Update

Howdy gang! Just a quick one tonight but got something to go over today. In the 2x2 I’ve got the 2 CBD Blue Shark (2gal) and 2Fem. Maple Cookies (1Gal). I’ve decided to flip this tent with these 4 ladies this week so today I gave them a big defoliation. A few before and after pictures below!

After this heavy defoliation today they will get a few days to recover and then flip this week! I’m excited for this CBD strain to make some 1:1 oil. Hoping for some blueberry terps.

Anywhooo I’ll let you get back to your regularly scheduled program!

Stay Medicated

Good luck with the BB terps.
Thanks Penny

Why have all that light hitting the dirt when it could be hitting the fans that power the plant? I never take off so much I can see through to the pot.
This is a first for me! Normally I’m conservative which you’ve seen from my past defoliations but I wanted to try something a little different for these few ladies. This is a technique I’ve been reading about online which is an extreme defoliation technique used to maximize budsite potential. I have no idea how well it works which is why I’m testing it out on 2 plants but I see @ProfessorFlora strip his girls was back and they do great!

I’ve watched a few time lapse videos of the process and the growth afterwards and it’s impressive how fast they will fill in again! This is just a test to see how it works but I won’t be going as extreme in my 4x4 tent this round.

I was poking around for info on something one day and came across BlackDogs "blog" on their commercial site. (Yes, the light co.) They were doing video grow journals, and I watched through one series.

Short of it, yep, they also did a heavy, heavy defol. Multiple times at that!

I was shocked, honestly, but I couldn't argue with their results at the end.

Dont bug him Shed...Dutch is a Canadian hero!

I schwazzed, and this is how it's working for me

This is where I got it from as well, in particular the Hindu Kush grow. Schwazzing is a technique developed by a Colorado cultivator.

Black Dog is a Colorado company.

I think this was 4 strains in a 4x4, but can't remember exactly what the specific grow was for now. Either way, it was interesting to watch through. Different strokes for different folks and all.

I don't doubt they'll fill in again, but that means the plant is expending all that energy replacing leaves you've removed. And while BVB's plants are frosty AF, who's to say what they'd look like if he had left 50% more fans on.

I try not to take a lot of advice from commercial grows...many of them are still flushing their nutes at the end to remove the "nute taste" from their end product, so bro-science hasn't left the commercial side. And they have lots of other reasons to strip...ease of trimming and environmental control among them.

I'm waiting for someone to grow identical clones side by side and strip one.

Id like to think the plant has said screw it to growing leaves after the strip and says, Ive got to get this flower thing going and prioritize my energy that a way. Yes the leaves do grow back, but not at veg rate of intensity. I also tend to think there is a lot of maintenance energy spent on keeping those leaves going, AND the smaller more healthy leaves at the top of the colas are way more efficient at photosynthesis than old tired spent fan leaves that are being kept around for photon sails.

As you metioned, it makes the trim easier, and frees up photons getting lower down and better air circulation. Its easily worth the trade off if there is one at all.

Just my 0.02 ...Canadian currency though eh.

By the way Dutch, we nominate you to do the multi tent comparison....Thanks for volunteering.

For the science!

You got it! I’ll plan this out for the next cycle I’m interested as well!

I’ll be sure to do it as I’m interested to compare the results as well!

Well, [/wipeshandstogether] that was easy.

This is a phenomenal journal! Reads well and lots to learn from, thanks man! I'm looking forward to seeing that 4x4 tent flower!
