DIY Stealth Cab, Hydro, LED & Multiple Strains in Small Space - Oh Boy!

I know! I was shocked when I found out how much $$ that RE stuff costs! But you can't argue with results and BOY does that stuff get results! It is truly like magic how it speeds up root development to literally overnight results! I would LOVE to know what the heck is in that stuff!

My cycle timer cost me around $60.00 on amazon. I can post the URL if you like. The temp probe really is a MUST have and at under $17.00 I would strongly advise that you add that ASAP. Being able to easily monitor the temp is very important and trust me when I say that you will be far less likely to check it as often if you have to shut the thing off, open the lid and stick a thermometer in there every time you want to know. ;)

I understand how it goes when you are trying to save for another piece of gear! If your outside air temp is around 69-70 degrees , you might be able to get away with not running a timer and leaving the thing going 24/7. The TK folks actually expect you too do that, but it would be impossible for me to maintain 72 F in my closet without shutting the pump off a good portion of the time, even with the exhaust fan it has built in.

Thanks, GG7! The DM Zone is a very good root zone optimizer, so I'm hoping I can get similar results using that instead of the Root Excelurator. I did find a cycle timer for about $25 that does a 40 minute cycle you can set by the minute. So, I'll probably pick one of those up pretty quickly, but for now, I'll just use an extra 24-hour timer I have that does 15-minute cycles and do the 15-on/45-off to start with, although I'm running it full time for the first couple of days.

If you don't mind, though, please PM me the link for the thermometer you're using. I wouldn't mind taking a peak at it.

I just want to get the LED before I start buying anything else. With an LED, some 4" ducting, and a bunch more 2L bottles, I'll be in a position to do the SOG. Everything else will just make it better/easier/more effective, but I want to get the "base" setup in place before I start with the "addons".

Thanks!

Sounds good except 45 minutes off is way too long! Especially when the cuttings are fresh and have not started to fend for themselves. You would probably loose the entire lot with 45 minutes between watering cycles. The longest I have let mine go is 10 minutes and that was after they developed root buds.

As far as the thermometer... I linked you to the "Polder" and the suction cup bracket to hold it in my previous reply. Only thing I didn't link to was the cycle timer I am using. If the unit you found can run a 1-3 minute on and 2-5 minutes off 24/7 then that should do the trick for your pump motor!

As long as it is rated at 15 amps or higher you should be good to go!

Here is the Cycle Timer I am using for my Turbo Klone. Figured I may was well link to it here since others may want to know more about it. The thing works great and is built like a tank!

C.A.P specializes in cycle timers of all shapes and sizes and many of them for industrial use, so you know they know what they are doing! No crappy Chinese plastic here! ;)

P.S. I will be VERY curious to see how that DM Zone stuff works for you in place of the Roots Excellerator. I've got about half of my bottle left for next season, so at some point I will have to decide whether I want to shell out another $70.00 something bucks for a refill, or find something more reasonable that works as well. Even with the power of the RE working for me, I was only able to get 1 viable Blue Cheese clone out of the 8 cuttings I took in my last TK session. But..One was all I really needed and she is doing great so far! :yahoo:

The RE and the TK paid for themselves in spades after pulling that off! It was my last hope for preserving the strain that almost won me the Plant of the Month prize in July and some of the best bud I have ever grown!

Thanks again, GG7! :thanks:

Hmmmmmmm....you really got me thinking about the TK cycles now.

The guy in the hydro store swore by running it full time for the first few days, then going to 15-on/45-off, and, in fact, had a TK-96 in the shop on a 15-on/45-off timer, but he had basil and the other WRONG kind of herbs in it! :)

He said after running it full time for a few days then going to 15-on/45-off, they plants would start searching for the water, which of course makes sense, but I tend to trust you more than the hydro guy! :high-five:

Maybe I'll go to 15-on/15-off instead? I'll have to re-think it!

I PM'd you the link to the cycle timer I've been looking at!

Hmmm... Nahh... 45 minutes OFF is just too damned long. You are going to stress the hell out of your cuttings and run the risk of them dying on you. A long off cycle will only entice more root development AFTER the cuttings have started making roots. Before that, it is only going to hinder their development. You know what stress does to Cannabis! This situation would be no different.

I keep my OFF cycle time at 4 minutes 20 seconds all the time! ;)

You definitely want to either let the thing run continuously for the first 3-5 days or put it on a long ON cycle of say 40 minutes with the same 4 minutes or so of OFF time. I use the TK humidity dome I bought for my T48 for those first few days to help keep them from wilting too badly. I spray the inside of the plastic dome with distilled water as well as directly on the cuttings to help them survive the shock of the initial 48 hours or so. I usually remove the dome around day 3.

So to recap my timer settings...

I run mine for about 40 minutes ON and 4 minutes OFF for those crucial first few days until the cuttings start to figure out what is going on and begin focusing their attention on getting to the water and growing themselves some serious roots! At around Day 5 I reduce the ON time to about 4 minutes. Once you start seeing the swelling, whitening and eventually the white bumps that will soon become root spikes, THEN you can start coaxing them to develop faster by reducing the amount of ON time for the pump even further.

By the time I start seeing root spikes, I have reduced the ON time to about 2 minutes ON. By the last couple of days, I reduce it further to about a minute ON. But I always leave the OFF time the same through the entire process.

