DrZiggy's Low And Slow Drying: Maximizing Your Harvest

:passitleft:

My method is even simpler. :laughtwo:

* Harvest
* Budwash - spun dry, hang for up to 4 hrs
* Clip into bags (28 gr per bag)
* Into the fridge, bags on their side to increase surface area
* After 3 days gently bounce buds apart
* Leave for two weeks (unless airy buds, then check sooner)
* At 2 weeks stabilize with rice balls and jar up

Sometimes they take a little longer, but before I took the grow down this was a pretty standard process for me.

Hi Chef. Big props to your method and the flow chart is awesome.

Not trying to be negative but your process is a lot different and a little more complex than the way I do it so wanted to mention that for those new to low and slow so they know there are other ways to do it.

Chop, trim up to and leaving sugar leaves on, wash, hang dry for 3-4 hours, take buds off stems (I've left them on too) fill paper bags about 28 grams wet each (depends on size of bag but don't overfill) stack in fridge, gently tumble all bags on days 3 and 6 leaving all bags out of fridge and open for about 15 minutes, back in fridge, check by touch around 10-14 days, if dry enough put in jars with hygrometers for a few hours, if over 72 back in fridge if under 72 keep in jars and burp once or twice per day til in the sweet spot 62-65 and done.

I do really like the chart and one day if it suits me, I may try your method but for now I'll keep doing what ive been doing.

:passitleft:
You know you’re absolutely right. My process is fairly complex, labor intensive, and quite involved. Obviously if you’re happy with the produce you’re creating then by all means continue with what you’re doing! I will say though, that my last harvest, to me, is proof this method is the way to go. I had an LA Cheese plant that was lemon all through the grow, I dried her this way.. and now about 50 days from the chop, the cure has made this kushy/hashy smell come out, while keeping the flavor that of a lemon head candy. Its phenomenal.

To the new home grower, I would follow the chart to a T the first time. See what you think, then tweak based on your own situation and level of laziness.

I actually have a stove now (a whole new house!) So can try the rice ball method.

I like simple!

Sometimes a little extra work is well worth it. Happy to hear how great your method is working! :high-five:

Hi guys & gals, Sue the last we spoke I was contemplating wether to put my harvest in the attic for
The low an slow since the temps have dropped outside to freezing and below and the change in temp (day/night) but has been staying within range.
So I did it, I open bags daily for 15min to exchange air. I probably shouldn’t do that... but old habits
DIY hard. Things seem to b working out well in spite of me. So far anyway, the way it’s progressing
I’ll b jarring them buds in another day or two. Growers Luv

Chef I agree. We all started by following the process as we knew it to the letter, or as close as we could make ourselves adhere to, as Bud demonstrates. :laughtwo: Once we grew confident that our hard work cultivating wasn’t at risk and was only improving we all found our own adaptations to fit our lifestyles and personalities. Like cannabis itself, the process is widely adaptable. We’re always learning new things through this practice of open sharing.

I have to say, I’m always touched with the way this community respects everyone else’s input. I believe it’s what sets us apart from the rest. :meditate:

Your interference won’t hurt anything, but keep in mind that the terpenes are lighter than air. Any disturbance and they float away on the smallest of breezes. The buds have a wealth of terpenes, so I don’t get too concerned. Lol! I mean, we were getting the effects we wanted with our previous methods of drying. Low and slo spoiled us though.

This process does its best, IMHO, when we leave it alone and disturb things as little as possible.

Just a bit over 2,500 posts behind but I am subbed and ready to go... :slide:

:welcome: to the celebration seedlingmtl. :hugs: Please don’t feel you have to read all of that. If you cover the first 10 pages or so you’ll learn that we keep tweaking it and you’d probably get more use out of us by reading at your leisure and engaging us right here and now.

When are you harvesting?

I got through about 100 pages and gave up  I like to read though. I have been given a really good rundown of the process and starting soon.

I plan on harvesting my Black Cherry Punch either this weekend or if it needs a bit more time Christmas day!

If the time is right I will also be pulling a couple Laniakea down close to the same time....but I suspect they might want to go a week or two longer.

Then I have a Lemon Thai Kush that could go another 8 weeks....but hoping she finishes asap. She is a monster and will probably take my whole mini fridge all on her own...so it is kind of a good thing she is lagging behind the others.

I did take a small sample of the Black Cherry Punch and it has been in the fridge for a couple days....I just bought paper bags tonight and thinking of switching up for the jar.

Yes, do bags seedling! You're gonna love this method!

:passitleft:
I have been reading about it long enough.....the rundown Magoo gave me looks easy to follow and totally doable.

I need to get a bigger fridge or two though  I can handle eating take out for a month :p

Expect it to get real smelly The smell is really strong so be prepared

Okie....first question. Is there an ideal temperature/RH% the fridge should be at as a base?
40-50 degrees... Rh doesn’t much matter cause of the temp

@SweetSue yes, it’s important to follow the steps initially so you can learn to feel the buds out. more experienced growers already have the sense of feel on drying buds.

It took me a while, because the buds don’t change in color, and that caught me off guard. Lol! First couple cycles I obsessed. Once we switched to using bags I relaxed and learned that by controlling bud size, keeping the bags to 28 grams each, and laying them on their side to increase surface area all I had to do was pay attention to the temperature.

Oh yeah, I had to train myself to leave them alone. Lol! After I learned that trick I had to set an alarm on my phone calendar, because I’d forget when they were supposed to come out. The process is pretty foolproof.
