Doc's Inspired Help Journal Run By Gazoo - Blueberry In DBHB Kit

Not really part of the journal but just read something very interesting
from a Nov 2014 National Geographic article Titled "Meet Natures MINDSUCKERS"
BY Carl Zimmer

The following is talking about Ladybugs

"A single individual may devour several thousand aphids in a lifetime. To find a victim,
it first waves its antennae to detect chemicals that plants release when they're
under attack by herbivorous insects. Once it has homed in on these signals,
the ladybug switches its sensory scan to search for molecules released only by aphids.
Then it creeps up and strikes, ripping the aphid apart with barbed mandibles."

The rest of the article is kind of creepy, talks about how some insects can control other
insects even when they are killing the host

Yup will start the 12hr soak tomorrow morning, probably around 10am and then drop
into 1st run Kit soil at 10pm.

Will be using the 1 gal square plastic pots, felt pin (sharpie) size diameter Hole, 1/4 inch deep
sprinkled with the roots powder and covered

Soil will NOT be packed only placed in 1 gal pot loosely, filled using a Dixie cup a scoop
at a time. Soil will be only damp not soaked, probably still wet enough from the Bin but
I will make that call when filling the Pots.

Pots placed on Clone Heat Mat set on a 1hr ON / 3hr OFF cycle to help keep the temp
up for germination. They will also be placed under my 400w LED panel on 24/7 until I see
a sprout. Once sprouted I will switch to my 400W MH set on an 16hr ON / 8hr OFF cycle

Doing my best but the schedule needs to be set so everything will be ready when needed

I needed to wait so the Soil will be ready when I up-pot the second plant. I only
had enough for TWO 1 gal plastic pots and ONE 7 Gal plastic pot, Need the soil to
be ready for the SECOND 7 gal pot.

OK....let's get this right from the start!

1. No fancy lighting/photoperiod changes. That stressed the hell out of a young seedling. Germinate under your veg light. Nice and bright. Same photoperiod as your vegged plants. None of this 24/7 to 16/8 stuff. If your veg room is 16/8 just leave it like that and germinate under 16/8, no changes until you bloom.

2. what you're going to see me do with my soil is fill the pot, dip it in water and pour some water down the top to fully moisten the soil. I'm going to make a divet, sprinkle roots, place the seed and cover it up. None of this dixie cup, lightly packed not fully moistened stuff.

As the soil dries out like in a couple days, I'm going to slowly dribble a drop at a time around the seed....not enough to get it "wet" but just to keep a tiny bit of moisture. Wait a couple days and repeat if necessary. I'm talking like a couple tablespoons of water at most.

None of this fancy stuff with photoperiod stress and soil that is going to shift and compact on a young seedling! OK?

Also, next time let's mix up at least half a bale of soil....better yet the entire bale....so you have an even spreading of the amendment. That can be a problem as well.

We're going to have success, precisely because we're not going to do all these crazy details that can and do cause problems.

I have no problem following your directions but since I did not know what that is
yet I thought it best to describe my intentions. I am feeling somewhat offended
by some of this response

It's your choice how you feel Gazoo. Choose to feel confident that Doc only has our best intentions in mind. It's so easy to misinterpret in a digital world.

Be bold, and believe he meant no offense. He wants us to go by the book this time to see what a difference it can make.

I agree with Sweetsue, I think Doc was just saying "lets put the advanced techniques to the side for this one and focus on the basics"

X3. I found docs post helpful and i didnt get the feeling he was talking down to anyone. Its very easy to misinterpret text.

Very helpful thread. Im about to transplant clones into soil in about 1 or 2 weeks. I saw to use transplant but not sure the watering/folier schedule after that. I think ive seen some around in other threads but really looking forward to seeing it done step by step here.

Thank you gazoo, doc, and the very helpful high brixers.

...since I did not know what that is yet I thought it best to describe my intentions.
Yeah Gazoo - I can see how you might've felt a bit put out. You're kind of putting yourself on the line for the benefit of all with this arrangement. And heaps of people are going to appreciate it (already do).

