Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Used 30lb bag of 1-1-0 or maybe it was 1-0-0.

It's gotta be the lighting then...my bad! I didn't notice the sweat earlier either. Itll do fantastic! In case you're wondering, ive been using the docs kit for almost 4 years :)

Ok, I think we should be good. I added a half gallon ro to each tub. After turning it its pretty moist. It dont all brush off hands and wrists like it did straight from the bale. When I first put the soil together I added 2 gallons to be each of the 2 tubs. I think its good now. Thanks all.

If you have some trim, toss it on top and check it every couple days. It's a great indicator of biolife - it'll go all fuzzy and decompose right in front of your eyes. When my cycled bins get to cooking strongly, they'll eat up an entire plant's harvest trim in like a week. :thedoubletake: It's kinda scary ... jus' ... wrong, y'know? I half expect the bins to bulge and jiggle a little when I'm not watching them. And mine exhale in my face when I open them, like a ghost with warm sweet breath.

Ill have to do that. Very cool! Ive never done a 100% organic grow and had that kind of life in my soil. That will be fun to see happen. What about a few mostly dry leafs I cut off my current grow a few days ago? Would that be ok?

Btw. I turned my flash off on my phone camera and I think that made a big difference in the appearance of the soil. In real life it is still darker than it shows in the picture though.

I'm throwing this out to the community as I know Doc is off playing (LOL!) Getting ready to harvest and have a question regarding timing.

I'm familiar with gauging the "doneness" of the Trichomes and have generally used the "mostly cloudy" method as to when to harvest. I've also familiar with Doc's more recent practice of looking for "pistilate cessation", "reduced water consumption", "reduced calyx swelling", etc.

The other issue - and this seems to be a HB thing - is that everything I have runs over the breeders time frame. For example, I'm running a 100% Afghani which is listed as "49" days. I'm currently at day 63 (from 12/12) and it's pumping out new white pistils like I've never seen before! My MoneyMaker (56-60) again, at 63 days is slowing down, but still a lot of new pistils.

I've recently read that rather than taking the breeders no. of days from switching from 12/12 to not begin counting the days until sex is definite and flowers actually begin forming. Anyone follow this method?

I know our girls, like a fine wine, finish in their own time, but just curious as to how everyone else handles this and if anyone has any suggestions. Thx.

I count flowering days or weeks from when there are actual buds - not from when I flip. It adds about two weeks.

Mornin Medman,...ya with your timing Q bud....one method that ALWAYS works is to forget the breeders times , they rarely are correct, especially if you use Doc's gear. Gland heads don't always turn amber with this method either. A foolproof method is to wait until most of the pistils have turned golden, and have receeded back to the calyx. They will still fire out the odd new pistil , but if ya just wait for most of them to recede back your ALWAYS golden. Cheers my good brotha,... have an awesome day!:circle-of-love::Namaste:

I still do flowering times by the flip date. It helps when you try and relate growing times between different plants as some are slow starters and I use the flowering from flip to help calculate which ones to put together. Although this year I have been pheno hunting a breeders stable so I have been mixing long and short flowering plants. And if I didn't do it by flip I feel like I would be dis honoring my name

I go by the first appearance of amber, or at least all cloudy. Or in the case of one twister last grow, the top bud just keeled over and dried lol. I was like Oh! Guess it's time to harvest!

I started flowering from seed with 11/13 light/dark. :thumb:
When you have a DeLorean all that matters is what strain you enjoyed tomorrow or will enjoy yesterday in HB soil.

Ya...you just wanna take it out again...don't ya! I know your type....just remember...I converted it to run on coffee cups, so plan your trip around that! And all you guys stop messin around too much with the past...it's creating all kinds of issues.....my "bad" neighbor has shrunk to half his normal size......muhaha! :bravo::high-five::thumb:

Maja', thanks. Not to get to anal, but how do you define "actual buds"? First pistils, first multiple sets of pistils, or Doc's "bud set" ie, ready for a Cat drench?

Not when I see pistils - even multiples, but I consider it flowering before Doc's "bud set".
This is just my take on it and what I use to count down the weeks. Something like the photo below, when the plants have defined "top knots". I think I counted the first day of bloom two or three days earlier. One week before this photo there were no blooms to be found. It happens in just a few days.
