Hey gals and guys.
Cool thread (pun intended)
My fridge stays at around 25% humidity regardless of the setting I use.
I live in a dry area so my room humidity is around 30%.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be helpful.
I might try putting a wet towel in fridge and have it wick up water.
Thanks
I didn't realized the some Crisper draws have humidity settings until I saw the above photos.
Mine does not have humidity options.
Above quote reposted for Sweet Sue!The fridge will need to have a freezer. The frost is the water that is drawn out of the buds as vapor, and then frozen onto the freezer chamber. That is what brings the humidity down. Then you can defrost it as needed.
My latest thinking about the drying is to loose pack buds with the stems on in bags until the stems are rather dry. Then, bring them up to room temperature and stabilize the RH around 62% when in sealed jars, then back to cold curing in sealed jars.
I was getting condensation in screened jars for more than a week. With bags the drying is more even and faster.
Just checking back in here after almost a year and a half and several cycles of drying this way. I’ll be hard pressed to ever dry another way. Now that I’ve been able to legally share my bud, I always get comments back about the dry and cure job, and the flavour and fragrance. I have a dedicated fridge although I occasionally throw drinks in it too, and they always come out smelling like bud - as in, the can or bottle soaks up the smell just from a couple of hours in there! Something to keep in mind for anyone thinking of doing this with a fridge that isn’t dedicated.

Yeah, looks like it was explained in the first several posts. Additionally, the screen shot in post one is of post #1315 of "DrZiggy's 2nd Journal - ACE Seeds - Doc Buds High Brix Kit - LEDs" journal thread. So you could probably find lots of related information in that thread, methinks.
Boveda also makes a "kit" for calibrating hygrometers . It's a 72% Boveda pak. Same process as above. Around $15 (I think) on the river. Edit: couldn't find this on the river. Boveda has them for $6 and change. Hygrometer CalibrationThe most reliable way to calibrate a hygrometer is the salt test. A cap (like from a gatorade bottle) filled with table salt. Add distilled water until just before it pours over and put that in a zip lock bag with the hygrometer overnight. It should be 75% in the morning.
tb, just picked this up over the weekend. Magic Chef 4.4 cu. ft. Mini Refrigerator in White-HMBR440WE - The Home DepotReally don't want to stink up the fridge (and the whole kitchen) so I was going to buy a small dorm fridge...pretty sure they don't have a freezer. Does this mean I won't be able to go low and slow? Say it ain't so!!
I use a mini fridge with no freezer. I havent tried it any other way but mine takes about 3 weeks to get down to the lower 70s RH. Then in the turkey bag with a rice ball to knock it down a bit more. Then cure. I hear some of you guys saying 2 weeks.....every time I’ve checked my RH at 2 weeks it’s still well in the 90s. So maybe that’s the difference. A little slower dry. Everything has come out super smooth and flavorful so far!Well worth keeping in mind. In a family fridge it’ll flavor everything in there. Butter sucks the terps right up. Lol!
Mike brought it to my attention that Canyon pointed out the necessity for a freezer in the unit being used to get effective drying.
All my fridges had freezers, so missing this post didn’t change my approach. I’m interested in hearing what the rest of you that’ve been drying low and slo have found. Is anyone using a unit without a freezer, and if so, how has it effected your drying?

I am also doing this so I & low for the first time. My Buds also took 3 weeks to dry. Currently in a 1 gal jar burping several times a day. Most of the smell is gone, hope things get better after the cure.I use a mini fridge with no freezer. I havent tried it any other way but mine takes about 3 weeks to get down to the lower 70s RH. My Blue Dream lost most of its pleasant smells during the drying process and it smelled like hay. But during the cure, slowly but surely, I started smelling fruit. And now it will make you light headed when you open a nug jar. Lol. I’ve heard others say this as well and I’ve heard some not lose any smell throughout the process. But either way, it’s all good after the cure. So no worries my friend!I am also doing this so I & low for the first time. My Buds also took 3 weeks to dry.
