DrZiggy's Low And Slow Drying: Maximizing Your Harvest

I need to learn how to do this, do you document it anywhere Sue? I thought you need some big press to make oil?

Any infused oil will work, but we're refining a promising oil made on the day of harvest. This stuff is more potent than regular infused. More labor intensive, but we're learning to take the work out of it.

Fresh Harvest Infused Cannabis Oil

I've been testing out my delicious candy, now that it's dried and had a few days jarred up. Candy is a strain that is 75% variations of Skunk. My last grow of it was pretty pathetic. Burnt the hell out of the plant treating it for mites. It still was potent and had a very distinct Skunk nose on it.

This current batch I grew well and I dried it for 3 weeks in jars in the fridge. There's no Skunk anywhere that I can distinguish. It's got a very rich, earthy, herbal smell and taste to it. It's only been a couple of days though. I've noticed with my Zamedelica and Malawi that it took several days closed up on the shelf before the fruit flavors started to come out, so we'll see if that happens here as well.

OK. Racks are done. The fridge was at 39 degrees and 1% RH. I think I am ready to go. :circle-of-love::peace:

I may start my project today

My keg-o-rater hasn't been used in a while...so may pull out the guts, keg, hose, tap and co2, clean and see how it tests out

I have some old dehydrator trays I may use for this fridge...

Fun fun fun

I was burping my jars that I dried recently and discovered that my Malawi had turned. It was growing mold.... At least it was a tiny plant, about half a zip, and it had quite a few immature seeds from my last male as well. But still....😢

I stuck my gage in the candy jar and discovered it was up at 84%! I put it and the Zamedelica back in the fridge with the screen tops on. At least it was the smallest harvest of the three by far, but the Malawi is the best.

Since the first harvest I've been hanging them 24 hours and then trimming them at every junction, instead of leaving colas together. It seems to be more consistent with letting them dry in two weeks in the fridge. That seems to be my baseline to run with.

On a different note, the wife was wanting something with a good stone last night. I rolled up a joint of candy. It was a bit moist, but it's the only indica we have and it smoked ok. I noticed it's starting to develope the Skunk nose on it now.

Finishing up the roach while I'm posting and it's got my nose tingling from the smell. This one's going to be a stinker in about a week.

That was my concern about doing it in jars. I am not sure that the moisture can escape as well. They racks or paper bag method SHOULD keep that from happening IMHO. :circle-of-love::peace:

jars work well..just need a screen or open top, dont crowd the buds, fridge with 'air moving space' :)

the bag appeal is better intact, IMO, with the jars..

bags/racks/drying frames allow way more produce processing(bulk) at a time.

I wil let you know what fits on the racks. I am expecting close to 1lb of fresh bud. What ever doesn't fit on the racks will be put in a bag on the bottom. :circle-of-love::peace:

This is very interesting and makes so much sense

Wait until you try it pennywise. You won't believe the difference. I tested out the CBD Critical Cure I'd harvested previous to my latest harvest, which has been curing now for close to a month, I believe.

It expressed subtle scents and flavors I'd not noticed with harvests dried conventionally, and I had to stop at three hits with a strain having no more than 10% THC value. :laughtwo:

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear we had a casualty. We'll learn to eliminate that possibility. My challenge is in over drying. Maybe set up a schedule of regular checks with a hygrometer after they've come to room temp? I don't know if that would interfer with the desire to keep the monoterpenes intact. Every exposure to warmer air causes evaporation. :hmmmm:

Cutting the buds down to individual blossoms is also what I do, and it seems to work well for faster drying. Other than that it's a matter of patience. This takes longer, and we're all about instant gratification. Lol! All too often we need the meds right now and simply can't afford to wait on it all.

Vaporizers can be helpful in this case. You can smoke damp buds as well as dried. It's the trichomes you're harvesting with a vaporizer. I don't think dryness matters, or at least it doesn't for me. I don't get the same buzz with a vaporizer, but for pain or some other need this works in a pinch.

It's a learning process. I'm just glad I caught it before I lost more. These first ones I didn't cut all the brackets apart, so they are taking a long time to dry. I already have the one I cut the following week jarred up fine. In fact I think it's time to hit some of that and veg for a bit. I'm out.

Nice .. I was experiencing high temps but I decided to stick it out. I'm in an unfinished garage. I decided it's still lower temps than my house so yea.