Please keep on doing that - the way you are always describing exactly your intentions, bravely, knowing that Doc may come back with "Oh no! don't do that - do this!" This kind of exchange actually helps a lot.

Unless you & Doc we're working out all your plans by PM, there's inevitably going to be a lot of instances where Doc will need to 'adjust' your approach. And PMs won't help every one else! Stay strong, and know that if Doc criticises an approach or a practice you're proposing (clearly the result of some careful researching and thoughtfulness on your part), then it's not you he is criticising, just the practice (and maybe only in a particular context). Like I said - the set up of the thread does lay you open a bit so, like Sue said you'll have to keep the faith. The more you expose these details the better for all ..

:thumb: I'll be mirroring your grow, I just got seeds this morning. I'm pretty excited:yahoo:,
has any one tried Lambo, Jackie White or Purple mayhem? :woohoo::Namaste:

Well, I'm certainly not trying to offend you. I'm trying to help you.

If I recall, you complained about my product support...said it was "sideways" or something along those lines. So, I'm supporting my product as best I can in your individual case. That's not meant to be offensive at all! I'm trying to fix the bad customer support you experienced by giving the best service I can possibly give, which means I am focused on YOUR journal to the exclusion of almost every other journal.....hoping that others can be helped in the process.

So, what you saw here:

You mentioned a few things you were going to do that raised a huge red caution/danger flag. I'm trying to keep you on the path to success.

How do you think plants respond in nature, when the sun shines 24 hours today and 16 hours tomorrow? Exactly.

So, since we're using nature/biology in this endeavor, we're going to try to keep things close to nature, as much as is practically possible. Changing photoperiod stresses plants. We want plants that aren't stressed.

Ditto the plans you had for the soil.

All those other creative ideas don't sound like good practice to me, so I'm saying something about it. I want this to work.

Well its all good but I feel I am stepping into a bear trap

Our personality's are clashing hard and don't want to bring any negativity
to this great community.

I am sure you meant no harm but really felt I was being talked down to
Don't want to feel that way so its best I learn on my own

Come on gazoo. Have a few puffs with me over behind the bleachers and take a breath. Could be such a great learning experience for you and all the rest of us following. Don't think any harm was meant. Enjoy your night I look forward to this journal

You're about to grow and experience High Brix cannabis! It's special and it's going to be yours.

You'll come out of this knowing how to use the kit, including things I do that I don't talk about much.

It's gonna work. My seeds are ready.....we are doing this! It is going to be awesome and rewarding.

Yes?

Sadly, Gazoo has informed me that he will no longer be updating this journal.

This is a great shame, as he was receiving terrific help and individual support which would be invaluable both for him and others.

We truly hope that Gazoo reconsiders. Just PM me, Gazoo, if you change your mind. You will be warmly welcomed back. :circle-of-love:

Meanwhile, I am moving this journal to Abandoned.

If Gazoo isn't up to it do we have anyone else willing and able to start anew? This was a project we deeply desire to see carried out. I'd hate to see this momentum stop before we really got rolling.

Let's not let this end this abruptly. We had months of learning ahead. Keep it going. We need a volunteer that can set ego aside.

Gazoo, that is NOT a remark made against you. I understand where you come from. No judgement, ok?

Anyone up to the task, if Doc is open to carrying on?

Man how I would love to... but it will be about another 6 weeks or so before I could drop some beans... I know someone else will volunteer... have seen a few say they were gonna drop seeds at the same time as Doc and Gazoo. And you are right SS, we do need to keep this going. It is going to be far too beneficial to everyone, a great contribution to this community, to let it fall away now. Such a bummer to read all this tis morning guys. It really is so easy to misinterpret the typed text, I hope you will come back Gazoo. I was looking forward to your OCD...etail ;) I love all the little details you do... specifically the whole temp sensor IN the soil... just awesome man... comon Gazoo we all have nothing but love for you brother... we need you back.
