Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc

For your BP coffee do you use Bulletproof executive supplies or do you get locally sourced supplies? My stomach bothers me when I use coconut oil so I was thinking of going to mtc oil instead.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I've been following and reading a few high brix kit journals and one thing I can say is they all have healthy frosty plants. Different growers different lighting systems and even different geographical locations but the common denomination is high brix and the result is high quality buds across the board.

As for my question.

Is there any way to do high brix on a smaller scale? I can only grow 1 to 2 plants at a time so a bail of pro mix would probably last me the rest of my natural life and there's not much room to spare in the big city.

I only grow two decent sized flowering plants at a time. If you cut the amendment in half and use most of one of the 2.2 bales that they sell at lowes or home depot its a good amount to grow out 2 or 3 plants through completion.

Very easy :thumb:

Thanks for the feedback on the pro-mix last year they had it all year round but now it seems to be sold out in all store in the city :/ Amazon here I come.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Ok, I will try to follow instructions by the book but I can´t guarantee that I´m not going to experiment and tweak things a bit. I mean of 4 potted clones I may tweak things a little with 1 of em. Not on dosage or timing of aplications, but surely I will keep an eye on soil life once I get acces to the microscope in the lab, and will for sure experiment with the AACT I´ve been using. Again it does not add minerals or nutes, nor humic acids or stuff, just thriving microbial colonies, which can be modified depending on which kind of microbe you want to enhance.

Daytime T° range from 73 to 85F with RH going from 45% to 55%. Nightime T° go from 57 to 54F, I´ve problems controling RH at night which is usually above 60% up to 70%, once I get the new extractor (this week probably) I hope I will be able to take care of that.

One more time, just to be sure. I rinse the peat (it will expand?), measure pH, adjust pH with limestone, measure total volume (60 gal), then add perlite, ammendment and rootzone? Is this the order I should follow?

I'm using promix and have kind of the same question above. As of tomorrow I officially will be cooking for a week. After reading some more of this thread I feel like I'm missing a few things. I've mixed up promix, organic worm castings 20lbs, and amendment (the entire bag) should I be adding some root zone? What else? Thanks so much for the help. Oh! and no perlite should I add some of that also? Thanks.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Docs instructions. Add perlite with promix bx.

So, how does all this work together?

Upon acquiring the Promix HP myco, the worm castings and enough plastic barrels to contain 60 gallons of soil:

Carefully and thoroughly mix the following:

Amendment
Promix
Worm castings.

Place the above dry mix into barrels and water with 3-5 gallons of water. Stir it, mix it, turn it over....and let it sit covered for one month. Temps must be no lower than 62 degrees and no higher than 85 degrees. Lower temps can take another week to "cook" while higher temps might be ready sooner. 1 month is usually spot on.

Once the soil has cooked, it's now time to plant!

It sounds like he was maybe making his own "pro-mix". There is nothing you need to do if using pro-mix hp other then mix in the amendment, worm castings and water, close up the bins for a month and wait. It will feel like you are missing things the entire way through the grow this system is VERY EASY to use so its normal to feel like you should be doing more. Thats how you know your using it right :thumb:

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I do it like this:

Take 3.8 cu ft bale of Promix Hp Myko, add 40 pounds of Wiggle Worm EWC and add the bag marked "Amendment".....I mix it all together, add water and let it sit in plastic trash cans for a month or more.

Then, I pretty much do what my directions say to do on most plants.....like these Grape Apes and Purple Cadillacs. I don't add AACT or other products....just the stuff in my kit. That's when I need it to come out right, every time. Following the directions will get you this:

Most of the pics you guys see are of plants I'm experimenting on. Right now I'm testing out a new drench. Some of the plants below received it, some did not. What is included in my kit is the BEST PRACTICE as we know it. That's what 75% of my garden runs on....by the book.

Flowering plants are always sexy, but I really dig checking out vegging plants at different stages. Is that little willie from seed? It doesn't look like a clone.

It's a clone. Gonna be real easy to shape for bloom. My new strategy with the WN is to grow a "teen mom," take several cuttings, compost the "mom" and flower the very small cuttings, keeping another one around to be the next "teen mom." Might have to go through 3 or 4 generations of cuttings to get the next flower candidate......21 weeks in the bloomrooom last time.

plants look GREAT!!!:cheertwo:

Thanks!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

That lemon paki looking exceptionally happy and shiny. Any initial thoughts on the drench?

The new drench blooms in the bottle.....which makes it useless.....unless you want to create a disgusting smell that the post office won't be happy about.

Curso is also testing the raw materials, so I'm waiting to see what he has to say. So far, it looks promising.

I'm questioning the need for it today....which doesn't mean tomorrow I won't try even harder to make it work....it's just folks would be so much better off choosing heirloom/landrace strains and not dealing with this issue. Even before the new Roots! product, landrace strains had no mag issues.

