DIY Stealth Cab, Hydro, LED & Multiple Strains in Small Space - Oh Boy!

Glad to hear from you Mr. K. As long as you (and your beautiful girls) are ok, all is well. Looking forward to an update and your presence here at 420!

Thanks, Beans! :thanks:

All is well!

I've got an update coming up just for you, but don't say anything to GG7 cuz he thinks it's for him!

(GG7, it's really for you!)

(Beans, disregard that last statment, it's for you!)

:)

Been missing you too Mr. Krip.:surf:
The unexpected gets us all.
Hope all is well and that your girls are waiting with smiling faces when you get back. :MoreNutes:

Mahalo, my friend! :thanks:

I'm not sure any of them were "smiling" but it's sure clear they were happy to see me get home! :)

Hello Mr.K,
I have been sandbagging your thread for a while and I hope all is well.- FS

Hey, thanks much for the good wishes, Scratch! :thankyou:

If it took me leaving for a few days to finally get you to post here, it was well worth it! :)

I appreciate the thoughts and feel free to comment any time!

UPDATE AFTER A FEW DAYS AWAY

Guys, I apologize again for the lack of updates, but I was all set to have a nice, relaxing weekend when I got called out-of-town on an urgent issue for three days with little time to prepare (or document the situation!).

So, I did some last minute scrambling and, although, it wasn't perfect, I guess I made out relatively ok considering the circumstances.

For the girls in flower, my solution, I think, was pretty brilliant, and I'll be using some of the ideas moving forward.

In the existing setup, each waterfarm has it's own upgraded air pump that each have two air ports. Currently, each pump runs one waterfarm's drip ring from one port and the airstone from the other port. But, if a pump goes out, I lose an entire waterfarm.

What I did before I went away was to "overfill" the waterfarms with nutes, disconnected the drip rings, and added second airstones so the waterfarms were being used as plain DWC's (without the drip). I then connected the hoses so each pump was feeding one airstone in each waterfarm from each of the two ports. This way, if either of the two pumps went out, I'd have both waterfarms running with one airstone instead of one waterfarm running with two and the other one dead completely.

I don't know if it made a difference, but I figured not using the drip would slow down some of the evaporation.

Either way, the plan worked beautifully! I didn't lose any of the pumps (that I know of), but the girls were fine, although the res on the larger plant was dangerously low. You'll see from the upcoming pics, they suffered virtually NO ill-effects from my absence. In fact, I thought they would have missed me a little more! :)

I did change both waterfarm res's today, stopped the Big Bud, started the Overdrive in full strength, and lowered PPM's working towards flush in two weeks.

For the girls in veg, things weren't as pretty.

I lost the two PE clones that were a couple of weeks old when their cubes dried out. I not only had the cubes soaked, but also sitting in a nice pool of water, but because they were larger, or I was stupid, or whatever, I did NOT put a humidity dome on them.

With the PowerSkunk clone and Lucy, because they were so small, I improvised some humidity domes that seemed to really help retain the moisture while I was gone. They are looking great!

The PE bonsai mom and her first clone are still alive, but were drooping severely, I'm sure because they have the largest root structures and went through the nutes the quickest.

Once I gave them a nice dose of nutes, they perked right up, so I don't think they'll die, but they don't look very healthy either. Both look like they have some cal/mag deficiency which I wouldn't expect using tap water, and have never had it, but could be deficient in everything being I was gone for 3 days. Just to be safe, I picked up some Cal-Mag today and just added some to their hempy's.

There was a lot of yellowing and browning on the girls in veg, and I trimmed the bad stuff up quite a bit, so they do look much better in these pics than they looked when I got home, but here they are:

And, here's Lucy...She looks extremely healthy, but keep in mind she's now something like three or four weeks old!:

And, here are some shots of the chicks in bloom. I haven't told them, yet, they're being harvested in three weeks, or so, cuz' I don't want to stress them! :grinjoint:

Thanks to everyone for the good wishes! :thanks:

I'll try to get caught up on journals over the next couple of days!

Happy Harvests!

Hey Mr. K, im a little curious. Maybe youve answered this question before so I apologize ifbits a repeat, but what made you decide to use a different medium in the waterfarm than the hydroton supplied?

Wow i asked that question then read your update lol. You're definitely a DIY Guy. You have some great guides. The dryer is a personal fav of mine. The ladies are looking mighty fine! Sorry bout the clones :( it happens. At least you still got momma!

I don't know how much is "hype", but here's a good overview:

SureToGrowers's Channel - YouTube

My primary reasons for using it are it's sterile, doesn't have to be pre-washed or PH adjusted, it's much lighter than hydroton so it ships easily/cheaply, and it can be disposed of easily.

Now I know who's just been looking at the pictures! :)

The LED status is in THIS POST:

Here's my defense lol....
If I didn't "like" it, I didnt see it. Your pics are always sweet, and I have missed a lot of posts in the last month, sorry brother!

I always tell them that we're going to Disneyland, works everythyme.;)

That sounds like a GREAT idea! Remind me to not have the scissors in hand when I tell them!

Judging from my subscribed journals, you're already hard at work catching up!

Trying to get back ahead of the game! I'm sub'd to a total of 68 journals (not including my "Reference" folder!) but luckily, only about 20 have been active in the last few days, so I should get caught up quick! :wood:

Mr.K,
You are never stingy with the pics. Betty Crocker is jealous of all that frosting. Halfway through your update I found myself worrying about the PE bonsai mom. What a relief to hear she was OK ! RIP Little ones :( -FS

Thanks, Scratch! :thankyou:

I love photo-ing the girls and sharing with my "Bro's"; and, if Betty Crocker spent as much time baked as I, she'd go for more frosting, too! :)

I'm still a little worried about the Bonsai & PE clone as far as some potential deficiency, but I'm sure I can handle it if I'm here. I did start LST'ing the PE clone tonight and will post some pics of that tomorrow.

I was hoping to make the PE clone a new/better Bonsai mom, but with my other clones dead, I'm now starting to worry about the lag time between the next round of flowering, so honestly, I'm still not sure what going into flower next, but I have some ideas on that I'll share soon!

Well....since you "buttered it up" with the "sweet pics" comment, I guess you can get a "Pass" on that one.

But, I may throw some things into these posts and quiz you on them later, so make sure you pay close attention! :)

The hail sounds like a great medium. I like my hydroton, but i always look for improvement. Thanks.
