Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Amy, they weren't always that way but seemed to move in that direction as they progressed. It could be my hard water that I stopped using for foliars, and I actually figured out half way through the grow that my Brix mixture was weaker than recommended. But I do recall some users with very green but warped leaves that Doc stated was overuse of Brix?

What convinced me is that rather than coating those leaves, it seemed more fruitful to target where you spray. This actually results in using less foliar spray, and leaves got their color back in one afternoon.

As for the dryness, we're actually going through spring drought, it didn't rain for over two weeks! It's strange to see the RH dip under 50%, that maybe the cause of the dry leaves.

You may force me to grow two plants side by side, one under and another top sprayed. :)
Now you’ve said it!

Would the foliar sitting on top of the leaves not burn them potentially? Or is this just something an indoor grower would have to deal with? Or am I totally wrong? Lol

You know, weenmeoff, I wish I had taken photos before I started spraying topside three days ago. I'm not sure if these show much, but they were almost yellow then.

Another thing, and this was actually more concerning, the flowers seem to be stalled and starting to have that amber look prematurely. Now the calyxes are starting to hydrate and swell again.

I was concerned about that, but my leaves were already looking ragged so I took a chance and started spraying....often. They seem to handle it better than bottom spraying to me, but then again, I don't know how much of it is environmental.

But try it. Choose one branch and spray just the small area of top of the leaf, not the whole thing, like you're filling a tiny cup where leaf meets petiole. It seems to handle it much better than when I bottom spray.

Tomorrow will be 30 days cook time for new kit soil and it still looks just like the day I watered in. About 1 week ago, I buryed a couple leaves about two inches deep and today, they appear just as when I put them in. The sides of the 18 gal tubs, never heated up, and I saw no perspiration on lid or sides. Just want to get this right. Temps on average is about 75 F days, and probably 67f nights. the bins are on 2d floor so no problem with being on cold surface. My question is, should I continue the cook or transplant into it now ??

How wet is the soil? I found that it's better to go a little on the wet side. If it doesn't leave a smear on my hand when I plunge it into the bin, then it needs more water.

If your leaves didn't decompose, then you know the bioactivity is low, but the soil itself should be fine if you're in a hurry. If not, then make sure it's nice and wet, toss a few more leaves in there and come back in a week. My guess is that things will look a lot better.

Otherwise, I've always been able to use my soil no matter what. Once you pot something into it with a dusting of Roots and wet down the pot, the roots and biota always hook up within a week or so.

Hey y'all! Just a quick back step to foliars again, here is a photo that better explains what I mean by nature's design.

Below are three autoflowers I sprayed downwards, spraying edges of the buds hitting sugar leaves in circular motion and moving down. Most buds are sheltered from direct contact with water (as I presume nature intended) excess water drips down to the nodes below. Don't saturate, just wet I'm spraying both Brix and Destress less at a time but more frequently. We'll know how it goes in a couple weeks.

Hey does anyone else have trouble loading attachment pics? Often when i click on one to see it full size, only part of the image loads. This have to anyone else ever? :hmmmm:

I did see some nice shine on a leaf brixgirl :). It’ll be great to see how they respond with this approach.

The autoflowers were grown as test, oddly enough, they aren't much faster than my other plants in high-Brix, they seemed to be taking their sweet time finishing, but they grew much bigger than I'm used to in 3 gallon pots. They aren't very pretty, they have almost "weedy" look to them, except for the Fast Buds Zkittlez, that's some pungent bubble gum smell that fills a room like no other I've grown (yet) .

Here's a Black Triangle that I let grow naturally single cola. It's liking the new foliar method, it's putting out more pistils.

Yes this happens to me as well. If there are multiple pics it’s just the one I click on that is a partial image. I can scroll to the next and it’s ok but if I go back to the first it’s still only half.

Question for you all. Last grow my soil was second run soil. I ended up only using 30 gallons worth soil somehow for six seven gallon pots. Anyways i have ten gallons of second run soil i am currently using to start my third HB grow in one gallon pots. So now ii am ready to mix the thirty gallons of soil as third run soil. I have the minerals and ewc to mix and cook but need to know how much ewc to use this run. Got thirty gallons of soil and thirty pounds of ewc, how much ewc should I add in thirty gallons of soil to cook as third run soil?

Ok that’s enough to check in with the mods about it. What device does it happen to you on Magoo? (Phone? Tablet? Computer?) Cheers :Namaste:

Thanks for the get back graytail. I gave each container about 1/2 gal water, sprinkled on top of each container and buried a couple more leaves, and we'll check for activity in a few. Thanks again for the get back !! We are in no rush, and I'd like to see evidence of microbial activity, before moving on. :smokin2:

I have seen my soil do a better job of eating leaves if I leave them on top of the soil and if I sprinkle soom Roots! powder on top of them. Whenever I bury them, even when dusted with Roots!, they do not seem to get eaten nearly as well.

Hey guys I was wondering how many gallons of soil does the first run ammendment stuff reammend? I know it does a kits worth but I got sunshine mix #4 so thts only a 3.0 cu bale but it expands to like 6.0 so I think it was right 45 to 50 gallons of soil atleast from what I could find online anyway. But jus wanted to make sure that was right for one and also how much soil can I reammend with this 1st run ammendment bag I got?
