Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

You really should bite the bullet and find a bale of Pro-Mix HP.

I've used their retail garden soils from Menards but you have to know what you're doing. The key is that their basic peat is already properly pH balanced with primarily calcium carbonate, so if there isn't any extra stuff in the blend, you can just add some perlite. HP has 27% perlite and their own mycos, but we use our own so they're not that important.

But if you don't use Pro-Mix HP and things go wonky, it'll be hard to know whether it was the soil or not.

As of right now, I can only endorse Promix HP myco, or Sunshine #4 as proper High Brix substrates. use another soil at your own risk!

I can't support what I don't know.....or in the case of many popular potting soils what i do know. Namely that they won't work.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

That's what it's all about brother! We grow the best plant on earth, ever. With a plant that great, let's learn all we can about growing it to its full potential!
i've been growing weed outside for like 45 yrs., and 10 yrs. inside, but only recently have I really tried to learn. I had some decent success, using cow shit compost & native western Ma. dirt. , but always used chemical boosters. Now I'm trying to grow organic. I'm using Coast of Maine's Stonington blend super soil. And top dressing with their 5-2-4 fertilizer. What would you recommend for folair sprays? I'll be in background, hoping some of your knowledge rubs off !!

In the past Doc has mentioned that using foliars without them being made to fit the soil you are using can be risky. The foliars in the kit work so well because they are tailored to the kit soil. When you use foliars in other soils you are kind of playing a guessing game as to the effect they will have. The best thing to do is either not use them, or know going into it that it is an experiment and that results may not be positive. That being said I have seen other growers have good success with foliars and other systems I just cannot recall what they use and with what medium/nute regimen.

@TheGreenYeti is 420% correct! Best recommendation is to switch to the full kit. All components are designed to work in synergy with the proper soil!

KIT/USER GUIDE QUESTION

Please help me clear up some confusion with the new User's Guide...

It shows a weekly application of De-Stress, however, the instructions say not to use De-Stress if there are no problems/issues (other than for faster rooting of clones).

Are people doing weekly applications of De-Stress in veg & flower, even if there are NO issues, or is Brix the only foliar applied when everything is good?

Thank you! :thanks:

A lot of people only use de-stress if there are issues or after they do something stressful to them. Say LSTing them or super cropping or transplanting them.
Yes..Yeti is correct! There is no need to use DeStress when all looks good.I only ise it at this stage in my garden just after transplant , when i am LSTing a lot......after that...unless there are problems....its simply not needed.

Thanks, Brothers! :thanks:

That's exactly what I thought, since all directions said not to use unless the plants were showing signs of stress. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss some "insider trick" that was reflected in the PDF! ;)

If the plants show signs of stress, apply DeStress weekly, as per the User's Guide. If there is no sign of stress, skip it!

What are signs of stress?

In veg, even numbered blades on leaves, distorted leaves, rusty spots, LST'ing, Transplanting, etc.

In bloom, same thing.

I don't use the product too often....just when I transplant mostly.
