I know! I was shocked when I found out how much $$ that RE stuff costs! But you can't argue with results and BOY does that stuff get results! It is truly like magic how it speeds up root development to literally overnight results! I would LOVE to know what the heck is in that stuff!
My cycle timer cost me around $60.00 on amazon. I can post the URL if you like. The temp probe really is a MUST have and at under $17.00 I would strongly advise that you add that ASAP. Being able to easily monitor the temp is very important and trust me when I say that you will be far less likely to check it as often if you have to shut the thing off, open the lid and stick a thermometer in there every time you want to know.
I understand how it goes when you are trying to save for another piece of gear! If your outside air temp is around 69-70 degrees , you might be able to get away with not running a timer and leaving the thing going 24/7. The TK folks actually expect you too do that, but it would be impossible for me to maintain 72 F in my closet without shutting the pump off a good portion of the time, even with the exhaust fan it has built in.
Thanks, GG7! The DM Zone is a very good root zone optimizer, so I'm hoping I can get similar results using that instead of the Root Excelurator. I did find a cycle timer for about $25 that does a 40 minute cycle you can set by the minute. So, I'll probably pick one of those up pretty quickly, but for now, I'll just use an extra 24-hour timer I have that does 15-minute cycles and do the 15-on/45-off to start with, although I'm running it full time for the first couple of days.
If you don't mind, though, please PM me the link for the thermometer you're using. I wouldn't mind taking a peak at it.
I just want to get the LED before I start buying anything else. With an LED, some 4" ducting, and a bunch more 2L bottles, I'll be in a position to do the SOG. Everything else will just make it better/easier/more effective, but I want to get the "base" setup in place before I start with the "addons".
Thanks!
