Dennise - No Longer The Newest Of Newbies - Not Growing In MG - Perpetual

The ethical reasons aren't a concern for me, its effect on us is my concern.

This, plus another 420 forum's thread, is where most (all) of my uneducated opinion is coming from.
Is Bat Guano Dangerous?

I haven't read much past those two sources.. but breathing in those spores does not sound kosher, although I'm aware that we inhale mold spores on a daily basis just by going through life, and of course when we smoke/vape mold-containing herbage. I was just wondering if these health concerns have crossed the minds of those who use bat guano in their mixes and teas. I used to think it was cool to get your hands dirty with soil and not even wash them, if I'm using guano.. not so much.

If I end up using guano (which I probably will), I'll follow what those guys on the other forum recommended and use a particle mask & gloves while mixing everything.

And thanks for the help Dennise, I really appreciate everything you've shared. :circle-of-love:

I've seen your praises about using the essential oil as foliar spray twice a week, but I feel like I haven't been able to find exactly what it consists of. Is it only rosemary oil with water?

How many girls do you cycle with those proportions, and in what sized pots?

Also, not to confuse anyone by practically posting the same mix twice. But I'm planning on PJ's mix-that Doc shared with me-with only the slightest variation from the one above, which is exactly the same but with the compost being 5 times the amount in Fox Farms Ocean Forest.

Hmm... it's not important but I'll mention for anyone who may get similarly confused.. 1 cup = 0.25 quart
For a second while comparing the FFOF mix to PJ's 'original' one... I was doing the math wrong and was only converting 6 cups into quarts and got that I should only use 1.5 quarts of FFOF in the veg mix... I wasn't multiplying by 5.

Thanks for putting this amendment up here... Heck I have a bag of FF and that would stretch my tote of soil out quite a bit...:hmmm::hmmm: I'm gonna let PJ answer on how many girls that recipe will cook cause to be honest with ya.... I have never started with one recipe and used it up before making another batch on top of it..... So I don't know where one batch ends and another starts...
7Dust should be able to answer your question on topping too... He tops most of his babies and I can't remember if PJ does or not but I know 7 does and he will pop back through shortly... If I didn't answer everything hit me up with it again... I think I covered it all but I am a bit of a scatter brain....:circle-of-love:

Sound advice, but I'm someone need things spelled out for me :sorry:

I understand KISS.. but when you say always.. do you mind being a little more specific?

Do you wear the mask when watering, harvesting, trimming, or just gloves at those times?

Edit: Common sense tells me you don't wear the mask when you're watering or chopping.. Lol. I'm just wondering when you're less concerned with wearing it. Trying not to be a nuisance, I swear :clown:

Don't ever apoligize for asking questions... the folks around here have learned to type real slow when they are talking to me... I'm a slow learner...:;):....:circle-of-love:

I only wear the mask when mixing with perlite... I don't wear gloves but try to give the correct advice, lol. I should get into the habit...

Thanks for making me feel at home Dennise :bong:

You pretty much covered everything *for now*

I haven't been able to send a PM to PJ yet, so I've been learning secondhand from his disciples until I get 50 posts in

Haha I get it man, thanks

So just to clarify Dennise, a few posts back you said
plant marigolds and water with or foliar spray a solution of Rosemary and water.... They don't like the taste of it...

Did you mean to water/foliar spray the marigolds as well as the ganja, or just one and not the other?

Also, I know that PJ advises against "misting".
Misting is not good...
Please don't mist your plants.
Well, wouldn't a foliar spray be considered misting? I would imagine that it's not as much of a concern during the Veg stage as it is during flowering, because it would create the potential for mold/bacteria proliferation, right?

He's talking about misting for watering purposes... PJ does foliar sprays I'm pretty sure.... but yes I was just talking about planting the marigolds around your grow.... it helps keep the crawlies away and if you get moths flying over that drop eggs and you get those on you plant they don't like the taste of the Rosemary... with the sns209 that is a rosemary extract that you just add to your regular waterings and it just works miracles..... Get the best natural pesticides available – toxin free .... Hope that helps.....:circle-of-love:

I see, thank you!

So I'm assuming you keep the foliar spray light? On a scale of 1-10, 1 being no spray and 10 having visible dripping water, where do you try to keep it?

Do you use sns209 every watering, as suggested on the label?

I actually use the sns209 in my regular waterings.... and yes I do use it every time I water when I am growing outside but the extra payoff is the amazing trichrome production it enhances... When I grow inside and am not worrying about pest... I use an essential oil foliar mixture of 5 oils mixed in water then sprayed at lights out stating at 3 weeks into flower and apply every 3 days until 2 weeks from harvest.... it is strictly for additional trich production... It works really well too....:circle-of-love:

Hmm..

So you never use sns209 and your essential oil mix in conjunction with one another when outdoor? I'm a little confused there.

Also, when you say 3 weeks into flower and until 2 weeks from harvest, how much time is that?

How much would you say that time varies from indoor to outdoor on average?

As always, muchas gracias

:rasta:

Good grief! Manzee you're swingin' from the bars of your cage. It's ok. I have my helmet on and face shield down in case you start throwing your feces.

A foliar spray is something done to fairly mature plants. In general it should be directed towards the underside of the leaves where the stoma (leaf pores) can absorb it. There is a waxy cuticle on the top of the leafs that inhibits absorption. A foliar spray should be applied at dawn or dusk if the plants are outside, or before lights come on or right before or after they go off inside.

Water on the top of the leaves forms droplets like water on a well waxed car hood does. The droplets act like little magnifying glasses under intense sunlight or the kind of high intensity lighting necessary to grow cannabis indoors. This leads to "burns" on the leafs. Outdoors, "gorilla growers" who put plants in the wild to fend for themselves can get pretty excited about a good rain. Those who grow in an organised fashion outdoors tend to fear it. It weighs down the plant, can lead to mold and fungus problems, etc.

Please don't mist your plants, especially if they are just babies. It can be difficult not to love your plants to death when you're just starting out.

No. I've never had cause to use the sns209 indoors and actually I did use a foliar a few times on the outdoor girls but it was a very wet season so it was only a few times and I would say pretty much useless... It was a really wet season.... the time thing is totally dependent on strain... it can be anywere from 5-6 weeks worth of spraying to 10-12 weeks... It just depends on what the strain flowering time is.... and I don't know that it varies at all from indoors to out once she starts to flower... of course a lot of the outdoor stuff may be different depending on where you live too I would think... for the most part... I'm a indoor grower....:circle-of-love:

You've asked a bunch of really good questions, Manzee. I'll try to find time in the next couple of days to answer them all, but realise that it will take me a good chunk of time and that time is not always easy to come by.

There's a lot to learn when you're starting from the ground zero..

I'll take help whenever I can get it. I appreciate anyone taking the time to better my understanding tremendously. It means a lot to have the chance to learn from the knowledge and experience of the fine people here, and the community at large, PJ.

I've asked a grip of questions, saved all the responses and plan on going back and compiling notes out of all the extremely useful info I've come by.

So by all means, I'd love to hear anything you think may be even remotely helpful.

You are in a great place to learn. Dennise's garden was one the first I visited and watching her got me going!!!! :circle-of-love::peace:
