Dark Matter, Red Sky, Chunky Cherry Thai, BP Skunk In LOS

From the pale leaves across the plant do you figure the soil ran out of oomph by the end?
I don't know. There's some bro science. to sift through. I don't know the difference between running out of food and what's called "a nice fall fade", and light burn. The yellow leaves were mostly on top cola leaves and very bottoms. Main body leaves out of the light were a more normal green for the end time. My guess is fade, but I wouldn't put money on it. I might go back to 10 gallon pots again for a looksee next if my back says ok. Do they really ever have a "nice fade" bro?

Highya SO,

You have raised a question I've been working on for years.

For one, I think different strains have different biological clocks. Some will start flower sooner, some later. Second, I've tried to determine when the changeover is by counting backwards from harvest. I usually harvest mid-October. If the breeder says 60 days flower, that would put the changeover mid-july.

Your Black Poison Skunk sure was a looker! I'm not surprised she's estimated at 8.5 z's! If she smokes as nice as she looks, you're in for a real treat!! Nice work! Happy Vapin'
Mid july is approaching 14 hours of daylight for us. A threshold zone where they will be thinking seriously about the change I'm thinking. Will you be topping?

Congrats on your harvest, Stone! :thumb:

I'm at 37.3N latitude so it probably will be a bit different for your location. I actually discovered some pre-flowering stigmas today on one of my plants. Actual flowering usually arrives about 3 weeks later. During last year's grow the three plants showed first signs of pre-flower on 6/16, 6/24, and 7/2. Flowering started 7/11, 7/16, and 7/21 respectively.

You'll still have time to get a nice size plant. Once actual flowering starts, my plants typically grow an additional 25-35% in height. If your plant is at 48" when flowering starts, then it could go to 60" by the end of stretch. YMMV
Great info! I'm 42.7 so close kind of. One day this coming week I'll take off the top and be ready.

I do top a couple times, as they'd be stepladder tall again. They seem to do fine after topping. I was concerned they wouldn't produce enough buds at first, but I've never run out of buds, so I'll continue to do so. Stepladders weren't made to trim cannabis ladies!! Happy Vapin'

Another stellar takedown, @StoneOtter!

I will hold off a few days before commenting any further. I want to wait and see if this plant is actually the plant you say it is! :laughtwo:

Well then maybe it's time to try some multi topping here too. Let's leave the high flying to a Walenda.

Are you a father, Stone? If so, Happy Father's Day to you.

No Fathers Day celebrations in our house. Felonious and I aren't parents of anyone, by choice. When I started dating him, his brother was 2 years old and their parents were driving school instructors so Felonious and I basically babysat him most of the time so we felt we'd already sorta done it.

Well that'll do it! You both already paid those dues for sure. My neighbor was a driving instructor. That's quite a job. I couldn't do it. I'd need a joint for every student.

You're due east of us. My outdoor plants got a ways to go. I didn't wanna put them out too soon this year cause they get tall af. You thinking about topping now outside?

I've kept a few outdoor girls inside waiting for the solstice. I didn't wanna put them out and get a re-veg going. Last year I was vegging outside after the May 10th snow storm.

Congrats on your harvest looks like a nice haul. Good job.

Hey Bob, thanks, I topped her yesterday at about 4 feet. We'll see how that goes.

I'm thinking on the same lines with planting time. She went in on June 1st I believe. Before that the ground is cold and as you mentioned the due east thing, winter weather can have it's way until then. I cut my light time this year to 14 or 15 hours of light and brought her to the brink of flower but not, before putting her out. That worked I think. There's been no grow slowdown adapting to the sun this time. A few years ago I started some for a friend and they had to adapt by going into flower and re vegging so I cut the on time down to begin with.

Pretty sure I've been snowed on in Herkimer first week in June before at the KOA.

Are you saying you set the indoor light timer to match the hours of natural sunlight existing when you set them out? That makes a lot of sense.
That's what I was thinking, I saw someone else here at 420mag mention doing that and thought it was a good idea. I forget who, sorry to that person. It slowed her down from growing but never reverted to what I call being in flower so no re vegging to do.

Yes, I feel it's important to gradually match the artificial light schedule to Mother Nature's schedule, maybe a week before putting them outside. I usually adjust about 30-60 minutes each day. I learned that the hard way a couple years ago. I put a plant outside on the first day of spring - went from 18 hrs of artificial light to 12 hrs of natural light. Sure enough it went into flower and then eventually went back into veg.
