Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

In the 3rd pic down a couple of nodes look like they where super cropped, as far as I know you don't use this practice, what caused the swollen knuckle at the node closest to the cam and just opposite also looks like it is swollen
I wanted to speak to this Highpotanoose. I have 3 plants growing right now, about a month out on all three. One is very small, maybe 18"-24" in height. They other two are much taller, about twice the height. Both of the taller plants have a large, swollen knuckle where the other nodes come off the main stem. Not sure why, but it's there on mine.

Hello Doc Bud,

I've been reading your journals for a few months now, and I'm very interested in giving your kit a go! Have grown previously in super soil, but I'm very excited to see the improvements I can make with High Brix. I'm a new member of the forum, so I can't message. If you could PM me with info on how to move forward ordering a kit from you, I would appreciate it.

Thanks again and keep up the good work using science to push nature to its limits!

Robin

Today, veg plants were pruned, cloned and dunked.

I took 4 gallons of water, added 3 mils Tea and 1 oz Growth Energy. Put 2 gallons of that into two buckets and dunked the plants 2 at a time, one in each bucket. There was about 2 gallons of feed water left over, which I am saving for tomorrow, since it's Growth Energy and won't bloom like Cat or Transplant will.

Again, Pruning in veg to get the proper shape so they can go into bloom.

Next pics are all before and after so you can see what I'm doing with the pruning:

Here's an example of something NOT to clone. Notice the 3 and 4 bladed leaves. This isn't cloning material.

Here's one that's good

Here's how I trim those up to make clones

Doc, great couple posts, the eye candy is given but theres just a ton of value here with just a few notes of "what I did here".

Sorry if I missed it, but can you be specific about where you pluck clones from and what you look for to make that decision? (it looks like you aren't scared to top alot[i mean like take a big top off, i typically do a fimming sort of top, but only cuz its what i know], do you like to take off those tops, for example?)

[fwiw: last time I took clones of 3 strains, 2 of them took at almost 100% success while the other yielded one out of about 20 attempts. I'm sure it was a strain specific situation, the one in question is certain a hybrid mutant of the nth tier, but I'd like to eliminate the guesswork. I usually end up with taller ones and I don't like that, yours are cute and little and green]

The elevated level of explanation (in pics AND written word) is greatly appreciated Doc. I know it's not your "default" style, but I point people here all the time, especially when I don't have personal pics or circumstances relevant to their questions at the time.

Keep up the quest for excellence my friend.

Take clones from as low as possible on the plant. There is a minimum bar:

1. woody, stiff stem
2. 5 or more bladed leaves, no "evens" no three bladed.
3. The lower on the plant the better.
4. take all leaves off except the topmost, and trim that tiny fan leaf by cutting off half the leaf tips
5. Clonex, put 'em in plugs being careful not to bend or buckle the tiny stem.

Roots in 5 days.

Topping: I do it to shape the plant. I make sure the the apical branches left after the topping all have 5-7 bladed leaves. I wait until this is the case before topping mostly.

If there are no lower branches, a week prior to topping I'll supercrop the dominant branch to stimulate the lowers .

Thanks bro!

lol...I have a small container with ONLY Laniakea sugar leaves. No boveda in there though. It smells good, but I'm sure they're brittle as the sycamore leaves in my yard at this point. I really don't smoke anything anymore, so have been reluctant to stuff them in a cone and twist it...but I will

Hey doc....after rooting and transplanting to a 1 gallon bout how long does your vegging clones veg for? Another question.....when smoking the sugar leaves how do you smoke them? Let them completely dry out or do you jar them up before they are brittle?

Thanks man.....I think I got some sugar leaves worth smoking this time....lol.:high-five:

The clones are going to live in those 1 gallon pots for 3-6 weeks, depending. Perhaps 20% of them are culled as they outgrow the 1 gallon pots before I have space for them in bloom. Pruning and good root soaking is the key.

I treat sugar leaves exactly like I treat flowers. Put them in a jar and let them cure. I roll joints with them. 90% of what I smoke is sugar leaf.

Hey....sorry for the slou of questions had a short day and been in the garden.....lol, hey after the 1/4 transplant when you put the clones in 1 gallons.....how mature or big do you let them get before you start with the GE and trans drenches(dunks) and are they just as strong as if they where being dunked right before flip?...I know brix foliar is around 5 growth nodes......thanks doc:passitleft:

Hey doc I'm mixing up a half bale of promix, and I have about 3 gallons of some first run soil with a rootball and some roots mixed in left over from my current run,(when I opened up the tote which hadn't been open for a few months I couldn't believe the condensation everywhere) anyway can I just throw that soil in with my fresh cooking soil?

I've been doing exactly that for a year or longer. I believe it helps "tune" the biota in the new batch. And, typically, second run soil is more bio-active than first run. Seems like win/win. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Yep. toss it in.

I let them go dry and soak usually twice before I start feeding the soil. Full strength drenches always, which means double for dunks, as half of it won't be used.

Hey Doc, at what point do you start feeding epsom salts and how frequently do you use them after that ?
