would recommend running just MC for a bit and see how they do. This die off probably had something to do with the weak smoke, but most of that probably is genetics or over cloning, or expecting photo quality from an auto.

I love the cages... this is my new method of choice. I recommend putting them on as soon as you can, after going to your final pot because it is a little tricky getting a big plant tucked into the holes after it has gotten too big.

Thanks so much for your insite into the problems that have

Thanks so much for your input and insite into the problems that I've been having in flower. I thought maybe it was a calmag deficiency. So I ran both protekt and calimagic to eliminate that problem and keep my PNK numbers correct. I dont want to steal your journal with my problems. I've got the same issue showing up again with my leaves yellowing on this run. After I get home from work today I will take pictures, post them in my journal and attach your name to it.
Your plants are so beautiful. Congratulations and thank you for all the information you share in your journals.

Full Bloom, Day 24
Here we go again. The plants have definitely told me several things after that last watering. Today is watering day and I have made some adjustments.

First the overall color is not right.
DSCF7834.JPG

What I am seeing is not MegaCrop green... it is forest green... it is too dark. So my assumption that my plants were the biggest and baddest in the world and were of course needing 6g/g was an error and for this watering I have dropped back down to 5.5g.

With all the powerful stuff that is already in the overmaxed out MC, I was giving even more with the increase in BE. This time we see similar symptoms as last time when the K got locked out by giving BE too early, but with a significant difference. Potassium is funny the way it displays on the plant... a deficiency can look a lot like an excess. Very similar burned leaf margins and elongated necrosis of the tips can display with each, but when it is a toxicity situation, you also get actual very small tip burns all over the plant in places where the K problem is not being displayed.
DSCF7839.JPG

This is what I think is happening with these plants. I think that despite this being a time when I desire to up the nutes a bit for the developing buds and thinking that I had good cause to use the BE, I had been already "upping the nutes" by giving too much MC. Adding the BE at this point at the "full" dosage was too much, note the upward curls.

DSCF7838.JPG
DSCF7837.JPG
DSCF7836.JPG
DSCF7835.JPG

This time, I did not give BE at all. I dropped MC back from the supposed max dosage (I know people give more than 6g/g) and assuming the Sweet Candy is totally beneficial, I maxed it out at 2g/g. (imagine a mad scientist laugh)

We shall see. This Megacrop stuff is very powerful. A couple of more days should tell us where we are at, and here at Emmie's gardens, we are documenting it fully... warts and all.

DSCF7833.JPG

Have a wonderful day everyone!
