Dutchman’s 1st Grow Ever: 2018

Friggin awesome Dutchie... make us Canadians proud eh buddy. Go #TeamCanada
We really need to start :420: International style grow off. Imagine if we had all kinds of sponsors join in and support it. What a blast that could be. Teams of four, based on looks, yield, quality of smoke. Screw it, I just want to be a judge instead.

We did the international (well...Canadian vs Statesian) Jack Herer Auto grow but the competition aspect never materialized and we all just stayed friends :).

If you don't mind me asking, and I know I've read somewhere why, but what is the intended purpose of snipping off the tips of the leaves?

And I can almost smell those beauties thru the phone screen! Lol

I think its to encourage root development, gotta nudge them to get stuff from somewhere other than the large fan leaves. But I've never cloned so what do I know lol

Hey TBE! I don’t mind at all it’s what we are all here for to learn! The reason we ship the tips off the biggest fan leaves is to redirect plant energy. If the cutting have a lot of leaf they will try to continue to grow instead of produce roots. When cutting the tips off your big fan leaves it tell the cuttings they need to send energy downwards to start producing roots so they can begin producing more leaf again.

Another quick tip for clone taking... if your planning on taking clones try to take them from lower branches as these will establish roots quicker than an upper branch would.

:passitleft: If only we had smellovision!

Geez bro talk about a bunch of dense sticky buds, your killing it!!
:drool::passitleft:

Ahh thanks Scout! These lovely ladies have stolen my heart and my oh my they just keep impressing me with the beauty !

#teamcanada!!! Haha thanks sauga! Really learned a lot with these girls and they are rewarding me well for all the love and care I have given them. I would love to judge to competition but I think being a grower is more fun! Haha

You nailed it stirstick! As I me mentioned above to TBE cutting the leaf tips off cutting shells to promote lower growth and tells the clones to push out roots !

When you see the yellow tips on cuttings that a god sign as the plant has begun to canabalize it’s weaker fans to produce roots and then start pushing out new leaf!

Great info in clones today, thanks Dutch!!

Hope it helped HH! I’m no expert cloner yet by any means but 7/7 is a pretty good success rate so far haha and from what I have learned thus far I am confident in cloning again in the near future ! Practice makes perfect and I will always attempt a clone or 2 from every strain I grow from here on out since some strains are more difficult to get rooted than others.

Now speaking of clones !!! Let’s show some pictures from this morning shall we!

The 2 smaller critical clones have started growing now and are stretching up to the light. I’m expecting them to take off like their sisters in the next day or so!

Keep em green everyone and stay medicated!

Funny story actually !
I’m a contractor and work on people homes and have reference pictures on my phone well.... I was showing one client and swiped to far and bam big ass weed plant lol! Whoops but oddly enough it led to them asking about it and we joked around and now I have been their contracting and med supplier lol

Nice story lol
Not everyone is a hater I guess :passitleft::bongrip:

What’s up everyone!

This is a flash update so just a quicky!

Got my yo-yos in this afternoon installed 3 in the tent and they work like a charm! The colours on EM are really coming through but it’s super neat to see as it’s mostly under the LED side of the tent. The HPS side Isn’t showing the colours near as much.

EM mutant girl is chugging away! All her colas have started to girth up and show some crystal action!

My clones clones my lovely clones ! What can I say. The 3 EM clones are growing like crazy I’m going to have to raise the light soon! My critical+2.0 clones.... the 2 that were transplanted from jiffy’s into the 1gal have just exploded these past few days. The 2 that were started in the original 4” pots were slow to start growing but have begun to grow now. Not anything close to the growth on their sisters but they are going to be teasing tokens for me! I have a buddy who recently received some seeds and he would like a clone so a trade is in order! Excited about that.

Sweet looking clones Dutch, good work!

Thanks Penny! Much appreciated!

Your right about the EM clone leaves, looks like a completely different plant lol

Yea I know right! When they first started growing the single blades leaves I was wondering what was going on lol! But it’s completely natural for the reveg !

Nice story lol

Good thing to because they can’t be anymore! It’s legal and amazing!

I got these yo-yos off the jungle site for 30$ Canadian pack of 12 and they have double hooks on each line. The tension is really nice on them great support for the colas that they are holding up now! Glad I have them on hand now though cause they are a great little accessory!

There are a number of great cloners on this site who don't cut their fans at all and get roots as fast or faster than anyone else I've seen here, so the reason for cutting the leaves may be more related to making sure you can fit a bunch in a cloner without them overlapping than anything else.
the jungle site
I am absolutely certain we can say Amazon on here. We just can't link to them!
