Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I went from 1gals to 3gals and then 15 gals at flip. I might do 5gals instead of 3 gals For veg next time around to get bigger plants before flip but honestly they had a super nice rootball ready to explode for flip and I might just stick with 3’s
This is what i am thinking of doing coming up soon. How did the plants come out? Did they get huge? I have flowered in 15s before but I went from the 1s to the 15s and vegged for a bit. I did ok but I am going to try and get them to size in the 3s due to limited veg space.

They are about 5 1/2 ft tall on average a few smaller and a few bigger and that’s including the pot. So the plants are about 5ft or so

Hey CK,

How’s it going? :passitleft:

I’ve always gone from the 1’s to the 15’s, but at harvest they were not root bound at all. If I used the 7’s there would be a great mass of roots at harvest. Again the 15’s could support a much larger plant, and I’m experimenting with where that line is with regards to my space.

Gonna try an outdoor Doc Bud high brix grow this year with some Jalalabad Star beans I got from a friend. Story is they were obtained in Afghanistan by a Russian solder at the end of the Russian occupancy, given to a friend who kept the line going for decades. Suppose to ripen early September, which is great for southern New England.

Take care

What’s up DL! Ya my plants outgrew the 1’s and made me go to 3’s before flip which was good in the end. I could imaging those plants that vegged in 7 gals before flip were huge!

What a story on those beans! I hope that story is accurate because that would mean you’ve got some very rare beans. I’ve always wanted to acquire beans with a cool story like that but so far just buying them haha. And on top of that some Kit action outdoors! Man that is going to be super dank I’ll have to look for that journal when it’s ready! I hope to one day run some kit stuff outside but for now I’m stuck indoors...

Hey, all! I've been away for about a year and about to start a grow with Doc's kit but have a few hundred pages to catch up on in the journal! :D

Is this still the recommended feeding schedule for Veg?:

Growth Energy + Tea
Water + 1/4 Strength Transplant
Transplant + Tea
Water + 1/4 Strength Transplant
Repeat

Also, what's the latest recommended schedule for flower? Cat drench still at 24 days?

Thanks for the help & Happy Harvests!

K

Hey Krip! You've got the feed schedule right except you want to start with transplant and alternate from there. You may want to check out this thread, Darkscotia Apprentices Doc Bud - Passion#1 Perfect Sun COB/8COB Citizen K

I picked up a bunch of stuff even after running the kit for about 2 years. In veg when dunking I learned tho fe feed heavier that I had been. When the plants start to get root bound and are drinking every day or two then you can double down on the drenches. I liked getting darks feed schedule because even though mine varied a bit, it was pretty close. At one point he hope upped the drench from 30 to 45 our maybe ever 60ml but thatwas because he used more water in the bucket.

Cats on average are about 24 days but can be earlier pot later. I've recently been doing them late but may go back tho doing them earlier because I didn't see the same results as Stage or others doping them late.

Welcome to the Brix crew! I'm sure everyone will stop over to your journal soon.

Yep. I'd just begin with transplant. Remember to double up on the concentration in veg if you're dunking.

Take a look at the Dark Scotia Apprentice thread to see what it looks like.

Thanks, Doc. Yeah, I'm already 20 pages into the DSA thread after WMO turned me onto it.

OK, so schedule will be:

Transplant + Tea
Water + 1/4 Strength Transplant
Growth Energy + Tea
Water + 1/4 Strength Transplant
Repeat

So, that schedule stays the same through flower with the CAT drenches added into the schedule at (two) specific times along with the GE drenches?

Assuming that's correct, it seems one CAT is at 24 days. When's the 2nd?

I'm still trying to get my head around this (same as it took some time to get my head around a 3-part nute schedule!) and I think I'm pretty close! ;)

Thanks, as always, for the help!

The Cat y drench is done twice in a row, with no water in between. Shoot for week 3 of 12/12 or so for the first one.

Go ahead and due a strong Transplant drench upon transplanting and start the cycle of alternating drenches like that.

Post your journal and a helpful collection of mis-fits and ne'er-do-well's will be glad to help you out! Please post a link here or PM me a link so I can follow along as well. I don't always comment, but if you see me "like" something, especially advice from a HB expert, it means I agree!

Hey Doc... in the instructions, unless I have the wrong ones, says to water in after transplant with 1/4 strength Tp Drench... did you change this? Wish I woulda know two weeks ago if so.

Thanks, Doc! It's actually going to happen in my current/previous journal (in my sig):

Tales From The Krip!

The new grow starts on Page 31

I'm getting ready to change it.....so many people are growing crazy crosses and the like, we need to emphasize those roots. It's just a small thing to help....not super critical.
Good to know, I bet my (maybe purple) Panama woulda loved that right after transplant... I mean she's happy, but she'd have been super happy!

Ace's Panama is a very vigorous strain. I don't think it will suffer from missing it.
Thanks Morglie! Yes I don’t think she’ll suffer either... but I can imagine maybe more shine... even more vigor.. but she’s doing very well I’ll be posting some pics later today or tomorrow. She’s taking her time pushing pistils...

Hey Dopy. Looking great! I have questions about the tomato cages but see you have a journal so am heaving over.

I'm back, I see that journal is completed. I'm planning on using cages when I transplant. Is it safe to assume that I should install them when I transplant. make the "divot" add the cage then put the plants in is how I imagine it will happen. Otherwise, it seems like it would be a major PITA, Hi Major! Also, how tall are those cages? I see some stalks are outside the cage, did you do that from the get go or as they got too big? Mine are pretty big already, maybe close to 3ft.

Hi Ween!

Yes that journal is complete, I’m not sure why it doesn’t say complete after the title?

The cages are standard tomato cages, 36” tall. So 12” sinks into the soil and 24” is above the soil. The plant in the photo is 36” tall above the pot.

The best way is to install the cage early, but I always seem to do it later, when I flip and the plants are large. I just gently wrap that green foam covered wire to wrap around the whole plant to keep all the branches pointing up, just like they wrap up a Christmas tree before you throw it on top of your car.

Then the cage slides right over, I untie the foam covered wire. As I’m sliding the cage down I pay attention to the branches and where I want them to stick out of the cage, to keep the plant open, plenty of light penetration, and air flow.

This plant is big for my space, so I the use those wire ties to tie the outer branches to the cage so when the buds get heavy they won’t flip over, works great.

I got this from seeing Doc use it, and this is my third grow using them.

I imagine you could get pretty creative how you train the branches to the cage.

Take care Ween!
