hi folks, just started my first grow using dark devils under a budmaster xg 9 led light. canna pro coco, 20l air pots. and I seem to be behind schedule with growth. does anyone on here have any experience with budmaster led? I was told to keep the light at the top of the tent but due to growth i'm wondering if I need them lower? anyone have any advice on this? i heard that they start to flower around three weeks so i'm worried now because mine still look like seedlings at over 2 weeks since popping up. pics were taken around day 14 since first seed pooped up

:woohoo: Another grower enticed by the beauty and promise of the DDA. :slide:

:welcome: to one of the happiest community of growers out there marshall. They look perfectly fine. They're growing roots beneath them, and it drives every one of us nuts at how long they can take to explode, but I assure you, explode they will.

Good leaf structure and color and beautiful stems. You're right where you need to be at 14 days. Catch your breath. They're gonna surprise you. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thanks rifleman. It's my first ever grow so total newbie. Yes had me worried also. My minds been put to rest for now though. Thanks again for the reply's

I was a total newbie too. Still am at times because I want to remain teachable. Here's just a little background on my DD which took forever to get started. She finished well. I have one nug left. It's not nearly as good as it was when it was fresh and had some moisture but so worth growing her.

Really small Dark Devil beginnings

Near the finish

Thanks Jim. Your DD grow looks awesome. I'll be a very happy man if mine come out anything like your's and others on here i've seen. Absolutely stunning looking strain. Can't wait to try it now lol. One more thing guys ... how long did you let them go before adding nutrients?. I am currently using only water ph'd between 5.6-5.8
I was told around 3 weeks, is this right?

I was running different nutes back then but I'm fairly certain I would have started around week 3 or 4. I also ran those nutes 1/2 strength. Much of it depends on what soil. A couple of your shots appear as if they could use a little N to green em up a bit. I'm just not familiar enough with coco but I'd expect it wouldn't have any nutrients.

GL with it. :thumb:

Ok for some reason I'm having trouble with these tiny little DD seeds!!! They are very delicate I had 2 sprouted and the shells fell off but the skin casing was still on them and of course my big fat fingers ripped the whole top off of the 1 and the othe I snapped the tap root when pulling the skin off!!! So I guess just leave them alone let nature take its course then.Live-Love-Learn

Give them time. You have enough seeds to try again. I've done that with a seedling, and it never feels good. :laughtwo: The problem starts with burying them just a little more shallow than they needed, which meant they didn't have to fight their way up out of the dirt. It's this fight to get to the surface that rubs that casing off.

When this happens I do a special type of surgery, using two toothpicks and some water. Begin by dripping a couple drops of water onto the seedling and let it sit for a couple minutes to hydrate the casing a bit more. Then I begin the delicate coaxing the casing off the colydons. Using toothpicks keeps the fingers from snapping the heads off.

Not to worry. We'll see to it that you get there. We've all been frustrated with germination. It's important to avoid second guessing yourself and starting to question your ability to germinate. This is merely a glitch. Try again. :hugs:

Mine are at day 12 and look the same as yours marshal, glad to see I'm not the only need who thought things where not going well and to hear they should be ok. I'm also in coco and under led.

Hi Folks,

This is an awesome thread! Pardon me if I am restating a question already posed earlier in the thread, I could not wade through it all. . .

I have plans ( and am super-stoked, SUE!) to grow the DDA outdooors(!) this summer with a harvest date of July 1. I have the ability and room to put them all in the ground under full sun. I can also put them in large pots. My idea is to grow them as big (ginormous) as possible under the sun.

I have read the Automatic plants can react and potentially grow better with fewer transplants (maybe only one from the original seedling pot transplanted to the ground) or from being grown in their final resting place (a large pot or the earth). Topping is also something I wonder about. I also wonder about pots vs. the ground.

I think that timing will be a huge piece of the process. I plan of sprouting them on April 15.

Interesting plan, and oh, so exciting. :slide: Yes, autos grow best if you avoid transplanting. What flashed through my mind was the idea of starting them in one gallon fabric pots and then dropping those right into the final hole in the ground, pot and all, letting the roots grow through. You might have better luck with timing like that, since you could more easily hold them back if weather turned on you suddenly. They won't get root bound in the fabric pots the way they will in plastic.

I've had success with topping my autos, but then I've had equal success with untopped ones. Done correctly - growing, not topping :laughtwo: - topping should increase your yeild. arteekay and Jay topped all of their autos at around day 12-14 and typically pulled six ounces per.

I'd suggest you consider topping once, when the plants are very young.

:welcome: Froctor D. :laughtwo: Did you catch your breath? Lol! They can be a little ........ I'll go with stressful, until you go through a grow or two. Suddenly they burst into bloom and start taking off. I have at least one moment every grow when I think "no way will she have enough time" to find myself stunned at harvest.

Then they're so beautiful, smell so enticing, taste so good, and get you so blasted you can't wait to get another seed in the ground. Hahaha!

Welcome to the family you didn't realize you had. :hugs:  If there's anything we can do to help you settle into our little slice of virtual paradise you have only to ask. Post some pictures. We love pictures. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Hi,

Thanks for the advice,

Wow, topping day 12? 6 oz each? WOW! We will see. I'll look into the fabric pots...

If I went with the pots, what final size might you recommend?
