Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Ok so I should have said plain water dunk

Here is Doc from the DS thread. At day 25 he did a plain water dunk.
Pure water dunk today.

ANd then folks asked him why...

The reason I went with straight water---which is the usual practice---is because there is good turgor, good growth, lite green petioles and 7 bladed leaves on the second set. In other words, the plant is purring....

If I had some leaf digestion, 3 bladed leaves, purple petioles or poor turgor, I might have opted for another drench, as in Scotia's case, where we went for Transplant, just to make sure the roots don't feel neglected.

This is why I was thinking maybe I do a plain water dunk - but it needs it now! I knew I was pushing it, so a weak TP should be fine - i hope :thumb:
(And i dont have 7 bladed leaves on the second set... so unless, doc is bout and can tell me othewise, I’ll do a TP)

I'm glad you found that. :)

I was going to suggest that your plant looks good enough that I see no "need" for a drench. That's one of the things about this method - more isn't usually much better. This one has a good size/pot ratio, so it shouldn't take too long to dry out again. Then you can do a solid Trans/Tea soak. Any idea when you'll upcan? It might coordinate nicely.

glad you found that. :)
Well it’s been in my memory - I had to go back and find it just now ;)

Plain water dunk it is! I will likely aim to flip at a time that suits the drenching schedule... we’ll see how that goes!

OK, perfect...Amy, Give her a really good drink of 1/4 Transplant ...now.
Highlarious! Different strokes eh... :ganjamon:

Plain ... 1/4 ... same same ... :) ... no big difference. Duggan's right - I'd soak it in 1/4 Trans.

The area that's hollow is where the "pith" would normally be. The pith is the soft, spongy center in the middle of plant stalks where carbon is stored. When the pith starts to disappear, it's called "Pith Autolysis" and it does NOT indicate any real problems with the plant.

What it does indicate is that the plant needed more carbon, so it started to feed on its own carbon reserves.

Some plants are genetically prone to have a hollow pith and other reasons can include plants that are grown in low light conditions, low CO2 conditions, and fast-growing/leggy plants can also be more prone (as @Duggan pointed out!).

So, for example, if the tent is packed with plants, there may not be enough CO2 for all of them because they're all sucking it all out of the air. So, because there's not enough CO2, there's not enough carbon, and because there's not enough carbon, the plant will start feeding on it's own carbon reserves in the pith.

Low light conditions effect the plants ability to photosynthesize, so even if there's enough CO2, they won't be able to break it down, resulting in the same feeding on it's own carbon reserves.

It does not indicate any problems, per se, just a sign that the plant was feeding on its own carbon reserves.
Thanks! Lot's of light...had only three..now two plants with good ventilation. Super rapid growth, which was remarkable! I think that might be it. Thanks everyone for the input! You guys are rockstars! :green_heart:

Nailed it! :high-five::passitleft:

How are you keeping those nodes so tight? Very nice! And I think I see some leaf shine already.

Mixing my first round tonight of my bulk kit!!! Very excited, just a few questions for all you brixers. Do I mix the water in on the tarp with the mixed soil for better mixing? And is it safe to assume I can split up my soil into 2 32oz barrels? Couldn't find any 50 gallon barrels.
Thank you all

Yes and yes! I like mixing my soil right in my 32 gallon totes with my hands but you'll probably get a better mix on the tarp. You gonna start a journal?

Don't forget tho split your amendment into 4 parts trying tho keep the different size pieces "rocks" inn the same proportions per portion. I hope that makes sense but if it doesn't let me know.

Makes perfect sense my friend!!! And yes I will start a journal once the soil is done cooking Also I have well and the water is really clean(just bought the house so I had it tested) I can't figure out how to upload a pic but
PH is 6.9
alkalinity 34
Chloride 8
sodium 25
Hardness 1
Fluoride, iron, copper, lead, arsenic were all barely at a detectable level!!
Think the PH is to high? Or good to run it

Sorry @FutRfarmer and thanks Duggan! I should probably not give advice about something I don't do, I mix right pin the totes, ooops!

Your well water should be good, Doc can confirm but don't concern yourself with ph! You're supposed to take a rake, cut the handle off halfway so the top of it will just reach your groin and every time you think about ph, step on that rake, giving yourself a nice jolt to the old family jewels. the soil does all the work! One of my favorite things about the kit!

Alkalinity at 34 and hardness at 1?

My Alkalinity is over 400.

That water is sweet, as they say. :thumb:

Ya Ween...i was hoping you would jump back in !
Yes .and about the water...best to have any dubious water supply tested...just to be sure.Tap water is a def. No No...unless you get it tested and let it sit out for 10 yrs.(haha) to get rid of all the crap that's in it ..like chlorine and chloromine...our micro herd in our DBHBB soil doesnt do very well with tap water. I use distilled...no worries and its always the same...pure H2O!

Oh no!...Wait Farmer. Dont add any water until you start putting it in the totes! You will just make a friggen mess and the soul does NOT mix as well when wet....way better to mix it all up dry....then add the water and mix again as you layer it into the totes.
Great!!! I'll be mixing tonight so thank you for the recommendation
