Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Beautiful plastic plants, Doc. Did you use one of those new 3-D printers?

Seriously...your plants look incredible...a mark for all of us to aspire toward...

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hey doc and gang, I was wondering what your thoughts are on optimum humidity. I read a lot saying ~50% is ideal so I was dumping gallons and gallons of water in my humidifier everyday trying to keep it that high in the middle of the desert. A few weeks ago I got lazy and stopped and haven't noticed any bad effect other then I "might" need to keep my lights a couple inches higher then I did when I had it running. I am really pushing the limits of how close you can keep them though and I started them lower sooner then I did last grow so I am not sure if its really the humidity that made me raise them but it seems plausible. Right now I run very steady 36-38% with the lights on and 40-41 when there off. I do need to water a little more often now but their posture actually seems to be better since the humidity dropped.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

Also I read that your roots has some mag in it. Is it a sufficient amount that a light top dress of roots could replace needing to add epsom salts if you end up with a slight mag deficiency?

38% is low....but not too low for growth.....just too low for optimal growth.

The plant will be under constant stress with Rh that low. Brix will suffer...but the plant will still grow.

Generally speaking, cannabis likes rH between 50 and 60.....with some tropical strains liking it even higher. I pump a gallon or two of water into the air of my grow room every single day.

On Edit:

Sorry I forgot to address the Roots! question. The strains that require "salts" at this time still need Epsoms.......but I haven't added any to my current grow, as I'm not growing any salt lovers at present.

Curso, myself and another grower are testing a new drench (early stages, not ready to ship) that is designed for the salt lovers.

However, I highly recommend finding and growing strains that like High Brix as they will come out better than the salt lovers, regardless of supplementation.

Cannabis genetics need to be preserved, protected and restored. The prohibition strains have a few star players---namely the OG/Chemdawg line----but compared to more pure, ancient genetics grown in High Brix, they don't shine quite as brightly as they once did.

It's more rewarding in my opinion, to grow strains that do really well, while dabbling here and there with projects, like the salt lovers, etc.

Most strains won't require adding anything additional. Those few that do, will often need Epsoms and stronger drenches.

I'm workin' on it.

I'm honestly excited and very much looking forward to doing more pure strains and have my short-list of strains I want to try. Some are uncommon, but available, while a few are almost mythical at this point. It's getting harder to find some of those low-yielding spindly-legged wonders like Doc and Conradino have, but I'm looking.

If you dedicate yourself to growing every crop better than the last, it won't be long until these strains find you. You won't have to look hard to find them.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Amen!! A great coach once told me "be happy with the win but find a way to improve" the best thing anyone has ever said to me in my life.

It's very true. There are people out there looking for the best....be it baking, massage, software design, home construction, surgery.....doesn't matter. There is always a market for the best.

Of course, there's also a huge "discount" market for those so inclined....but this market is HUGE and has a lot of competition....competition based mostly on price.

Not so in the "top shelf" market. The competition is far, far less....because by definition only the top 1% of anything can be considered The Best. If you grow the best, you don't have much competition! As the person who grows the best, you now have followers.....not competitors!

Screw marketing, "deal making," political influence, "connections" and all that. Grow the best. Period. That means next grow is better than last grow every single time.

Don't choose the method that yields the most, or the one you're "comfortable" with, or the one that you know.....choose the method that produces the best product and show ZERO LOYALTY to anything but quality....but when you find quality learn as much as you possibly can and then do better.

I currently have 3 businesses, each of which is profitable, none of which I've spent a nickel of money advertising or marketing. Of course, I've spent most of my time and much of my energy learning to improve and be the best....but instead of making me tired, it only energizes me and gets me in shape to do better next time.

Grow every crop, BBQ every steak, paint every picture, play every song, do everything better than the last and it won't be long until "opportunity" starts standing in line for a chance to work with you.

My dad told me, "Excellence opens doors." It's true.

Thanks, at first it seemed like they liked it but as time went on I started noticing things like my tips drying out more then usual and needing to raise my lights that I figured was mostly due to the RH so I thought I would ask. Its already back up to ~50% no need to stress them out for no reason :thumb:

Maybe in cali, here even though we have med cards and its technically legal the laws are a mess and it's still very frowned upon by most people. If you need to maintain a corporate job you really need to keep it hush hush. Literally the only people that see my buds other then my wife is you guys and gals on here. I think its the biggest crock of shit that I can sit at work on legal herion all day and no one can say a word but if they found out I used medical marijuana even in my off hours I could be fired on the spot. :(

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

So lowes no longer has pro-mix in my area, not sure if its a seasonal thing or what. Any ideas on where else to get it, I found it on amazon but it has a 35 dollar shipping fee :/

Thanks!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I've been following and reading a few high brix kit journals and one thing I can say is they all have healthy frosty plants. Different growers different lighting systems and even different geographical locations but the common denomination is high brix and the result is high quality buds across the board.

As for my question.

Is there any way to do high brix on a smaller scale? I can only grow 1 to 2 plants at a time so a bail of pro mix would probably last me the rest of my natural life and there's not much room to spare in the big city.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Nine44...Yes to your question. Alot of the growers on here only grow a small no. of plants, including myself. Just follow directions on "the kit" and save the soil you don't use, making sure it stays moist a little. It doesn't go "bad" .Alot of us use those common plastic tote bins to save our different "runs" of soil untill we need them. Doc's gear is a breeze to use and the results will please you,we're all sure of that. Welcome aboard if you decide to go this H.B. method! Cheers!

No problem at all. And Lowes often has 2.2 cubic foot bales on sale, same with Home dePot.

High Brix=HIgh Quality. That's the whole point of it! It's perfect for a small personal grow, but be careful if you share it! You'll have demands for more and next thing you know you'll be growing 6 plants....legally of course.
