Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hi Doc, A vaca to somewhere warm - priceless! We're getting our first snow (W. MI). Nothing serious, but low 30s don't go well with the arthritis! Good thing I've got some great HB meds. :ganjamon:

Ok, slight problem. No worries if you can't get right back - I'm sure some of the Doc-wannabes :slide: will chime in.

Issue with my White Widows: Six week veg. Day 22 of flower. 7 gal pot, second run soil. (All other strains are in same soil - no problems) Had earlier problems with WW in veg. where they went flat, started yellowing, etc. Did a Rescue Drench which helped, but they really needed up canning as they were root bound. Transplanting and another rescue and they were back on track. However, a couple of weeks later they started devouring fan leaves. (see pics) There's no pattern, ie top to bottom, bottom to top - the leaves just shrivel up. Environment is pretty good (see attached graph). Lights are currently 11/13 as I have a number of long flowering Sativas. Plants had a Recharge a week ago along with a Tbsp of Epsons on top, watered in with ¼ Tp. Leaves are still dying. Growth seems very slow. They're about due for a CAT drench but I'd like to get this issue straightened out first. Needing water, two days ago I flushed with straight H2O to try to reset them. Now wondering what would be the next best step?

In the first pic, note the dark "burned"? spots on the leaves. The second pic shows how the leaves are dying/drying up. In the third pic note the difference in the two plants. Both WW, but the one on the left isn't effected....

Hi MM,

A couple of questions:

Is it one plant or more? You stated “they” a bunch of times, so it sounds like more than one, but in the third pic there is a healthy WW, next to the burnt one. Next question, are these WW all clones, meaning the same plant genetically?

Just stopping by to show off a nice bud of high brix Donkey Punch right before she got the chop!

I would say she came out pretty nice this last round!

Hey bud! I know your busy and considering a journal after hunting season. Sure would be nice to see fairly regular updates with all these amazing strains your rocking! Just saying, ha!

DL, Yes, there are three WWs. The first two pics are the two with the dying leaves. Yes, it is a healthy WW next to one which is not. All from seed - no clones. The seeds are (were) 2-3 years old. A few grows back I ran WW and a found a couple/three seeds in a couple of plants. It's possible that some/all of these plants came from those seeds. Not sure this is pertinent, but...

Reason I ask is, since they are from seed, it could be some of the ones that are burnt have inefficient roots, or some other genetic factor going wrong. Like you said they are all in the same soil, same room, same everything.

When I see that in my garden with plants from new seeds, I grow them out, but clone only the best of the bunch, showing no problems.

One other thing worth noting is mixing the soil. I found that initially I was not mixing the soil enough, and would find “balls” of EWC in a pot of a sick plant. I now mix, smash, and water my soil in a kitty pool looking thing, before I cool in a barrel. I’m not saying this is the problem or was mine, but more to be skeptical of everything you do as a potential culprit.

Take care

My gut tells me the roots and the soil aren't connecting properly. I've grown WW a few times (all from the same source) and have experienced periodic problems with half yellow(ing) - split along the center line - of the leaves, horizontal curved leaflet tips, slow growth, etc. I won't mention the source, but I don't believe this outfits breeds their own, and they don't identify the source of their seeds.

I also wondered about the "mix" of the soil. Someone suggested I might have too much organic material in the soil. I did put a lot of leaves in the soil over time, but anything not digested completely was removed during planting/transplanting, etc. I, also use a kiddie pool to mix the soil. I spread out the Pro mix, chop it up with a garden hoe, layer the EWC on top, sprinkle on some roots and then mix up everything. Using the hoe, I mix in one direction, then mix in a perpendicular direction, paying particular attention to breaking up all clumps. I then add two gallons of water, mix in a perpendicular/90º direction to the second mix, add two-three more gal. of water and mix again at a 90º angle from the previous direction. Pretty sure it's mixed well. Appreciate your ideas!

Yes, yes i know bud. Only a couple more weeks before that will slow down and then I will hopefully have time to get it done. :)

Yeah sounds like how I mix the soil...thoroughly. I also cut down on the amount of leaves and EWC I add on 2nd and 3rd cooks, to keep the organic content below Docs suggested 8%. I now only add 20 lbs EWC each time and none on the 3rd cook.

The seed source is huge. If the breeders don’t do their due diligence, then there is no consistency to the quality of seed.

I agree, those roots are not hooking up with the soil, and it might not be the soil’s fault.

Hey guys i had a quick question or 2 about the kit or well more the plants done in the kit then the actual kit itself lol. But yea i was wondering if i should include my highbrix girls on my weekly ipm?

Here is the ingredients in my ipm.
1: monterey garden spray with spinosad.
2:ful-power by bioag its humic acid.
3: sometimes neem oil if needed.
For my normal girls done with synthetic nutes i adgjust the ph to 6.2 but when i was doing los growing i didnt touch the ph so wondering if i shud use it on my high brix plants an if so shud i or shud i not adjust the ph? Thanx any1 for helpn me out i really appreciate it.
Oh also b4 i forget with the clones and seedlings it says after 5 nodes start with the veg calendar in the lil pamphlet tht comes with the kit. Well i was wondering for my clones does it mean after 5 new nodes show up or if mine had 3 nodes when i put it in now with two new nodes would they be fine to start the veg calendar or shud i wait? They are 13 days old if tht helps thanx again every1 namaste.

Ok so figured id post it here as well. But im guna be trying an auto with the kit an see how it goes. Im guna be doing a gorilla glue #4 auto. Usually its to humid around here to grow it. An since the buds get so big i can never let it go long enuf to finish cause of bud rot. But its winter now an the humidity has dropped significantly so ima give it a shot wit the kit.
