DrZiggy's Low And Slow Drying: Maximizing Your Harvest

I have been wadeing through this thread.
( only 39 pages to go whew....)
Anyway
From where I am at I see that you want the refers door to stay closed as much as possible.
Is there any reason folks aren’t useing ( at least I haven’t seen) remote indoor/outdoor Wireless thermo/hydro meters???
Put the sensor in the fridge and the receiver next to the fridge.
No need to open door to check temps and humidity
I use a La Crosse, but one can get cheap ones off the bay or zon....
Just wonering.....

24 hours after entering the dehydrator. Currently sitting jarred at 53%

Chopped her sister today who weighed in at 329g. Bagged w/28oz per and into the fridge. Humidity 45% temp 46.

Tomorrow the last and biggest of the Black indicas. Then two Dutch treats in a few weeks. Probably going to go with the fridge and a bit in the dehydrator for quick use

Well the dehydrator was a total success!!! All jars reading 61-63%.

Culled the last BI today for a total of 862 g of wet bud offstem from three plants. The last two plants are in the fridge whose humidity rose to 51% so we’re on cruise for one week...give each bag a rustle then another week in the bags.

Welcome curious traveler. :hugs: It can get to be a long read, eh? That’s why we don’t stress if you jump in and just ask.

In my world it’s mostly because the system seems to be somewhat foolproof for me. Buds of a certain size take two weeks in the bag and then I use rice balls to stabilize the RH before jarring with Bovedas.

I don’t even check my humidity and temp anymore. If it’s cold enough for my milk and it’s frost-free it’ll work in 2 weeks to a month, no fail.

How easy does that make my life? I’m fairly lazy when you get down to it. I have so many other things to keep track of.

I love what Stan’s doing with the dehydrator. WooHoo Stan! :high-five: I was thinking of pulling mine from storage. What you sacrifice in terpenes you make up for in time. It’s really wonderful to have fresh produce in the jars in 3 days, ready to start using.

Hey Stan! I'm not, sure about the dehydrator method but pretty sure you want to get that rh up to 62. Do you have boveda packs? They will do the trick.

:passitleft:

There’s always more RH in those buds, and if they over-dry simply toss a slice of bread into the jar to rehydrate. When I finish with rice balls I pull the rice when the Rh hits 50% and they usually stabilize somewhere around 62%.

Have a massive harvest impending and a small fridge and suddenly the dehydrator looks mighty attractive.

Stan.....impressed as hell. :bravo:

When I pulled the buds from the dehydrator I got a bit nervous despite having read all the previous posts. The buds were brittle and dry. However, given less than a day they sweated out the internal moisture and rose to 50-52% and I added a Boveda pack and they're right at 62 now.

The basement fridge RH is in the 60's with all the bags in there but am confident that the method will work. One question is whether anyone has had an issue when the refrigerator is in a colder area of the house, my case the basement, with it cycling on and off and thereby removing humidity. With the temp of the fridge set to its highest (46) and the basement being cool I'm not sure how often the air inside circulates.

Couldn’t help myself and took a quick peak this morning. Stunning.

I cannot wait to see the end results.

Is there a need to switch out paper bags if they feel slightly damp or is it ok?

While I’m into week two of low and slow in the fridge I figured I’d share an example of my first plant which used the dehydrator method.

Honestly this method works great despite defying logic. Best is these were dried and jarred within 24 hours. Directly into jars with Bovidas and dead stable at 65.

I can’t imagine what the fridge will be like.

The differences are kinda startling, to be honest. The buds come out of the bags looking freshly-harvested, and more than a few of us have noticed fragrances and flavors we’d never experienced from the plants prior to the low and slo dry.

I don’t hesitate to use the dehydrator when the need arises. Although terpene retention is a priority for medicinal use in my world, it’s not an absolute necessity. There are plenty more of the isomers buried deep within our buds.

Terpenes strongly influence the signaling action of the cannabinoids. Logic dictates that more terpenes translates into better signaling, but reality shows us that cannabis always has enough to do the job. We’re snobs. We want more than “can do the job.” We want the best.

We’re proud obsessive cannabis cultivators, and the pride one feels when you offer a bud dried low and slo is unmatched.

Maybe it’s just me. Lol!

They’ll always feel slightly damp. I have changed them out when I thought dampness was excessive. Trust your instincts.

They look marvelous Stan. :high-five:

Slowly working my way thru this thread with a harvest coming up in a little over 2 weeks and deciding what to do. Has anyone used a wine fridge for this? I think this is the one I have, it would seem pretty good, you set the precise temp to hold at and such, would be easy to see how the buds are coming along without having to open the door since it's glass. I don't have another small fridge so it's a normal tent dry and cure (and maybe a couple cobs to try) or low and slow in the wine fridge.

I don't see why that wine fridge wouldn't work. Maybe throw an rh meter inn there to see where it sits.

Just did my 1st 3 day bounce and took a few pics. they're all of my pupil Magoo which has large golf ball, almost lacrosse but not quite base ball, sized nugs in beautiful purple!
