Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Good thought, however, been there done that! My current GR dehumid. is about 20 years old. Works well, but puts off a lot of heat. Bought a new 50 pt dehumid. with digital controls thinking it would be more efficient, less heat, etc. Not. So, the new dehumid sits in the main part of the basement, set at 50%. The old (manual) dehumid. is in the grow room. Between the two of them, I can keep the humidity where I want it, but with a unit in the GR there's too much heat.

We live on a peninsular with water on three sides, about 300' from the water. The whole area is sand and the water table is around 12'. We have never had water in the basement, but waters levels are high this year and the basement is quite damp. Normally, temp runs 60-65 in the basement, but with the dehumid. running so much it's in the lower 70s. Even when the A/C runs. That's part of the problem.

Lower 70's is too hot? My basement stays between 68-71deg F. and I was told to try and raise my temps

Just found this thread :) only another 400 pages to read :thumb:

I am also working on High Brix (these are 15% Brix Reading) My current grow
is even better

Welcome! What gorgeous plants you have.

Feel free to participate on the thread like an old pro, which you obviously are.

Gov, to start, I do not have a HVAC vent in this room. The main basement does, but not this room. I do have an approx. 9" X 18" rectangular duct that moves heat and A/C to a room we added on a few years ago. Maybe I could cut a hole in it to bring heat and, more importantly, A/C into the room. Hadn't thought about this until you mention the 'inline booster' (we've done this for the upstairs bedrooms so I know what you're talking about). I'm not a HVAC guy so I don't know if adding a vent as I described would mess things up (in the new room). The duct runs the length of the house (40 some feet) and exits into a two 8-9" round pipes which feeds heat/ac into the new(er) 14' X 24' room. Maybe I could steal a little bit of A/C, eh?

Thanks for the advice!

Hey mmm, I know neikodog is a licensed heatimg and cooling guy, he could help out on adding ducts to HVAC.....

I don't care one bit if a woman uses the urinal next to me. And I don't care if it's a man, who used to be a woman, or any other combination of gender identity. Don't pee on my leg, don't stare at me, I'll treat you the same way....all is well.

:Namaste:

Bravo. I actually try to pee outside when at home so technically I am sharing the bathroom with everyone. I just like the breeze I guess.

I have an A/C outside the grow. May add a dehumidifier as well though I am running 82F and 60%. The plants love that temp/humidity combo. During Cat they really transpire! I have a filtered Inlet from the cool basement and a filtered exit right in front of the A/C. I guess I am lucky to get the extra cooling from the ground around my basement. Yesterday was the hottest day in 3 years and my grow held steady at 82F. It's my preferred temperature. Will get a dedicated dehumidifier for late flower though that will be in August so I may not need it. Things are dry as a bone here in August.

We're going through a heat wave at the moment in New England. Been in the 90s over a week. I gave been monitoring the temp in my room in the basement. Hi 82° low 77°.

Pretty incredible considering when I grew in my bedroom closet it was almost impossible. I had a fan in there just moving around hot air and a vent in the ceiling that went to the attic. I can't believe I was able to get 4oz or if that closet.

A tank of Co2 and some way of controlling PPM of C02 will put you right in the zone of perfection. 82 is IDEAL with 60% humidity and C02. No wonder your plants look so nice.

Thanks Doc! I am to be a worthy pupil. The next step is to move beyond just reflectix and black plastic. I am going to completely seal the grow. I have pressure treated 2x4s and foam insulation. I will have matched intakes and exhaust into the grow. My basement is sealed but I would have to run CO2 for a 20 X 35' space. I guess that means CO2 generator instead of tanks. Well.. I did recently switch back to charcoal so I have some extra tanks lying around. What Co2 generator do you trust?

I have no personal knowledge of CO2 generators, so I'll let Doc make the recommendation, but I believe some run on Natural Gas and others use Liquid Propane, so the recommendation may be dependent on the availability of natural gas in your area. ;)

You refer to the extra tanks...were you looking to specifically run propane?

That is what I ran before when I added co2. A green air products co2 gen with a 70lb LP tank. I didn't even know they had natural gas ones though it makes sense.
