Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc, How long after do you currently run your grows after bud set before you harvest them? Do the same strains ripen at similar times?

The window for harvest is roughly the same for each strain each time it is grown.....unless I do something radically different in the soil, which I haven't done in a while. Small changes produce some phenotypical differences. For example, here's Paki with the OG drench and without at about the same time frame:

But nothing really finishes faster by more than a few days. Most of my stuff runs 10-12 weeks from flip, depending on the strain. I don't have anything that finished under 60 days.....

Doc, TY..thats amazing that just slight differences of a few minerals, one gets a different plant...
anything goes; makes it grow, it seems

Hmm, an unlimited amount of phenotypes based on small feeding changes. I guess botanicare has their own phenos, fox farm has their own, organic has its own, ect.

Interesting thought I guess.

The changes seem small, but in a soil that is highly reactive to small things, they can have a big effect.

For example, Cat Drench isn't much different in NPK than Transplant.....in fact Cat Drench is about 90% Transplant and 10% other stuff....and yet it has a profound effect on the plants because of the Cationic form of nitrogen, along with the phosphates and sulfates...both cations.

In the case of the OG drench, it is the addition of potassium that makes a difference.....just a small amount according to NPK thinking, but enough to change the terpene profile so that anyone's nose can detect it, and also enough to weaken the stems to the point of the whole plant flops over....while an identical clone sans OG Drench is standing up straight with no support right next to it....

Most soils are overloaded with every form of nitrogen, every form of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and massive amounts of organic matter....small changes don't accomplish anything in soils like that!

But my soil won't grow a crop without microbial participation, and the subtle changes made with a single drench signal the MICROBES to behave differently. Similar things are done with foliar sprays....but you knew all that!

Killer. Thank god your not in that no till stuff those sticky ass buds would be covered in gnats and other potential pests.

Bud washing Dutty. There's a reason we do it. You can cut the no-till bashing any time now, thank you.

Beautiful plants Doc.

I have my first confirmed female of Colombian Red. I may have hit the mother lode....as this is the first plant to clearly show sex AND it's female. In a few more days I should have the rest sorted out.

It will be cloned and labeled, along with the other females and then I'll put them in bloom and hunt for a good pheno. Landrace, legendary sativas.......I am so stoked!

From his second grow ever.....he's a very fast learner!

And to add to that, take a look at my white widow nug, freshly trimmed! This nug came off that first plant I've ever harvested. Doc Bud's High Brix/PlatinumLED winning combo. This plant was in a 10 Gallon pot, and yielded 159 grams. Poorly trained honestly. Moving forward we will be flowering in 25 gallon smart pots atop individual SWICK boxes constructed of double boxed, double thick corrugated cardboard. You guys should see the size of the girl that's about to enter flower. It's gonna yield a pound. Confident!

Peace everyone! I'm so very, very happy. Even with my plants leaves all upset and kinda ugly, my girl still gave be over a quarter pound of this, plus 4 ounces of small nugs and trim.

That's your first harvest ever? OMG. You're cheating.

All I did was follow your directions! With this kit, these lights, and the SWICK system make for easy work to harvest something that looks that good. And it's not just looks, that nug smells like a full blown sativa, but it's white widow! The jar, when opened, literally makes the room smell like a smoothie store. The reveals to close friends have gone like this.

1. I hand them the half gallon mass jar
2. They shine their iPhone flashlight to inspect
3. EYES WIDENING
4. Spin that lid off and take a sniffy snif
5. JAW, FLOORING
6. "Oh, my, God..."

That's how it's been going since that plant came down lol. It burns to a clean white ash, and gets ya baked. Real baked...

Doc, if you were to recommend a starting point in the study of your HB approach, what would it be? I need to begin looking beneath the surface.

Yup. Welcome to the world of High Brix...where the weed snobs gather to toke. We know something....don't we?

Well, Dr. Reams carried on from Dr. Albrecht, and Dr. Skow learned under both but took Dr. Ream's work further.....and the distilled knowledge of all of them can be found in several places, but I've found that the Lab I rep for has about the best, most consistent products and research of anywhere.

They routinely, daily take all kinds of soils and bring them around via minerals and microbes, to be high brix soils. The soil science is settled for the most part, the quest now is for better ingredients.
\
I'll PM you the name of the lab, but they're in a non-legal state and do NOT appreciate having their name plastered on a weed forum. They are who I work with. They design all my products and give me advice, etc.

Oh....and if someone thinks they can go directly to the lab and get things....they can. But they'll not save a single penny by doing so, as I sell all their products for the same prices they do, PLUS I can give product support for our favorite crop, while they cannot.

Check your PM's.

Great Job!!! Jamba, you kicked butt!

Thanks Doc. I've started reading. Fascinating stuff. I'm already beginning to understand it better. It immediately made me think of my theory that a healthy human body operates at a particular harmonic level. Someday we're going to figure out how to adjust those tones. This is the same type of thing, adjusting the energy (the 'tone') of the soil to achieve a particular response, with the end goal being nutrient density.

I think I'm off to a good start now.

In the situation you describe, I'd give a generous dose of Calcium Nitrate. Next feeding all fishy ferts/bloom ferts, etc.

Hmm I gave compost tea + inoculant + lactobacillus acidophilus + volcanic rock powder, but one day before she started catching up on lush green. Definitely effect of quick rootbuilding. Will take Brix after the weekend and we'll see :) Thx :passitleft:

Bud washing is a must. Sue you still consider your soil no till? Just curious I'd say no. Also in the term living organic soil it's right there good or bad your inviting living organisms into your environment bugs and all. I'm not bashing just stating facts.

And bud washing will not remove all gnats if you have excellent large buds. I can document that I got a buddy harvesting now with a gnat problem and tomorrow I teach him to wash. They all won't go away. But the better part will.
