Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Unreal as always

I notice that your stems are always very green and have a magnificent sheen to them mine get real, for lack of a better word, barky and more brown, also keep in mind I was under feeding slightly due to my misinterpitation but my plants were pretty healthy just not way up in brix

I assume this is achieved when Brix levels come up or is it a trait of your strains?

:Namaste:

Thanks! This was a very, very good run.

Yes, the stems should be super green, almost glowing, and the leaves should be waxy, shiny and reflective. These are signs of high brix.

It's a combination of factors that leads to this:

1. environment: temps, humidity, lighting.
2. soil
3. feeding, timing of drenches/foliars
4. Strain selection.

As you've heard me say many times, some strains do better than others in this soil. I tend to keep those that perform well and toss those that don't. Believe me, just because some new hydro strain gets hyped up by some rapper doesn't mean I go out and grow it! If it comes my way I might try it, but I generally get far better results with "heirloom" strains.

An unknown strain with a name like "Paki" will far outshine some new cross of 4 different OG's and Cherry Pie in High Brix soil. The pure, landrace strains are the best, and some hybrids are also fantastic....the trick is to find them.

So, I don't grow a popular name.....I try to grow strains that do well in living soil and feature root systems that thrive on Minerals, Myco and Magic.

Heirloom tomatos grow far better in high brix soil than the modern hybrids that are bred to fit into shipping boxes. Some of the latter taste like bags of water, while a good heirloom has flavor that is largely forgotten by people who haven't had them. Older people remember that "this is what food used to taste like!" While younger folks say, "These are the best tomatos I've ever had!".

Same with weed.

Environment
Soil/feeding
Strain selection...............In that order. That's how you do it.

If the strain doesn't grow well, get rid of it and find something that outperforms. Pretty soon everything you grow is like magic when you do that.

If you just gotta have Cookies or Skywalker/psycho/OG crossed with Cherry Pie, back crossed with Fire OG with the best hydro pheno chosen.....then go to your hydro buddies! You'll get over it pretty fast once you experience the nuance, variety and novelty of a High Brix strain.

I just ran out of my own product and had to return to the dispensary for the first time since mid August.

I shopped hard to find a good one with good herbs but...LOL

Its enough to make me just take a break almost.

Hey Doc and gang. It appears I have a small spider mite infestation on my Wonder Woman clone. What can eradicate the pesky fellows? Neem oil? I do have some organic bug killer that I had for some tomato plants, would that work? Or is there something special we use for high brix grows? Thanks all.

It is called Captain Jack's Deadbug brew and the active ingredient is Spinosad.

Depending on how bad the infestation is, you can often control them by mixing up the foliar sprays a bit light and soaking the bottoms of the leaves. I'll get the sprayer right under the leaf and physically blast the bastards off the plant. I've almost always got mites in the room, but they don't usually cause a problem. Sometimes I'll see some webbing usually on a lower fan leaf. That's when I do a super heavy foliar spraying, every 3 days.

For severe problems:

I like a product called "Take Down" which is pyrethrin based. We have had horses until recently and would have to spray them for flies at certain times and we used a product the vet recommended......pyrethrin. It's safe and can be sprayed up to the day of harvest...not that I would ever do such a thing.

Spray 'em super heavy. If it's a clone, mix up the solution in a cup and submerge the clone in the solution.

Other products that work well and are safe are Azamax and Azatrol.

Doc, I have noticed changes in the terpenes WA10X from week to week on the strains Ive grown before. I am in bigger pots this run, so that may contribute to different terps too.
Have you noticed changes in the Colombian or Grape Ape since using it?

Does your produce smell and taste the same or very close each time you grow the same strains?

Different runs of soil produce variations on a theme.

Looking to get assurance that I am understanding this correctly:

1 oz. Transplant per gallon of water with 6 mils of Tea. Feed a solution with this composition to all the plants. It will re-colonize the roots and get things back on track. Do not do this if you aren't having any problems.

So if my plant takes two gallons of water I use 2 ounces of Trans and 12 mils of tea per plant?

I don't know if it helps or not, but I always bubble my drench bucket for 10 mins or so minimum. I suppose I figure it helps the tea "wake up" and gets O2 into the soil with water as the carrier.

Yep. But you'll be in a large container if it takes 2 gallons, right? My 7 gallon pots usually do fine with a gallon, half in the saucer, half slowly down the top.

But yes, that's the rescue drench!

because of my screeename!! :) I havent done it. theoretical stuff..so i take it its not a good idea to try.. :)

I wrecked a Lemon Paki crop adding Epsom salts.
However, I've had some very interesting success adding Blood Meal to a couple plants! 8-0-0 blood meal. Try adding a bit of things that don't have potassium and see what happens.

Compost is loaded with K....we know what will happen.

Look how ugly my PPP is. At the same time...this is the ONE for the kit compared to everything I've used. All we need to do is dial back the excitement and give these guys a ton of water next time. Despite the burns, they took the most remarkable change with the Cat drenches, including my last MK run.

These crazy colas are not super dense, can see they will also fit the "poor bag appeal" of the best DBHB shit around. Smell is Peppery Bubblegum? Hard to tell as they have a good month left while the BD and Sour Tangie they are next to are still overpowering.

Yes, 1/2 oz per quart is full strength on De Stress.....so 1/4 oz is half strength.

Was reading the directions on my containers of De Stress I just received and notice they read 1oz to a quart of water

Are these just left over labels/containers with new strength in them?

Should I be mixing these at the new ratio of 1/2oz to a quart

Thanks

:Namaste:

the DeStress is to be used at rate 1/2 oz DeStress* /Qt H2O, Brix is still 1 oz Brix/1qt H2O ..

*When spraying Destress on clones, the new DeStress is now used at 1/4 oz DeStress/1Qt H2O :)
