Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Or ... What if the one you run to replace it was the keeper, and you wouldn't have run it if you hadn't traded the other one away? :hmmmm:

Having too many seeds makes life a bit too complicated for a stoner. Who needs the aggravation, eh? I have 5 open spots and a good 50+ strains to choose from, so ... that's what, 5 years? ... if I don't buy anything new for another 5 years ... :hmmm: ... And they'll be over 5 years old by then ... and trading doesn't even help - you end up with another new strain to run sometime, somewhere, someday.

First world problems, eh? The world of the hobby cannabis grower. *sigh*

I do know a GUARANTEED way to tell if a seed is still good but its
a little hard to grow them after the test :)

Edit: Think Pop Corn

I have a similar amount of strains to run. I have been trying to change out strains fairly often now. I have a bunch of single fem seeds from a few years ago I have yet to run but need to at some point. I have a Jamaican Dream I got after following your journal and just havent had the chance/I always find something more enticing to run :laughtwo:

I have the same problem.....perhaps thousands of seeds....definitely hundreds.

when I find something good, I grow it for several cycles until:

1. People don't want it
2. I get frustrated with it because it simply won't do what I think it should do
3. I find something better to replace it.

I've always got 2-4 "regulars" in the rotation, and 1-2 "new" strains. Some new strains get grown once or twice and then abandoned for the next big thing. When I get a keeper, I try to put it rotation.

right now, I'm desperately seeking a replacement for Grape Ape. People love it, looks pretty.....but damn! Isn't there another purple strain out there?

At this point in time, my "regulars" are: Lemon Paki, Grape Ape, Chocorilla. "new" strains are: syzurrp, Black Cherry Float, Hazelnut Cream.

Syzzurp doesn't look promising....despite insane resin and kinda purple....it's not Grape Ape. Black Cherry Float has "keeper" written all over it, but I haven't harvested anything yet.....hazelnut cream is also very, very promising to fill a spot.

I'm also looking for a very strong Indica (not necessarily purple) so I'll be popping a few new seeds after the canoe trip.

That is sort of where I am at with it. I am looking for something as purple as your Grape Ape but also looking for extremely potent stand out smoke. I have a 9# Hammer going right now and have high hopes. I know cannabis cups arent always a measure of how good anything is, but the hammer won first place best indica at the high times cup in Michigan last year. I have heard really good things about it and for a while it was nearly impossible to find.

I typically keep everything around for at least two rounds. Mostly because I usually cannot tell how well it will go before it is done flowering. Things are definitel;y staying in my garden for less time than before. I got complacent at one point and kept mediocre strains around for too long. At this point if something is not cutting it then it gets dropped. There is always another seed to pop.

The kit's sitting on my table for about a week barking at me every time I passed by... I finally got all the bits and the time to get the soil mixed ;)
I had to do it at 4 in the morning so I could avoid meeting people in the basement, while running around with a breath mask on and a watering pail :)
The temperature down there is pretty stable throughout the year, maybe a bit on the cold side, but I'll know when I check the thermometer tomorrow.

This is what went in:

100L Pindstrup SÃ¥ -og Priklemuld (peat moss)
~30L Perlite
~15 kg Earthworm castings (Los Ridella)
1 bag of First Run
17L RO water

Hey gang, I have a Slurricane from In house going right now and it is THE frostiest strain i have ever run, or even seen in real life. I figured I would drop a couple of pictures here. She is a couple of days shy of 8 weeks and keeps piling on the frost! :)

Left my mouth watering! Did not think I could get more excited about popping my newly acquired slurricane beans. So thank you for that.

Along with the slurricanes I got these Noah's Ark freebies( Jesus OG x Animal Cookies) going on day 58 post flip. I was hoping to get some opinions from the pros.

So these are supposed to run 7-9 weeks. Buds are dense and heavy with a good amount of pistils changing color. But I keep seeing new white pistils coming in with some foxtailing.
Almost no amber trichomes but I know Doc says his almost never turn amber before harvest. I'm leaning towards letting them maybe another week as I don't see any fade at all. Just wondering what you guys think. Thanks in advance and for all the help this great group of people provides to us lucky enough to find ourselves here.

If you don't see amber, let 'em run. :cheesygrinsmiley:

:thumb:

And it wouldn't hurt at all to go heavy on Growth drench now.

Thanks. Yea that's the way I'm leaning. I got a little bit of the ge drench from my first kit with the new formula sitting just waiting to be used so I'll probably just finish the bottle to finish up this run .

Well done sir! You should have about 50-60 US gallons of soil, give or take. I can't tell, but it looks like you might have less than that. If so, simply cut in some fresh peat moss.

Your careful attention to detail is excellent! Good things are on the way.

I think I am starting to see that "BRIX WAX SHINE" On a few leafs :)

Nice Gazoo, that shine is coming on!

Now you make me wanna show Noel, mostly because this white widow is a far better plant than the last ones. And she's had a nice sheen to her most of her life so far. I'm very excited... if you can't tell.

This pic is before I topped her.

Thanks bud! That is some nice looking buddage you have going on. I have 3 Noah's Arks I am yet to run. I think it was Pennywise that said he ran it and loved it. Or maybe Imtoasted. Most everything runs a little long in the kit. I typically wait until most if not all pistils have turned and they slow their drinking down before I take them.

I noticed that also, takes a little longer. I watched the Trichomes and used that as my harvest gauge on the first out of the soil.

Had the distinct pleasure of visiting Doc yesterday and spending some time with creme-de-la-creme cannabis...

I gotta tell you folks--the attention paid to his environment really shows :thedoubletake: --not a yellowed or spotted leaf could be found, but connoisseur cannabis did abound...

After a nice tour and a chat, he was kind enough to send me on my way with a smile, some paki, Grape Ape and Blue Kush...hot damn! RoorRip

Now THAT's a Wednesday. :)

Cheers gang, and enjoy that Canoe trip for me! Two weeks and counting...:yahoo:

P.S. Doc--The key-lime aromas you're somehow bringing out of that Hazelnut Creme are *INSANE*....Just out of this world Doc! Thanks again for the goodies.

I'm liking what she's shown me so far. The smells coming from her are really impressive.

Definitely going to let her run a little longer as she is definitely still chugging water.
Happy growing to all the brix community

Thanks for the input, and well spotted on the amount of soil - it's a 210L barrel so it should be almost full, gonna chuck in another bag of peat moss and a dash of perlite ;)

Hey gang, been busier than a one-legged dude in an ass kicking contest! The garden has been chugging along. This run I've hit my keeper, Headband OG with heavy doses of Doc's gear. This round I ran 7 gal pots instead of the 15s for lack of space. She's received 3 super drenches, 2 Cats, 5 pure h20 drinks, 5 heavy TP drenches, and 6 Heavy GE drenches! She is at 60 days pf and needs a drink/ drench every 3 days. The last 4 drenches have all been GE, and she loves it, never seen her continue to bulk up like this....usually I would have chopped a few days ago but trichomes are almost all cloudy. Tonight might be the night. Third run soil too. Never seen her turn purple either. Strong OG citrus aroma.

Doc's kit is very flexible, and the beauty of running one strain over and over is comparing results with previous runs.
