Emmie's Perpetual Vegetative Grow Rooms - 2020-2021

Oh... I have solar update too. My system has passed the final inspection and there is an order to replace my meter. When that happens, we go live.

I have seen the app, even though it is not showing any data yet, that will be monitoring my system. I will be able to easily see how much per hour/day/week/month that I am both generating and consuming, so it is going to be very easy to see how much each new lighting system will affect my energy usage and by how much.

Praying for many sunny days in the future... we will soon have practically free electricity!

Here are some new root pictures. At the moment it looks like 7 out of 9 are definitely going to get roots... maybe all of them. The bubble cloner has been vindicated. The several changes that I have made over this overly long cloning session are: setting the cloner out of the direct footprint of the strong LED light with UV and IR, giving the cuttings a 6 hour dark period instead of 24/0, and using cloning gel about a week ago. One or more of these changes has finally convinced these reluctant cuttings to throw out roots.

The two cloner sites that are not yet producing roots seem to be dryer than the rest. There must be something wrong with the airstone on that corner and I will investigate after this run to see what needs to be adjusted or cleaned. The other 7 slots are really producing some good roots now and I think as early as tomorrow several of the plants will be ready to be transplanted into soil. One of each will be set in Veg Room #2 to be Mother plants and the others will be quickly developed in Veg Room #1, to go into the Bloom room as soon as possible. When I have room in the cloner, I will take cuttings of the NYCD and Strawberry Cough, hopefully for a much quicker cloning session and they will eventually get the same treatment... one will become a mother and the rest will go into production.

I want to share the bookkeeping system that I am using right now. I am managing this in google calendar, and it tells me all I need to know at a glance, from any computer I log into.

  • The blue W entries, like on the 18th, show which plants got watered that day
  • The lavender F entries, like on the 13th and 18th show feeding days for each plant
  • On the 19th I have a special grey entry, denoting a special application of something or some other special action
  • Green denotes a vegging plant, the number is the day of veg.
  • Yellow shows a transitioning plant and its day
  • Red shows a flowering plant and the number of days in bloom.

On the 14th, the PIO meeting was a fluke and I am not sure how it got on this calendar. The Weight is an automatic entry from my smart scale, when I remember to step on it.

After 25 days in the cloner, we have this: (please excuse the cell phone pics this time)

Most of this happened in the last 2 days so something finally worked. All 9 cuttings were showing roots at one stage or another, and the corner where we were having problems, even the worse one was showing a small developing root. Rather than have a runt in this run, I culled the just now developing one and called it good at a 8/9 success rate. We now have 5 more Deep Cheese plants and 3 more Gummy Bears, in process.

The cloner was taken apart and cleaned, noting that the well water had allowed algae to form. Indeed, there are some good uses for chlorine in the grow rooms, and after a good cleaning the cloner was filled with tap water for the next attempt.

Today I will be taking cuttings of our NYC Diesel and our Strawberry Cough and I hope that this time we get a 5-7 day response from the roots and the clean bubble cloner... maybe 10 since these plants are already in the process of flowering or transitioning.

What a smart bit of ingenuity

The solar is finally hooked up, inspected and working. So far, I have only seen a couple of cloudy days, but even generating less than half what is possible, the system is keeping up with the lights and the rest of the house just fine. When we actually get a full sunny day, we will be giving a lot of energy back to the grid.

Very neat, must be a relief to have it completed. I should look into this more than I have....
It really is one of those no brainer things when you crunch the numbers. I have immediately added $26k to the value of our home if we were to sell it, and indeed even now, we could flip it make a tidy profit if we wanted to. Considering normal power bills and the very modest bill I now pay on the Solar loan, I am making money each month. This and the equity I am adding by paying off the Solar on this 20 year note, gives me an actual payout and recoup of my costs, in about 5 years! Every time the electric rates rise, that payout gets nearer and nearer because my cost for electricity will always remain set at $123/month. And, as long as I manage it right, clean the oven and bake during the day, run the big lights during the day, and heat the house with electric, especially during the day... I will never pay any more, no matter how much electricity I use, as long as I don't exceed the limits of my very large system. 7.68 KW per hour is a lot of energy!

All of the clones in the solo cups, all 8 of them, have taken off and will soon be needing 1 gallon containers. I have gone through 120 lbs of soil so far up here in the grow rooms, and more is definitely needed. I need to check around to see who has Ocean Forest and Happy Frog available near me!

I got a bit more mylar up this week too, but mainly I have been very busy so far just keeping up with the 14 plants we have been working with so far.

On the bright side... it is sure going to be a green Christmas around here!

Yeah I’m having the same issue. Like I want to change my ducting again, get the twist out. I keep telling myself I’ll do it before the plants get big. Same with the LAB serum. Yeah with what you’re dealing with you’ll have your rooms finished by next fall.

The Gummy Bear and Deep Cheese clones are a week in soil and just now starting to really start growing well. They still aren't drinking a lot, but that is because they didn't have a lot of roots, either.

Look at what has happened in just a week, in two of the plants! The tap/feeder roots have already made it out of the drainage holes! This is actually just a random shot, but according to some of the gurus out there it immediately means that I must uppot. Nothing could be further from the truth... we are still looking at a 3 day wet/dry cycle at least... we need a lot more roots than that before we transplant.