I haven't added anything to the current grow, and its very healthy.....it's just the damn hydro strains!

Here's an article that gets into the genetic diversity of MJ.

Diversity Analysis in Cannabis sativa Based on Large-Scale Development of Expressed Sequence Tag-Derived Simple Sequence Repeat Markers

Cannabis sativa L. is an important economic plant for the production of food, fiber, oils, and intoxicants. However, lack of sufficient simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers has limited the development of cannabis genetic research. Here, large-scale development of expressed sequence tag simple sequence repeat (EST-SSR) markers was performed to obtain more informative genetic markers, and to assess genetic diversity in cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.). Based on the cannabis transcriptome, 4,577 SSRs were identified from 3,624 ESTs. From there, a total of 3,442 complementary primer pairs were designed as SSR markers. Among these markers, trinucleotide repeat motifs (50.99%) were the most abundant, followed by hexanucleotide (25.13%), dinucleotide (16.34%), tetranucloetide (3.8%), and pentanucleotide (3.74%) repeat motifs, respectively. The AAG/CTT trinucleotide repeat (17.96%) was the most abundant motif detected in the SSRs. One hundred and seventeen EST-SSR markers were randomly selected to evaluate primer quality in 24 cannabis varieties. Among these 117 markers, 108 (92.31%) were successfully amplified and 87 (74.36%) were polymorphic. Forty-five polymorphic primer pairs were selected to evaluate genetic diversity and relatedness among the 115 cannabis genotypes. The results showed that 115 varieties could be divided into 4 groups primarily based on geography: Northern China, Europe, Central China, and Southern China. Moreover, the coefficient of similarity when comparing cannabis from Northern China with the European group cannabis was higher than that when comparing with cannabis from the other two groups, owing to a similar climate. This study outlines the first large-scale development of SSR markers for cannabis. These data may serve as a foundation for the development of genetic linkage, quantitative trait loci mapping, and marker-assisted breeding of cannabis.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc, you think its possible that the hydrostrains were genetically changed, different phenos manifest, by constantly growing in hydro to grow better in hydro? Would the same hybrid strains grown HB from the origin of the strain behave differently?

It's pretty simple....

growers chose strains that yielded well and grew indoors, under lights (due to prohibition) enter Indica, byebye Sativa

Growers then chose methods that maximized grams per watt....which means hydro, because you can get more plants under the light because they don't need a huge rootball in a big pot of dirt.

Now, along comes the miracle hydro strains....namely the OG/Chemdawg family, which smells great, tastes great, yields well, and grows FANTASTIC in hydro. They keep growing these as long as market conditions dictate.

Definitley different Pheno's will come out....but it's more a matter of people making rational decisions based on economics. A kick ass strain that can be densely grown with a trellis, flood/drain style is sure a lot easier than lugging dirt, mixing, re-mixing etc.

However, now the market is changing and there are more people with evolved palates out there....and while the OG is still greatly desired, it's not the only game in town.

Analogy: I remember well when a Mexican restaurant would brag: "We use Cuervo Gold in our Cadillac Margarita!" LOL! If you're using Clase Azul get back to me!

So, it basically came down to choosing a strain that would make the most money in a stealth grow....and hydro fits the bill. These strains became popular and they still are.

Now, lots of folks think my Lemon Paki is a totally awesome version of OG that smells more and is stronger......but it's not. It's probably a distant relative of OG on the Pakistan side, but it has flavors that OG will never have.

On the other hand, OG has a flavor that nothing else has too.....

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I think I have experienced these magical unmolested sativas twice in my 20+ years of smoking. The first time our friend called and said we had to come try something. We each took one bong rip and were destroyed for 3-4 hours. We got completely lost on a 4 block trip home for an hour or so in the very small town we lived our entire lives in. Then we sat around for a few hours giggling like school girls out of control. We could of bought the ounce for like 8 or 900 dollars but at the time we could of got a pound for less then that of the normal brick weed we were used to so we turned it down. 4 hours later when we came to our senses we called him and were like we will take it! But it was already gone :(

I would love to get a hold of a strain like that, even if it took 6 months to flower it would be worth every day of the wait!

I remember when I was maybe 15 or 16....taking my first bong hit. I went in 50/50 on a "lid" of Colombian Gold with an older kid. He took the buds, I got the leaf....but he gave me a hit out of a bong of the buds......

Top of my head started crawling, back of the neck felt like oil running down.....oh my....was I ever high.

I'd need to take a month off to get that again, but I have a couple strains that can do it, and THAT's what I'm all about. The noble weed that gets you high.....not the dank stuff that gets you stoned.

That dedication is a difference-maker Doc. I've had some weed that just bends your brain into a pretzel, but I'm intrigued of late on a few reeferman strains...to the point I'm already dreamin about them. I know, silly. One day I hope to share a spliff with you man. :joint:
