Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

No nothing special for SEED germination HOWEVER some use those Root Plugs in the soil to start the seeds in.
I simply use 1 inch of straight Pro-Mix on top of the 1st run soil and start the seeds that way, 100% germination 3 times
in a row.

Also a little heads up SAVE SOME 1st run for future 2nd and 3rd run starts.
Use starter pots with 1st run then up-pot to the 2nd or 3rd run soil
Oh sweet thanx for the info man appreciate it. Hey i noticed the kit says i need to get earth worm castings but it says between 20 n 40 lbs so jus wondering how much shud i get 20 or 40 lol

Wow... lots of little mistakes on that PDF eh... that’s why I never printed or downloaded it.
Not really mistakes I think we just need to adapt/adjust it a bit to our own style and strain ;)
I think that’s true Gazoo - and I wouldn’t call it mistakes either daj,
I’m viewing the calendar on the PDF as a guide for the general shape of what I should be doing not as a completely literal schedule. But I have the benefit of following here for a long while before starting so someone coming to it cold might want to take it more literally (not suggesting that’s you daj!), but if you did, I am sure it would work perfectly! There seems to be a lot of scope for some parts of the routine. It always ‘depends’ :)

Hey Blazin! Welcome to the High Brix crew! You will not regret it! Will you start a new journal or use one of your current ones. Let us know and we'll stop by and follow along. I start my seeds right in 1st run soil, it gets pretty wet, flushed almost, before dropping. Germ rates have been great and most are up in 2.5 days! Never had such great germ experiences. I use about 30lbs of EWC too.

K thanx for the help and i was thinkn about starting a new1 for the hi brix gardening.

Yes , the instructions say use between 20 and 40 pounds. A general good practice would be to use 30 pounds for first run, then use 20 for each round after that. No need to use a full 40 pounds,...especially after the first run....would be way too many EWC's in it ...too much organic matter...not good. Just saying ok .
Yes , as Gazoo just said...any EWC's . work great , but that last number,..the 'K' or Potasium has to be 0 or very close to it.

Thanks Duggs I did not consider the amount in 2nd and 3rd mix, I'll need to keep that in mind.
I did put another 30lbs in my 2nd run so probably need to skip it on the 3rd :high-five::thanks:

You know it’s funny, no-one here in Aus who sells castings could tell me the N-P-K of their product. It was like I was asking for the moon! Or speaking another language. So I have no idea what the K level is like in my castings  So far so good though :)

Same here Amy (USA) I had asked about that while sourcing the EWC and got a lot of DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS kinda
looks

I Mix my soil HALF at a time (not approved) but have found it works out very well since AFTER the first run is finished
and I start my new seeds in the 1 gal starter pots I CAN at that time start the second half and by the time i am ready
to up-pot (6 WEEKS) its ready to go

...Yeah, the only thing I could source locally was African Dew Worm castings...bought a bag a couple years ago...different texture altogether and no mention of NPK on the bag or their website...cheap tho'...17 bones for 30#'s...prolly buy a few bags in the spring for the veggie beds...I asked a couple places here if they would bring in Wiggle Worm...no luck!, so for now, its stateside or online...cheerz...h00k...:rollit::passitleft:...

Ya,..know what ya mean Amy. You shoulda told them it was for High Brix LOS soil , and the potassium , or 'K' levels had to be very low..lmao. They have a complete look of confusion . No guff!!...you would be very shocked , at just how many people working in nurseries...don't even know what your talkin bout! High Brix...WTF? So funny. I get frustrated, cuz i feel they should know more , i guess. Cheers Amy.

Yup , i made that mistake a few grows ago. The EWC's we put in , don't disappear,..they accumulate . It takes a lot longer to 'use up' that many , in our lil pots, so after three runs of soil , it's a very wise thing , to add some fresh Pro Mix and continue on. No need to start completely over after 3 runs. Hell, i added more fresh stuff this , last cook..yup , about 10 gal's worth. I typically use them like this...30, 20, 20(add fresh PM). Enjoy the night Gazoo

Hey Blazin, well,..waddaya sayin Mr! Wat the f... took ya so long....did ya think we were all fakin it...:passitleft:
Very glad to see you join us buncha misfit , ner de wells. For your soil , that's cookin...go ahead after two weeks , and fill up your lil pots, the #1's. Start your seeds by your preferred method and plant into that two week , cooked soil. Leave the rest alone to finish. When they are ready to transplant, the rest will be more that ready to go. When you pre moisten the lil pots,...do it with some Transplant water. Plant and .....at next few drinks ,..just give straight water. Off to the races...hell, if it was me...and i wanted to get going with things,i would start them in straight PM with a good Transplant Drench and Tea mix....then work them into the cooked soil as it's ready. Sounds proper. Enjoy Blazin. U got questions...u ask OK! Your in the right place , for answers. Cheers eh...:passitleft:

It's getting harder for me to get WW...i just make sure that whatever i do get , the 'K' is very low. Anyhow , there goes the timer on the stove...cheers Hook.

Hey Doc and gang I have a question. So some how I managed to only have 5 pots with used first run soil in them ( I run 2 to 3 batches at a time and I have been working secodn run soil out of rotation). So I have to mix more soil and have these 5 pots of first run and one pot of second run. Question is should I mix these 6 together and consider it 2nd run soil, or should I set all of the soil aside until I can get a 6th pot of used first run before I mix that batch? I had planned to start a frsh batch of first run because I did not think I would have enough used soil to mix a full batch anyways. So I can start fresh if needed it will just be a pain storing 5 pots of soil for a few months. Any inputs on pros and cons are welcome.
