DrZiggy's Low And Slow Drying: Maximizing Your Harvest

Whew! Busy over here. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Now that I understand the science behind it, I agree
People resist change. I am embracing it.

Good to hear. We encourage exploration, which often leads to change. Have you learned of cobs yet? :battingeyelashes:

Having dried with this method several times now I know my meds will be safe.

My feelings exactly. :hugs:

just read a very interesting thread that some here might find interesting too.

Interesting.......

Harvested the two gelato og’s today. Total on these is 646g.

The fridge is officially full...and several windows are missing their screens!!

Hahaha! You know you’re a grower when.....

Hi Sctanley007. That is awesome. You had a great harvest.
One thing I know about refrigerators is the sides will get condensation on them if the humidity is high. Try to make the bags not rest against the sides.
Best wishes.

Thank you for this tidbit that often gets overlooked. :hugs:

I finally got to try Low and Slow. It's in the fridge since yesterday. It is a small amount about 75 grams. When I put on the shelf of the fridge it was too low humidity. I ended up putting in the drawer. Much better. Now it's 70ish. The smell is really nice.

And it’ll stay nice. The thrill of discovering low and slo was the subtleties we found in the terpene expressions. We didn’t even know what we were losing by hang-drying because that was the way everyone did it. Lol!

Thanks for posting but I tried reading that and gave up after a few paragraphs. I scrolled down and found this comment which made me laugh!

"I didn't undetstand a thing you just posted, could you rewrite that in 'dumb ass' please."

I hope someone else on here will read that and report back in layman's terms.

:passitleft:

Thanks ween....:passitleft:

I lifted the post and dropped it in Class Notes. I’ll look at it next week when I’m free and see what I can make of it.Giving it a cursory glance I think it might be relevant to what we’re doing with cobs. I’ll let you know when I decipher it. :battingeyelashes:

I have been reading through this thread. It's excellent. I believe in low n slow, cold weather protects all the goodies. Very good thread. Thanks to all of you who have contributed to it.

Why thank you Mike, and welcome to the party. :hugs: We know from personal experience that what you say is true. Low and slo is the preferred method when you want the best the buds have to offer. After a couple harvests it becomes second nature.

We’re all so delightfully spoiled. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Guys..... you make me proud to be working among you. :circle-of-love:

When there isn’t much flower to put in and the fridge is otherwise empty I have put in “ballast.” Gallon jugs filled with water, cans of soda or beer...whatever to take up space and help stabilize the interior atmosphere of the fridge.

This can never be said enough. :hugs:

I absolutely cannot wait to put my whole crop into a fridge :) Except i do not have a fridge large enough :/ Still searching on Cl for a decent one and none looks decent so far lol

Has any one used wine fridge? How that worked out for ya?

If it’ll maintain decent humidity and temperature ranges there’s no reason to expect it wouldn’t work.

We can’t wait to hear of your excitement when you have that first taste of the low and slo buds. :battingeyelashes: Save some to air dry so you can compare. It’ll surprise you how much difference it makes.

Taking the technique and tweeking it to match you amount, efficiency of fridge, etc. is easy. I learned from reading the whole thread that you have to put a little mental plan to change your plan if necessary. Lol

Sounds good!

I've had my first taste of low and slo buds sometime in aug or sept with a test branch that i got from a trimming party. I must say i loved how good the smoke was. It's definitely not the same as those dried on the racks in the room. I've been on a look out for a second hand fridge and most of my search is coming up with a bunch of junks or those that are too expensive. I'd be thrilled to get my hands on a freezer-less fridge to put in the basement. For now it'll have to be a mini fridge / wine cooler and my harvest is just around the corner. Absolutely cannot wait!

I did it. Finally got do some

low and slow. Since the fridge didn't have much weed in there drying, I used the drawer keep the humidity at a good level. Each day I would put the bags on a shelf since the humidity at the shelf was around 40%. After a bit put them back in the drawer. Today the humidity was at 62% and dropping. I jarred that up too.
Everyone have a great week. Remember kindness is contagious. Pass it around.

Low and slow question post wash. I'm on my first grow and harvested 2 of my 5 plants tonight. I did the baking soda/lemon juice wash and buds are currently hanging in the laundry room.

Everything I've read says to hang them for roughly 4 hours before putting into paper bas in the fridge. I'm at the 3 hour mark right now and they are still pretty darned wet though not dripping

. How damp are we talking before I can bag them?

Great job, Booja. If they seem to be too wet, just let them air longer. The relative humidity of the room is a factor for timing the dry time.
The low and slow technique is a guide or outline to follow. Use your own judgement.
You will be fine as long as you use your observations to tweek your experience.
You have made it this far, you can do it.
Best wishes on your drying and curing.

I have some in the fridge been there for 10 days now I will let them go another 5 to 7 days I plan to use them in the Magic Butter Machine. I put DE on them after they started flowering so I am not going to smoke any of it but they should be fine for making butter or oil though

Question: What do some of you use for large containers? Tbh i dont want to reuse mason jars because if i do, i'd end up with like 50 jars and the process would become a pain in the butt.

I was thinking about buying some of those food grade air tight plastic bins. under a quick search on the zon i think it's called vtopmart airtight food grade bpa free 176 oz containers. If there's better products or method instead of using mason jars.... i'd love to know.

Thoughts? Think i will ask this same question in other threads to get some more ideas and see who else is in similar boat as i am.

Thanks!

One member in another thread I was reading said anything Plastic is really bad for your health. Something to consider Maybe find something glass or SS that seals well just my 2 cents worth They also sale Bigger Mason jars but they do cost more
