Dennise - No Longer The Newest Of Newbies - Not Growing In MG - Perpetual

Hey guys... I am looking at buying some ProMix soil and I was wondering if anyone has any info or if there is anyone who has used it and knows anything about it. I can't figure out which I would need the ProMix BX or ProMix Hp??? :hmmmm: I am thinking about trying this soil with growology nutes. Anybody with some knowledge in this area please let me know. Also would this medium work with Doc's kit????

Pro-Mix HP is exactly what Doc Bud's kit is made for. :thumb:

It's ph-balanced peat, with 27% perlite and some very good mycos. I had the opportunity to talk to one of the soil engineers at Premier. They use only high calcium limestone to balance the ph of their peat, which is taken from bogs at numerous sites in Canada and the States.

It's good stuff with no particular "nutes" of its own - nothing to get in the way of your own program.

One compressed bale or 2 bags, and 30 lbs of worm poop, is all you need to run Doc's kit. That'll get you 60 gallons of soil and enough foliars and drenches to do about a grow and a half before you run out. Or run 30 gallons and have enough from the kit for multiple runs, which is how I started.

One thing to consider: If you run commercial nutes through it, it won't work with the kit later. Of course, I recommend the kit. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Either way, it's some of the best soil out there.

[Edit] And I don' mean to step on KJC's toes, but the kit was purposely designed for dummies. My plants look like they do because of the kit, not me. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Congrats on getting the tent, Dennise. I look forward to seeing it setup.

( to anyone in the know ) Is the Pro Mix soil all 'Organic' ? I couldn't see anything about it in the catalog saying whether it was organic or not.

yes... from what I can gather and have studied all day it is....:thumb:

It really does depend on what the Pro Mix uses as their wetting agent. That may render it not an acceptable "organic" medium, if the desire is to have a certified organic grow. It's usually some type of surfactant, but I don't see them listing the chemical they use. As an FYI.

Well honestly I wouldn't know organic from goodyear but it is used in high brix and they call it organic and I'm pretty sure it is closer to it than the miracle grow in my closet but I don't even know what a surfactant is...lol but I will in a minute cause I'm going to look it up..:lot-o-toke:

See, I would think that if it's organic, then they would state that it is, like Roots soil does. The TGA super soil also says organic on it. A lot of amendments will say 'organic' or OMRI on it.

I'm a little skeptical on the pro-mix so far. I think my next round will be super soil made with Roots organics soil.

Being 100% organic is important to me.

I really am trying to do better but it's a process... I'm hoping by the end of summer I will have my greenhouse up and running that will be totally under my control as far as temp, humidity and light and eventually using my own natural nutes off the farm but all of these things take time. Had no idea this time last year I would be growing in my closet (cabinet, box and tent) or I would have scooped the poop.....:MoreNutes:
