re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures
Doc, you think its possible that the hydrostrains were genetically changed, different phenos manifest, by constantly growing in hydro to grow better in hydro? Would the same hybrid strains grown HB from the origin of the strain behave differently?
It's pretty simple....
growers chose strains that yielded well and grew indoors, under lights (due to prohibition) enter Indica, byebye Sativa
Growers then chose methods that maximized grams per watt....which means hydro, because you can get more plants under the light because they don't need a huge rootball in a big pot of dirt.
Now, along comes the miracle hydro strains....namely the OG/Chemdawg family, which smells great, tastes great, yields well, and grows FANTASTIC in hydro. They keep growing these as long as market conditions dictate.
Definitley different Pheno's will come out....but it's more a matter of people making rational decisions based on economics. A kick ass strain that can be densely grown with a trellis, flood/drain style is sure a lot easier than lugging dirt, mixing, re-mixing etc.
However, now the market is changing and there are more people with evolved palates out there....and while the OG is still greatly desired, it's not the only game in town.
Analogy: I remember well when a Mexican restaurant would brag: "We use Cuervo Gold in our Cadillac Margarita!" LOL! If you're using Clase Azul get back to me!
So, it basically came down to choosing a strain that would make the most money in a stealth grow....and hydro fits the bill. These strains became popular and they still are.
Now, lots of folks think my Lemon Paki is a totally awesome version of OG that smells more and is stronger......but it's not. It's probably a distant relative of OG on the Pakistan side, but it has flavors that OG will never have.
On the other hand, OG has a flavor that nothing else has too.....
