Hey all, new to the thread. Legalization round the corner here, got my first LED + 20 mixed seeds from peak seeds on the way + will be ordering docs kit soon. Did the research, it easily makes the most sense in many ways. I will post pics along the way as well!

Few questions... How long does one kit last, approximately, when reusing the soil all 4 times? Say I'm doing 2 veg/2 flower cycle, I think that's all I will be able to manage well w/ 4' daylights + 600w meizhi (suggestions here anyone?), maybe only 1 flowering even, I can't see fitting 2 healthy plants comfortable ina 2.5x2.5 or 3x3 tent. May have a whole room available though, but the 600w will not cover the area.

How important is PH when going this route? I seem to think if the soil/plants are healthy then PH becomes much less of an issue. It's not something I ever worry about in the backyard garden for example. Can I get away w/ distilled or just tap water, or should I jsut bite the bullet and get a PH kit and ph up/down etc?

Anything else I might be forgetting?

- Soil + castings + kit
- 2.5x2.5 or 3x3 tent (would you recommend this over growing in the open, in a room?)
- fans
- 600w meizhi LED light (flower)
- 4ft shop light 2x daylight bulbs (veg)
- PH gear?
- thermometer/humidity monitor?

My next big purchase will be a better light, or at least another one for more power to go around. Can do up to 8 plants legally at a time here between 2 of us but I think I can maximize my output/quality doing 1-2 plants in flower for now..

Thanks all, great info here!

Bahah yea.. My studies into permaculture some yrs ago made me figure as much, which is good. Ain't no PH meters or up/down formulas in the forest and they all do pretty well for themselves.

Water is different though, tap water I can see being an issue because of the chlorine/fluoride or other contaminants that could hinder microbial activity. Thanks for the reply!

I use distilled water and yes it's a pita hauling all that water from store home, however I looked into purchasing RO system. My concern there was waste, you will loose so much water to make a little RO water. Plus it was very expensive.
Welcome Cherries Jubilee to the Hi Brix group, hang around and you can see some fine produce turned out by all these brixers...... :peace:

Welcome CJ! You're going to love growing with the Kit! No ph has been answered but I'll come in that it is one of my favorite things about the kit, I did one synth bottled nute grow and hated that part! If you have not purchased tents yet, consider 4x4s and do 4 plants in 10 gallon pots or 15's which is what I use but you'll need a bulk kit, I recommend that if you can swing it, the basic kit may run short of trans drench. If you can get your open room light proof then by all means do that. If your only doing 2 plants at a time, the kit soil will last quite some time, depends on the size of your pots. The kit will make 42 gallons of soil, so 6 #7's, 4 #10's, 3 #15's etc.....

Let us know when you start a journal and we'll follow along and help! Congrats!

I was going to purchase a "sunshine #4 promix", or something like that. Then I read the label and it said it had coco in it, Doc said no coco.
I would suggest reading the label if possible and just make sure there is no coco in the ingredients.

Docs site says you can use sunshine #4 but I hadn't heard the thing about no coco. I went with sunshine #4 advanced mix because it was all I could find.

The ro kit I have was cheap when on sale for $199

iSpring RCC7 High Capacity Under Sink 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filtration System and Ultimate Water Softener- 75GPD - WQA Gold Seal Certified Amazon.ca

As for the "wasting" water I have never cared as the tap water supply here is so cheap its nearly free

Advanced was the one..
Doc or someone will have to advise you on that one.
May not be enough in it to matter, I just avoided it as it was a topic discussed in the thread at the time I started.

Welcome CJ! The high brix community is unlike any other grow community you will find. Instead of arguing and debating methods, it's talked about, not argued about, by the community as a whole, and pinned down by soil testing to be a repeatable, almost boring process that leads to buds you won't believe. I think we're starting to pull in a lot of people from places like reddit where methods, trolls and arguments abound. Get that soil cooking while you wait. Freshly washed bud attached.

O/L asked Doc about exactly this around 2 years ago ... here’s the response.
Sunshine #4, as long as it isn't the Coco thingie (I don't know what "advanced" mix means) is fine. Peat moss....no coco.

Sunshine uses dolomite----which sucks. Promix uses Limestone and dolomite, which sucks less.

So, as long as it's the PeatMoss formula, you'll be fine.