Glad you checked in here first! :thumb:

P.S. That cycle timer looks like it should do the job. Provided it is rated high enough to handle the pump motor, I see no reason why it won't handle the job. Does it allow you to run intervals as short as 60 seconds? That is important for the last 3rd of the session where all the root development is going on and where a very short ON cycle forces them to make more roots faster.

you always seem to amaze me!!! cant wait till i get back on my feet so i can get me a better grow tent and shit, cause this growin 4 plants from finish to start and not bein able to do anything else is killin me, im always lookin for somethin to turn into a veg cabinet but its been hard lately bein tight on money and all, im thinkin next grow im not gonna grow them so tall, i think i might just grow them about a foot tall and turn them over, then maybe i can grow six in there, i just wanna do somethin to where i dont gotta wait every 3-4 months to harvest and to have somethin you know, i dont know, i guess all i can do is keep reading and planning and maybe i'll figure somethin out by time i harvest, i put this tub together with some lights in it and all that to start somethin but i dont know if thats gonna work or not, i'll guess i'll just have to wait and see... lol maybe i can grow like you one day!!!! :thumb: :goodjob:

Nice Mr Krip them buds are killer for sure looking so sticky! Nice work on your bubble aswell filter 73 is always my favourite did u notice any diffrent in them?

See this is your second grow and your first was a bit of a disaster all sounds to familiar to me. you have become a magnificent grower and icon to many.

Mr. K, things are looking very nice. Best of luck on this month's MOTM. Here's a shameless plug for the contests (please excuse the threadjack):

One week left to vote for the monthly contests. The NOTM is a close race between my P-chunk and a purple bud...let's go orange!

Also make sure to vote for POTM and MOTM! Looks like GG7 and Mr K are doing well in the polls, but they need more love on the polls. There are more than twice as many votes for the POTM than the MOTM.

Very Nice Mr. K!

Can you take a few photos of the entire Mini 24 machine? I'm curious to see what it looks like in an actual grower's setting! Thanks in advance! :thumb:

Your cuttings look darling! ;) Nice job on the leaf trimming! You're going to be VERY pleased with how well this machine works for you and how efficient it is at getting ALL your cuttings to root!

The success rate is pretty much guaranteed at 100%, so I would suggest that you only cut as many as you are prepared to see through the entire life cycle! :thumb:

P.S. Thanks for the contest plug Steve! I haven't been monitoring the contests after I voted cause I get too worked up! LOL! :laughtwo: I prefer to wait until its over to find out if I or one of my buddies won or not. ;) But I agree, we always need to get MORE people involved in those and voting every month!

Thanks Bro's! I appreciate the good words! :thankyou:

GSpeed, much thanks! I'm not sure about an "icon" but really am humbled & grateful! :thanks:

I really didn't notice that much of a difference, but I'd say the 73 was best (maybe because that's what I was expecting!) and the 45 was pretty damn good, too. Even the 160 kicked but, though! I had a lot of the 160, so that's what I shared with a few friends and they were all blown away by it! Next time, I think I'll try the dry-ice method, though, which looks a LOT easier!

I've had 100% with my ezcloner (almost the same as the TK, a few differences). I put 30 in each session and pick the healthiest looking 20 for the bloom-box. There are always a few that take off slower than the rest or are just stronger looking. Keep the best, toss the rest.

Thanks, Steve! I haven't checked or voted yet, but I will and appreciate the plug. There are a lot of real worthy nominees in all categories this month, so everyone please get out and vote! :thumb:

We all need to band together to increase cannabis awareness. How are we gonna change the laws if we can't even vote on the 420 Contests?!!! :)

GG7, I'll post some detailed pics of the TK later for you. I have some pics just about to go up with a short TK update and didn't want you to think I was blowing you off...I just didn't have your request at the time! ;)

Give me a few hours!

I am yet to vote on anything I will be looking into voting on a monthly basis it's just there so many good growers on 420. Think I'll take a look at what the poles are say.Good luck guys

Thanks, again, G-Speed! :thanks:

Thanks, Steve! Good advice! Right now, I have three strains in the cab. The Pineapple Express, Power Skunk, and Lucy. In my "ideal world" I can get three good Bonsai mom's that will each give me 6 healthy clones every six weeks. I may need to take batches of 8, or so, to make sure I get 6, which means bigger Bonsai moms. Then, I'll put 6 of one strain into flower at a time.

After a couple weeks in the TK developing roots, I'll put them in the hempys to veg for another week or so, and take the clones from the next strain in the rotation.

It should be fun to see how long I can keep that going and if, with the new space, I can introduce some new strains! :yahoo:

TURBOKLONE UPDATE

I did take two more PE clones today, just to try to make sure I had six that were close to the same stage of development for round #1 of the SOG in a few weeks. Both were pretty small, and only have an inch or so of stem coming out of the neoprene insert, so we'll see how they fare.

Here's the new group shot with the two new clones on the right:

Also, the other four clones have just spent about 24 hours in the TK, so I checked for any signs of roots, and, to my surprise, THREE of them are already showing early signs of root development. Here's the one with the most noticable start of root spikes:

On a totally non-related topic...while I was in there, I couldn't resist taking a pic of the Power Skunk who was getting a little foliar spray when I was checking the roots on the TK:
