DephOne's First Grow - Unknown Strain

Aiight.

Here's what I picked up.

CFL.jpg

Did I do good? Cause I know nothing about CFL's...

have a good look on the box mate and try and see if it tells you if its the 6400kelvin bulb or the 2700kelvin bulb, or switch them on and check, the 6400k cfls are a bright blueish white light, the 2700k cfls are an orange light more like a normal house bulb, the 6400k cfls are the best to use during veg, but if you struggle to find them as i did, then use them you just bought as they will still give you a decent result, i found the best place for the 6400k or daylight cfls is the net, i couldnt get any in any of the shops i went to, so i had to use the net, i had about 50 of the 2700k cfls as i got them free from my energy supplier so it was just the 6400k bulbs i needed, so in the end i had to buy them off the net, but it got me what i needed and worked well,
so get all them cfls up as soon as you can, but remember the following, the end of the bulb gives off little light, you need to hang them so the side of the bulb is facing the plant, so try and get them hung like that, not like the old incandecent bulbs as they give off light all the way round, cfls give off most of the light from the side of the bulbs and not the end,

I cant really hang them down yet. Not untill I get 2 cords that have lightbulb ends(where the bulb can screw in). And even then, I'm gona have to figure out a way to hang them properly. And I googled every brand/w/lumen/size. All of them said the bulbs i have are around 5000K

they should be ok for both stages of growth, it wont be the best but as its near to the middle of the range then it will work for both stages, it will be better than what your using now, try and get them up as soon as you can and then the plants will grow a lot quicker than they are, you should be able to use them for both flower and veg with no problems

flea bay is the way to go for hps, i got my 400 watt dual spectrum hps for £65 quid, included ballast, reflector and bulb, well worth the money, if you can get a dual spectrum hps bulb then this means it can be used for veg as well., but as standard hps bulb can be used for veg and will give good results, its just the dual spec has some element in it that produces the blue light needed for veg, so this time round i tried the hps instead of the cfls for veg and the growth was crazy with the hps, cfls seem to keep the plants small and bushy but the hps makes them stretch and get tall, thats the results i got, possibly due to the cfls been close to the plants where as my 400 watt is just over 1ft away from the tops of the plant, be prepared to have high temps with the hps so it will need venting, i could keep my grow room door closed with 14 cfls in their and struggle to keep the temps high enough to keep the plants happy, now i struggle to keep the temps below 85f but my plants seem to love that temp, 78f seems to slow my plants down, they prefer the hotter temps for some reason

This is my opinion for your situation right now, not for the future of your grow, it's what you need for Right Now, not 1 month from now, grace

Ok kid, here's Aunt Gracie's unsolicated word of advice: Always, always save your receipts, you will be making lots and lots of trips to different stores to pick up what you need, especially in the beginning. Take those lights back as you can't use them yet anyway. Then if you purchased at Wallymart as you said you would, exchange & get yourself at least 1 clamp light back in the auto parts area, they run just under $7.00, if you can get 2 you'll be better off, pick up you perlite there too before they stop stocking it soon, vermiculite too. Keep all of your receipts, and try to keep a running total of what this is costing you money wise, add it to this journal, it'll educate a lot of new people, and if they're smart like you they may learn from your mistakes.

Now, here's the good news, you shouldn't have to go back to Wallyword for anything else unless you need more solo cups, get some of those now, as they are cheaper now because of summer, after summer, prices go uppppppp!

Those clamp lights are something my husband had in the garage, but I wanted my own for my grow room, you may have some in garage, or someone else may have some, check to see if you can get them for free somewhere. They are perfect for baby seedlings.

Oh, I remember now, I had to go to Homepot and Lowes for my cfl 2700's, and 6500, Home Depot sells Phillips, and Lowe's I believe are GE Brands and some genertic. Now be careful with these lights, they will break on you as I have found out 4 times already, put them away until after you have hung your lighting, then place those bulbs in the lights, i have worked with moving lights, and broken quite a few of these little fockers, and they do have Mercury in them, so clean up as soon as you break them, and try not to handle too much after cleaning, wash your hands Young Man, Anyway, that's Aunt Gracie's Unsolicilated Advice for the Day/Grace

Well thank you for the advice. :)

Though I am only using the cfl in the light socket just for a few days. I will have to go to Home Depot/Wal-Mart in a week or 2. I have an extra bill this week seeing as to how the end of the month is near. And I will need the left overs of my pay check for Gas money.

AS you all know, I don't receive a steady pay atm. I make barely enough to Pay my Rent($50/week) my TV bill($40/week) Cellphone($62/month) and my gf's ring bill ($55/month). though It may not seem like much to pay. When you only work 2 days a week. And make less than $100 a day. It's tough.

I have to get these things as the money comes along. :( unfortunately. The bulbs cost me $4.48 and that left me with $1.52 to last me until I get paid Tuesday. :(

Oh I remember those days well, that's why you need to figure out to live below your means, it really does work. I remember when all I could afford to buy was chicken thighs to oven fry, and they were tasty, no pop, just made my own tea, and you know what, those were the best days of my life, and still my favorite foods, as well as beans, I loooove me a good bean soup, my husband, well he don't like it when I make my bean soup, chicken soup last me all week.. When you get older you'll remember these days as good days, so look at each day like it's a good day/grace

Hey, I love tea, its my favorite beverage, and Kool-Aid. Also Oodles of Noodles and Beefaroni. I eat cheap all the time. Campbells Chicken Noodle soup. Pan fried chicken strips. (I also like to cook fancy) Once or twice a month I have me some Pan Seared Sirloin with fresh Green beans. :) mmmm

LMAO, I didn't say It's my breakfast, lunch, and dinner diet. I eat fruits and veggies on a daily basis. Whatever is "in season". Also, whenever mom makes dinner and such I eat. Not feeding pure crap to my body. :D

Though I should look into an exercise routine. Lol.

OK KID, let's get one thing straight, I don't do twiter, facebook, and definitely don't text, so when you type LMAO, I have no idea what it means, and I'm guessing there's of bunch of old stoners thinking the same thing, but don't want you to know how old we really are, most of us have arithitis in several parts of bodies, so we don't text, so, what does LMAO mean, and throw in a few more for reference, I know there's been a few that flew over my head, I just didn't get the joke entirely, so take it easy on the Elders/Aunt Grace

Did you find the lighter yet, off to make HOMEMADE CHICKEN SOUP, no cans here,/

ok here is my unsoliceted (and un spell checked) advice...your broke...i get that, probably more than most people do.
you bought them lights..great, its better than the other light even if it isnt exactly right for the stage your in...and as a bonus will save you about half the electric bill the other light used.

if you truly want the best possible performance on a zero budget. you need to let the sun do the work. go out and find an opaque bag or sheet or something that will let as much light in as possible, but will prevent people seeing whats inside. disguise the container somehow and put it on the roof or jimmy up a window hanging system. do whatever you need to do to let those plants get as much sun as possible, then the indoor lights just need to make up the numbers (13 hours total or more)...this gives you plenty of time to get set up with a few 6500k grow lights or whatever you got on the way e.t.c

this early stretch is not a problem as you can bury it all the way up to the leaves when you repot...but once nodes start to form, light starvation will affect the plant for life. once they got a couple more leaves they need strong wind to rapidly thicken up the stem (strong wind = more water evap so may need more frequent watering).

so, sunlight during the day and the cfl at night (i would allow your babies a good 8 hours sleep a night, plants ARE better at growing when not eating light) and yeah a tea towel or a sock will work..or if your like me...bugger it skin heals for free, a burned cloth costs money, not that you would burn a cloth from a quick light removal.

thats it really...keep calm and carry on =)
